I am fitting mine in my workshop tomorrow so seeing your video today is very fortuitous. As well as a new battery I have also bought a CTEK battery maintenance unit to keep the battery up to charge and a Carbon Monoxide alarm just to be on the safe side
I have that exact same unit and have been using it to heat my camper for the last 2 years with no problems. (knock on wood) The one I have is the 8 KW unit. the number you put out, "2 what ever that is", is the frequency the pump works at. I keep mine at 1.4 the lowest setting possible and it heats me out of my camper when the temp is in the 50's F. Amazon has the heater in stock as of 11/22.
Your heater installation needs to be lifted of the floor so the exhaust runs downhill. If you get any nonstarts it will fill the exhaust full of diesel. You also needed to use the controls to prime the diesel before initial startup.
Was doubting if my 5kW heater would be strong enough to heat my garage (roughly 18m2), but seeing you heat that huge space with the same heater I'm starting to feel more confident ;-)

In short until now I found out it should have a max 1m (3ft) fuel line and the pump should be in a 30-45 degree angle, flow direction facing up. Mine has a separate tank (15L) as I want to mix in waste oil in a 2:1 ratio (diesel/oil).
I put one in my workshop about a month ago and it gets the place nice and warm - quite noisy though but better warm than be able to hear the radio. My workshop is much smaller than yours. I used some Hawk White plumbing sealant on my joints.
Hi Tony, yes but it does a damn fine, 30 mins of full power then I drop it to min for a bit, depends on the outside temp. I always end up warm though. 👍

I used one of these for the first time last weekend. The fuel pump did not "click", it resonated with the metal case and made a sound like an East German Stasi agent knocking on your door at two a.m. to take you downtown to "answer a few questions". I have to get in there and try to quiet it down. It is almost unusable as is. It works like a champ making heat, though.

Just discovered your channel. Great video on the heater. Your video was suggested by youtube since i've watched many videos about this very heater. I've learned that the power setting of the heater is measured by hz. In other words, power setting 2hz would have the fuel pump to pump twice each second. You can hear the pump clicking (pumping) in the background. I believe it can go upto 5.4hz. On another video, they tested and said it would work around 11 hours on a full tank of fuel at 5.4hz power. Incredible little heater, enjoy.
Hi Stuart, I tried two PSU's, one 10 amp, lasted a couple of months, one 20 amp, lasted about 9 months. Battery so far about 12 months. Maybe they we're two cheap??
If mains power fails, the heater will experience sudden shutoff rather than phased cool down as it is designed to do to avoid failure. A battery or UPS is better to prolong its life, I think.
good informative video, i was wondering! a lot of heat still goes out the exhaust, what if you installed a 2 or 3 inch diameter verticle flue! with a reducer at the bottom, as the exhaust gases enter the larger pipe, the will slow down and transfer the heat to the pipe, which then radiates into the room.. hope that made sense, and might be quiter outside, exiting a larger pipe..

Hi Blackdog, yes you could, but you would have to site it in a waterproof enclosure, and yes the battery could be charged by solar. On the downside you would not recalim heat from the exhaust. 👍
We all want to keep warm, especially in the current financial crisis, but a carbon monoxide detector is crucial when doing a DIY fitment of a Chinese diesel heater. It can be seen that a lot of mistakes can be made when fitting these heaters, but don't forget carbon monoxide is a silent killer and many folks have become its victim. You can get a decent one at Screw fix for about £20, it could save your life.
The exhaust is not connected properly. The heater needs to be raised and moved next to the hole in the wall using only one exhaust hose. The exhaust hose should always angle down & never have a spot where fuel can pool.
Perhaps add some comments on how hot the heat is coming out, as well as hiw ling it takes to heat your shop.Also some comments on how much fuel it uses over a period of time, would be helpful for viewers.
I'm about to have my single garage converted into a fully insulated workshop, so I am planning to buy one of these heaters. But I'm concerned about running the exhaust through the wall as, without adequate protection, it will melt the insulation. As you are working in a combustible building, cold you tell me how you dealt with this problem, please?
Hi Clive, yes I am, I've piped mine through 18mm ply, rockwall insulation and then through loglap / Cedar Shingle. In both cases I've used ordinary kitchen tin foil wrapped around the pipe and scrunched in the hole. Worked a treat for nearly 5 yrs. 👍

