    Looks like a nice day. Glad to hear back is a bit better.
    No riding today as it's been raining.
    Yesterday just shy of 38 miles, and Tuesday 34 miles, so good couple days. Tomorrow weather looking promising so hope to get out for a bit.

    Before I actually owned a hub motor, I thought about greasing the hub motor, but then I met a guy with an add motor 20-in tire trike. It was two or three years old, with about 6,000 mi on it, was his only form of transportation, and it would be out in the rain and snow all year round in New Hampshire. Needless to say I was impressed, he told me to never open the motor. I'm on the fence,

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  Před 14 dny +2

      Yeah, at this point if it mine dies tomorrow I would say I got great miles out of it with over 14k. I think my motors are a little louder than my Jumbo, but it is hard to say as they have different tires. I am leaning towards just opening when they give me a problem as it is a pretty good test to how long they will last without greasing. But every 1,000 miles I think is overkill either way LOL

      I kind of wish I had removed the poor quality chinese grease that was in my motors when it was new with top quality grease. Maybe next motor or ebike 👍

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  Před 13 dny

      It probably depends on the manufacturer, with over 14k miles on mine it has held up well : )

      Thank you, 3 steps forward and 2 back but hopefully in the right direction.
      E-bycco, funny you should mention. I have been limiting my riding because of my back to 50 miles or less, however I have a video that should drop this weekend. I changed the crankset, and wow it really makes a difference. Because of the way this is made, you can pretty much put any size crank on it and I went big LOL Best 1/2 hour conversion ever. Once my back gets a little better I will be doing some more videos. So stay tuned : )

    I'm disabled because of my back and my knees are bad from a car crash, I'm riding my second ebike and this one I built from scratch all new but it's been hard as we have had about 5 dry days in 6 months but the weather has broke and it feels like summer and I can't keep off it. Tops at 46mph and I love it

    I know what back pain is like, glad to hear you’re feeeling better…
    I do have a qq for you, I want to buy the Philodo H8 but am concerned it may be too big.
    I’m 5 foot 8 with a 30 inch inseam, how tall are you are what is your inseam ?
    May have to go with the H7, but really want the H8.
    Love your videos, keep it up.

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  Před 11 dny

      Thank you.
      I am 5 foot 8 too, but my inseam is a little shorter at 29. I thought the H7 was the same bike without the front motor, but I could be wrong. I ride my H8 like a horse. I put my left foot on the pedal and swing over. The only issue I have is that if I am stopped already, I can not get off the bike. I have to start up then swing over before I stop. The Jumbo stand over is an inch shorter I think and I still have to do the same. It is probably more about my back and hip issues than my height. They used to advertise 5 foot 2 could ride this, and I think that would be hard. But I am your size and have gone over 14k miles, so you should be able to ride it. Hope that helps : )

    • @ScottKnaepen
      @ScottKnaepen Před 11 dny

      @@papablueshirt thank you so much for the reply. I am excited again. Now I need to decide between the H8 and the Jumbo, just watched your ‘10 wishes’ video and now am torn as it seems like the Jumbo gave you everything the H8 didn’t have. If I asked real nice, would you give me your pros and cons for each ? I also have a little concern over the weight of the bikes (100 lbs ish). Is that much of an issue as you seem to be in good shape and about the same age as me - 65.
      Thanks Papa Blue Shirt, I appreciate you.

