The most famous non-qualifier is Slovakia's Horehronie in ESC 2010. That song was damn good enough to reach Top 5. It's probably one reason why Slovakia withdrew from the competition altogether.

It’ll be interesting to see if Israel qualifies. Was it any other country’s song it would be a contender for the win, alas, the year is more political than typically. A have a feeling that either people will not vote it because of everything going on, or it will receive a LOT of votes - because the people who are against Israel in this year’s contest are boycotting it completely and thus not voting.

I am Greek and I fully agree with you that my country will not be in the top 5 of semifinal 2. I can't imagine us getting a higher place than Norway, Israel and even Armenia in a televote-only semifinal (and with that running order). Netherlands & Switzerland are the locked top 2 of course.