Bought this very unit, and it leaked diesel from the inlet on the body itself (not underneath) but directly where it gets injected in. Currently waiting for a replacement. Can concur the jubilee clips are useless, and also observed there were none on the fuel line, not sure it's really needed? This model also lacks a muffler and from the little demo is quite loud.
Hi Lee, sorry to hear you got one of the few faulty units that 've heard about. Its a shame a few parts of the unit / build let it down but for the money I still think its worth while with a few mods. I can confirm the muffler makes a lot of difference, mine is almost silent with the muffler on. Hope you get your replacement soon. 👍
How come in a shop setting like this nobody ever runs the outlet pipe into a drum or barrel before the wall to catch all the heat you can lots of wasted btu going out the wall
Hi Kennyo, I tried to do something similar with an extended exhaust pipe but it caused problems. I wondered if I extended the pipe size to maybe 50mm?? maybe it would work. My idea was to run a pipe along one wall and then out at the other end. 👍

@@GTWoodshop ahhhhh it's to cold to knob about with that, just take out the fuse and wire in a bit of un insulated cable! added warmth and light :) also... don't do that. sometimes there is too much warmth and light. plus the wife may moan abit when you set light to the ranch.

Just a recommendation, land a 20amp dc power supply from Amazon. They are inexpensive and you can adjust the voltage a bit. Power it with your ac outlet on the wall and call it done. Just a thought. Looking at doing one of the 5kw heaters for my garage and this is how I will power mine, I have a handful of the power supplies sitting around from other projects.

I've had a Diesel Heater running off a battery for more than 2yrs without issue. I feel safer with the battery. I'm planning on install a solar panel to charge the battery form as well. Hi Crouton, thank you. My Shop is 10mtr x 5mtrs, I turn the heater on first thing to around 4 - 4.5hz for around 30mins. That takes the chill off enough so I can start work. If its a really cold day I'll leave it on the minimum for a while, Sometimes I need to give it around boost in the afternoon but a lot of the time the machines help maintain the temp. 👍

I have a 5th wheel RV I'm living in full time that is just over 400 square feet, which, if I'm doing my math correctly, is almost 13 square meters less than your shop. I was just curious how adequate this unit might be. My thought was to set one of these up outside and pipe the air into the RV with insulated duct, therefore eliminating the noise and carbon monoxide concerns. I'm in an off grid location, and while diesel is more expensive than propane here, the electricity required to power my furnace is more than this unit draws. I could then alternate between propane during the day (when the sun is out and producing more power than my batteries need), and this unit at night with less draw on the batteries and dry heat. I can also use a wall mounted propane heater that doesn't require any electricity, but then I'd have to deal with condensation issues. I may end up doing all three, just to have options and redundancy in case one system goes down. Anyway, thank you again for your reply! I've also watched your modifications/improvements video... Great video. I see the exhaust went out of the workshop through the wall. Is the wall wooden, if so how did you protect the wooden wall from the exhaust heat.
Hi Michael, thank you. Yes it is a wooden wall, so I drilled the hole about 50mm larger than the exhaust and used 'Tin Foil as a gap filler and insulator, wrapped around the pipe multiple times along with scrunched up pieces to fill it up.

