When Practice Pays Off In Tournaments

  • This round win from the Foam Pro Tour 2019 got us 2 points instead of 1 due to Randal remembering something that happened during practice and paid off for us. Just because it's nerf doesn't mean it isn't a tournament and you can't prep for it.

    I honestly love the "I've prepared for this" moment. I'd love to see some prep videos personally I'd be interested in how you'd get ready for something like a big HvZ or just a big event in general.

      It was cool to see that random scenario play out for sure, and thanks for the idea!

    This is great! We introduced some fitness drills and playbook sessions. It was weird at first but they grew to like it especially the playbook sessions - where we’d play a game type and allow players or squad leaders to run a strategy then discuss on how both teams can benefit with both defense and offense.

    I'd love more videos on FPT. Maybe even a video walkthrough of rules would be helpful. Sometimes reading rules doesn't click u til someone sees what the rule is talking about.

      Rules videos are definitely on the list, and was planning to film them then the pandemic hit so they had to be postponed, but they are planned!

    The more practice you invest in, the more prepared you are for the many scenarios you will actually face when a competition date arrives, but also you lift the whole team's knowledge base of what to do when certain events transpire that you each can optimize your reflexes and reactions and overall group performance / outcome.

    I don’t do much with the hobby anymore but competitive nerf is really interesting, and your passion for it makes this stuff really fun to watch

    I'm not an FPT player but I do attend the occasional nerf war and HvZ event. I practice my marksmanship and individual tactics almost daily when the weather allows, and whe it doesnt I practice mag changes indoors. My yard allows me to take shots of up to125 feet. I can perform a standard reload in 3 seconds, a tactical reload in 2 seconds, and an emergency/fast reload in less than 1 second.

    I actually had this exact moment with a showdown during ADLs 3v3. Had the advantage on the flag (like literally could have run downfield and scored) but instead focused on a jam I had from the TC during the tag. Watched the drone footage again and am gutted every time.
    Cheers to tormenting soon 😎

      At least the takeaway from that is that you'll likely never miss an opportunity like that again, and that's the great thing about competition, likely always another one in the future. Definitely looking forward to getting to compete against you and the rest of Paradox!

      Definitely....what I’d give to play anything at this point! We were very interested in coming for Rag actually but we ll keep that card handy. It ll be great to catch up as well.

    You know, looking at myself in this replay footage, I can totally see that the flag could have been an out-of-sight-out-of-mind thing too. Have you given some thought as to how the game might change if we changed the geometry of the flag, maybe giving it some 3d vertical visibility?

    • @Jangular
      @Jangular  Před 3 lety

      That would be an interesting thing, and bring it even closer to SpeedQB which it's based off of, also would likely turn the flag location into a piece of cover as well, unless you mean like making it an actual flag on a pole that could be grabbed? Either way Ion Rush isn't my rule set so it's not something I can make direct changes to.

    • @NightFury-jd8ce
      @NightFury-jd8ce Před 3 lety

      You could make it 3-D using just pool noodle pieces cut down and glued together just so it was still easy to grab and hang onto.

    Hey there J-dude.... love your work :). I was super surprised on facebook when under the suggested friends list there was someone, with your photo. I don't know if it is your private facebook account, or just someone trying to be you. I would think you are a bit private, so I hope no-one is trying to use you to catfish, otherwise the alternative is facebook is just trying to link you up with every nerf fan on the planet

    Perhaps one day rework to governing rules of Foam Pro Tag to include adaptations that will enable the inclusion of players with disabilities, which will not include: hearing, vision, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral disabilities and impairments. Regulations that level the playing field so both able bodied players and players with disabilities can tag together and each other. Much like the legal double bounce max in wheelchair tennis or a dribble per every second touch on the wheelchair's push rims in wheelchair basketball before a traveling violation is called. Just some thoughts, 'cause I fling foam while using a manually powered sports wheelchair...Yosh.

    What blasters are folks using at these competitions? I know FPS is capped at 250, but is everyone tuned to 250 exactly or a range?

    • @Jangular
      @Jangular  Před 3 lety +1

      Common blasters to see are Talon Claws/Caliburns for springers and a variety of flywheels depending on preference. No one on our team was hitting 250, I was under 200 fps with my blaster, but with the position I played I didn't need the highest fps.