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  Před 11 dny

      No problem, I love to talk about them. I would appreciate which ever one you decide on if you would use my link that would really help my channel. It is not much, but It always makes my day when I get a sale : )
      The Jumbo, the stand over height is less. Since that was a concern of yours I would say that the Jumbo would be better for that. The H8 I put my suspension seat post all the way down, with the Jumbo it can stay up about 1 1/2 inches, so I don't have to be as careful when I stop if you know what I mean. The on/off button for the AWD is something you do not realize you miss until you get it. I love that on the Jumbo. Range for one battery is about the same as is top speed. The Jumbo is more peppy, but it may be because my H8 has so many miles the motors are getting a little tired. The Jumbo was kind of a wish list I had for the H8. But I think the deciding factor is if you want the dual battery or not. I put a dual battery on my H8, but being on the back it is not as well balanced as the Jumbo. The Jumbo both batteries are in the middle, so it handles better. So I would say if you plan on riding 30-35 miles a day, the H8 will be fine on windy days you may have some range anxiety. I like to ride 50 miles a day and not worry about the battery, so I really like the dual batteries. The Jumbo is full suspension which is really nice. With my suspension seat post the H8 rides nice, but when I put it on my Jumbo it is a better ride especially for those big pot holes.
      As far as the weight, it is not an issue. The only time I realize how heavy they are is when I load in my car or try to ride without power. Both I try to avoid as much as possible.
      So In my mind the deciding factor is if you need the dual batteries or not. The other things are nice, but for me that would be the deciding factor. And take it from someone who loves to ride, you can never have too much battery LOL
      Hope that helps, if I think of anything else I will let you know. If you have any more questions I will be happy to help. : )

    • @ScottKnaepen
      @ScottKnaepen Před 10 dny

      @@papablueshirt thanks much for all the info… I like the looks of the H8 and the functions of the Jumbo but currently the Jumbo is not in stock, and the H8 is about $1000 cheaper, I think… so maybe the H8 after all as 30-35 miles per ride sounds right, mine would be at a generally slower pace in the suburbs and trails. Do you have a link to the stuff you upgraded on your H8 ? Which suspension seat post and exactly what gears (flywheel?) did you get so that you could pedal at higher speeds, and any other tricked out parts I may have missed would be greatly appreciated as I love learning from you. I too feel like a kid again when riding my bike. Never owned and e-bike but can’t wait to try. Gotta go watch more of your videos ( I just found them 2 days ago )
      Thank you

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  Před 10 dny

      Sold out, wow I must be doing something right LOL
      Yeah, the dual battery is really the deciding factor as that is what makes the Jumbo so much more than the H8. I am hoping the Jumbo will last as well as the H8, but you never know. My H8 has the miles, so it has proven itself already. And if you do not need the extra battery, than it is a very solid choice.
      At the bottom of this message is the link to my Amazon storefront where I have all my Philodo gear listed. You can check them out, if you have further questions about anything I am here and will help all I can. You will enjoy the H8 as it is a blast.

    Look up Iowa ragbrai. I was thinking about doing that but like I'm 300 plus pounds and out of shape. Do you think I'd be good if I bought a yeti power bank to like recharge my battery? Or would that be too heavy to carry with me? I've got a philodo h8 and a KBO ranger and I'm trying to get one of my buddies to maybe do it with me

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  Před 14 dny

      I think it would be pretty hard to carry along a power bank big enough to recharge as it takes quite a lot. Do they allow ebikes?, I could not find anything on their website. I think the best option would be to plan for hotel stays and just bring an extra battery and charger, but that would be expensive and maybe not always possible. It would really be the pits to be in the middle of nowhere and battery dead and 95 degrees, yikes.

    I just hit 3000 miles on my dual motor ebike and greased both motors the other day. What a difference it made in the sound under acceleration and smoothness. I used lucas extra heavy duty marine grease. I'll check them after 5000 miles to see how this grease holds up.

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  Před 13 dny

      Cool, yeah I think my motors have gotten a little louder after all these miles. I want to do mine, but was unsure about what type of grease as there is so much conflicting info. They say it is pretty easy to do.

    I have a question. Have you ever seen a E-Bile battery go complete empty? I mean zero volts!!

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  Před 14 dny +1

      The BMS will not let them go completely dead, if they do they are really hard to get going again. That being said, my Ecotric would just die at 2 bars. Left me walking many times. The BMS in the Philodo's are much better. They just slowly take your power away until you are doing all the work, but the battery will still have juice.