Hi Gareth, I have heard lots of people say you must feed the burner with Air from out so it has plenty of Oxygene to burn. I haven't done that, both Air intakes are inside the Shed. I have no issues running it at all, so far. Very pleased with it.
@@GTWoodshop I think the other reason for having inlet outside is that when it's inside it will cause a small vacuum sucking cold air into the building. I think the effect would be minor but on a building that's not air tight you might notice a draft
HI Neil, if you watch the 2nd vid you'll see I've moved the heater and mounted it on a bracket on the wall, with the Air intake pipe pointing to the left side of the heater just taking air in from inside the workshop. As its such a big space I'm not worried about Oxygen levels. If it was in a much smaller space or in a van for example I would have routed it outside. 👍

Full stop. Is it just me? Or is the price of electricity actually higher than the cost of fossil fuels? Is this really happening now in 2022? Did everyone forget that electricity was supposed to be cheap and fossil fuels or the ones are supposed to be expensive relatively speaking to gasoline diesel propane or any other hydrocarbon fuels? How the heck did we get here?!
The diesel pump should be ran at a 45° angle with the input lower than the output there's a reason for this it keeps you from burning up all the diesel faster. Trust me it will work. Also that exhaust going through that drywall right there is a no-no that shit gets up to about 275 300°you better make that hole bigger and you better put fireproof insulation all around that damn thing. Just start thinking smarter

Isn't that exaust hose a little bit too close to installation wires? It surely gets hot...
I would raise the unit above the exhaust exit otherwise you may get a build up of condensation in the exhaust pipe.
The muffler is suppose to be the lowest point in the exhaust. The way you have it is going to cause moisture error codes

You should run it off a 240v - 12v power supply. You can get a 30amp converter on Amazon for like £16.

If mains power fails, the heater will experience sudden shutoff rather than phased cool down as it is designed to do to avoid failure. A battery or UPS is better to prolong its life, I think.

good informative video, i was wondering! a lot of heat still goes out the exhaust, what if you installed a 2 or 3 inch diameter verticle flue! with a reducer at the bottom, as the exhaust gases enter the larger pipe, the will slow down and transfer the heat to the pipe, which then radiates into the room.. hope that made sense, and might be quiter outside, exiting a larger pipe..
Hi Alden, yes good point. I've been told someone even made a home water heater that the exhaust pipe went through. It is wasted energy though you're right. 👍

Hi Blackdog, yes you could, but you would have to site it in a waterproof enclosure, and yes the battery could be charged by solar. On the downside you would not recalim heat from the exhaust. 👍
We all want to keep warm, especially in the current financial crisis, but a carbon monoxide detector is crucial when doing a DIY fitment of a Chinese diesel heater. It can be seen that a lot of mistakes can be made when fitting these heaters, but don't forget carbon monoxide is a silent killer and many folks have become its victim. You can get a decent one at Screw fix for about £20, it could save your life.

these china heaters are great but dangerous for those who can't use it, you have to push it electronically so it doesn't smoke inside

The exhaust is not connected properly. The heater needs to be raised and moved next to the hole in the wall using only one exhaust hose. The exhaust hose should always angle down & never have a spot where fuel can pool.

I'm about to have my single garage converted into a fully insulated workshop, so I am planning to buy one of these heaters.
But I'm concerned about running the exhaust through the wall as, without adequate protection, it will melt the insulation.
As you are working in a combustible building, cold you tell me how you dealt with this problem, please?
Hi Clive, yes I am, I've piped mine through 18mm ply, rockwall insulation and then through loglap / Cedar Shingle. In both cases I've used ordinary kitchen tin foil wrapped around the pipe and scrunched in the hole. Worked a treat for nearly 5 yrs. 👍

Hi Hull, if you add extra foam on the pump mount to dampen the ticking noise then it's no more than 12" fan or blow heater would make. In fact once you're accustomed it's quite comforting. 👍

Hi Stirfry, I fired her again again a few weeks ago to take the chill off. There's a wonderful warming feeling just hearing it running in the background, and 30 mins later I'm turning it down. Works a treat, no maintenance. Yes indeed I would do it again. 👍

Bought this very unit, and it leaked diesel from the inlet on the body itself (not underneath) but directly where it gets injected in.
Currently waiting for a replacement.
Can concur the jubilee clips are useless, and also observed there were none on the fuel line, not sure it's really needed?
This model also lacks a muffler and from the little demo is quite loud.
Hi Lee, sorry to hear you got one of the few faulty units that 've heard about. Its a shame a few parts of the unit / build let it down but for the money I still think its worth while with a few mods. I can confirm the muffler makes a lot of difference, mine is almost silent with the muffler on. Hope you get your replacement soon. 👍

