Like I'm personally a massive fan of songs like Israel 2016 and Cyprus 2015, both of which were really low in televote and (kinda) saved by Jury. I know people see this video as proof that juries are needed but honestly, the only thing I see is that the juries need to be from a more diverse background. It's obvious that all the songs that they saved fit into a norm (either pop or a ballad) and they kill any cultural entries or niche genres. For an event that prides itself in celebrating diversity, it's pretty ironic that anything that tries to be different gets punished. Obviously, we need juries but they should be more in number & at least have some knowledge in other genres of music so that they can evaluate them properly.

This year for example Sweden didn't get more votes from their neighbours than from others (in terms of jury).

    This video is the perfect proof why the jury is needed. The vast majority of these are amazing songs that are massively underrated by the televote. In comparison the songs that have done much better in the televote here often aren't good at all, there's only a few cases where a genuinely good song gets overlooked by the jury. Most of the time I absolutely agree with the juries more than the televote, which is why I think a combo of the two is ideal rather than just having one or the other. I agree that having only a jury would be boring though since part of the fun is having audiences in different countries participate, but removing the jury would be a big mistake. I think some people forget how messy the results of ESC were when there was only televoting.

    • @bertbrezel8605
      @bertbrezel8605 Před 2 lety +5

      Think the same, the jury keeps the quality high and thanks to the tele voters the music is able to evolve 'cause they push the different things, sometimes. I also like it to be able to vote, to help the songs I like, the televote is also an other way to put the population of Europe a bit closer to each other as usual. I like the current mixture of it!

      @bertbrezel8605 Před 2 lety +4

      @@ok..9382 Not always, but both sides don't 'cause they're all humans, at least.
      A jury member from Germany this year (Consi) told in a video of the official Germany Eurovision channel in which categories they have to rate a song, some of them are staging quality (which could explain Sweden' s victory in 2015, Italy was amazing, too, but the Sweden ones was more touchable) and singing quality, so countries can't "just make a great or weird show" to win 'cause it's still a song contest.
      We need both part of votes, the top of the tele voter favourites (Italy, Ukraine, Finland and France) were at least in the top ten this year (France was also a jury favourite, but still). Bulgaria would be 18th or so, not 11th, even with her amazing voice.
      Both sides mess up, sometimes, so it's good that the one side is as strong as the other.
      So I appreciate the actual mixture of both. You have to win at least voters from both side (a few, at least), to win the whole contest.

      Yeap, due to voting system: judges and televoting place was summed up and transformed to points (for example, 1st place from jury and 8th place by tele is 9 pts). And it’s happened for every country and then they are sorted in descending order. Country which scored minimum points got 12 pts, 2nd minimum result 10 pts and so one. Hence, if jury or televiewers put country in 21-26th place there are was no chance to got any Eurovision points from this country. That’s happened with Austrian song. They got almost in every country 19-27 places by televoting and although the jury put them in high places in total points came out to zero.