How come in a shop setting like this nobody ever runs the outlet pipe into a drum or barrel before the wall to catch all the heat you can lots of wasted btu going out the wall
Hi Kennyo, I tried to do something similar with an extended exhaust pipe but it caused problems. I wondered if I extended the pipe size to maybe 50mm?? maybe it would work. My idea was to run a pipe along one wall and then out at the other end. 👍

Do you put the exhaust straight through the brick or is that any tube or insulation that you need to wrap around it?
Always Insulate, I drilled a larger hole and ran the exhaust tube inside an outer metal tube.

Just a recommendation, land a 20amp dc power supply from Amazon. They are inexpensive and you can adjust the voltage a bit. Power it with your ac outlet on the wall and call it done. Just a thought.
Looking at doing one of the 5kw heaters for my garage and this is how I will power mine, I have a handful of the power supplies sitting around from other projects.

I've had a Diesel Heater running off a battery for more than 2yrs without issue. I feel safer with the battery. I'm planning on install a solar panel to charge the battery form as well. Hmmmm.......do I invest in yet another heater to take the chill off........not very impressed at the big 12 volt battery need.........I didn't see any reference to the amps for a 12 volt power supply as I prefer a 220 volt wall socket supply.......if it won't run on a 4 mp battery charger ....I'm outta here.

Hi Crouton, thank you. My Shop is 10mtr x 5mtrs, I turn the heater on first thing to around 4 - 4.5hz for around 30mins. That takes the chill off enough so I can start work. If its a really cold day I'll leave it on the minimum for a while, Sometimes I need to give it around boost in the afternoon but a lot of the time the machines help maintain the temp. 👍

I have a 5th wheel RV I'm living in full time that is just over 400 square feet, which, if I'm doing my math correctly, is almost 13 square meters less than your shop. I was just curious how adequate this unit might be. My thought was to set one of these up outside and pipe the air into the RV with insulated duct, therefore eliminating the noise and carbon monoxide concerns. I'm in an off grid location, and while diesel is more expensive than propane here, the electricity required to power my furnace is more than this unit draws. I could then alternate between propane during the day (when the sun is out and producing more power than my batteries need), and this unit at night with less draw on the batteries and dry heat. I can also use a wall mounted propane heater that doesn't require any electricity, but then I'd have to deal with condensation issues. I may end up doing all three, just to have options and redundancy in case one system goes down. Anyway, thank you again for your reply! I've also watched your modifications/improvements video... Hi Michael, thank you. Yes it is a wooden wall, so I drilled the hole about 50mm larger than the exhaust and used 'Tin Foil as a gap filler and insulator, wrapped around the pipe multiple times along with scrunched up pieces to fill it up.

Do you get any damp concerns heating the air from inside? I am considering a similar installation but have been told the air should be drawn from outside.
Hi Gareth, I have heard lots of people say you must feed the burner with Air from out so it has plenty of Oxygene to burn.
I haven't done that, both Air intakes are inside the Shed. I have no issues running it at all, so far. Very pleased with it.
@@GTWoodshop I think the other reason for having inlet outside is that when it's inside it will cause a small vacuum sucking cold air into the building. I think the effect would be minor but on a building that's not air tight you might notice a draft

HI Neil, if you watch the 2nd vid you'll see I've moved the heater and mounted it on a bracket on the wall, with the Air intake pipe pointing to the left side of the heater just taking air in from inside the workshop. As its such a big space I'm not worried about Oxygen levels. If it was in a much smaller space or in a van for example I would have routed it outside. 👍

The diesel pump should be ran at a 45° angle with the input lower than the output there's a reason for this it keeps you from burning up all the diesel faster. Trust me it will work. Also that exhaust going through that drywall right there is a no-no that shit gets up to about 275 300°you better make that hole bigger and you better put fireproof insulation all around that damn thing. Just start thinking smarter
