What a neat old kit.
Great kit and thanks for sharing it with us.
Matthew, you're not weird. Your comments about the milling marks tells me you're a deep thinker, respectful to others and appreciative of care, craftsmanship and pride in work and finished product.
Imagine... if there were more of us who appreciate, recognize and comment on such things.
No, not weird.... admirable.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. 😎🇨🇦
That is older than me!!! So it’s as old as rust…. LOL. Cool kit. Thank you for the look into a peace of models past. Take care guys and girls. Later.👍🇨🇦😸.
That is so cool, Matt! Such a cool model and car as well. Man, if I ever hit the lottery...!
A true time machine. Cool.
Wow! That kit is in mint!
👍🏻👍🏻
Nice video. You came into a great find. Thanks for sharing.
Wow that brings back memories -- my dad had an American hardtop that was that shade of mint green -- with a white top. Very cool indeed. Thank you.
Hi Matthew just love you guys its good to see a family builting together . if you can would you let other modelers know i am looking for others in my area Clarksville Tn . I would love to start a modelers club get togather . I am soo amazed that we dont have any Hobby shops to be able to get kits . Walmart only has 3 ft end caps all i have is Hobby Lobby togo too .
I enjoy watching your videos. The Johan kit nice to see how well it was taken care of.
Thanks!!
Really Coolkit!!! Gotta love the light green plastic. I'll be watching
What a nice gift to recieve. I have the original unbuilt 62 Rambler H/Top plus other Jo-Han kits. There one of my favorites. It's amazing how clean and flash free this kit is.
They build up nice. Some of the full Jo-Han kits had shallow interiors. Still cool kits on my opinion.
another great video.
I was born in 1952. Can’t believe I was 10 when this came out . Saw a lot of old models slip through my hands . Where did the time go ?
That is a awesome kit , good details . Very KOOOOOLLLLLLL>
Big Like . I don't have any kits , but I went thru my boxes of stuff and I have a empty JO-Han box , it is for a 62 hardtop Chrysler 300 in 1/25 scale , I saved it for the artwork on the box , the box is in ok condition .
Mike .
The cigar smoking Road Runner is Clay Smith Cam's Mr Speed. The seat belts looked like leather belts with buckles.
👍🏻👍🏻
Great looking kit, I have the convertible Dart.
👍🏻👍🏻
The box itself is worth having. Johan had a great way they packed their kits , the Chrysler Turbine is one of the best engineered packing job.
That slammer is a Chrysler Concord. It was cool back in the day when they were new
👍🏻👍🏻
Great video Matt, Johan kits are really cool, awesome kit review!
Nice Johan kit gift you got there Matt. Hope you find another one so you can build it.
This is one that I agree with you on. Because it is so rare now! Leave it unassembled. I would however bag those tires separately, to prevent them from the possibility that they Might damage the other plastic parts. The only Jo-Hahn model I have is a promo 1970 Ford Maverick. It is a curbside model, it was shipped to me fully assembled dealer promo, blue plastic. Purchased it in 1970. I do have 5 First Gen. '40 Ford Tudor sedan kits that I am in the process of building. One stock, the rest as '50s style Hot Rods. In addition to a recent purchase Street Rods series 1973 reissue of this kit. And 2 Ertl repops. I may put together a '50s car club diorama with these.
👍🏻👍🏻
@@modelcarvideos5829 Thanks for the thumbs up. Of the 5 first gen. '40 sedan kits I got, three were in the original boxes. The 5th is a junkyard model I got on eBay last month. Perhaps you saw it there. This was the one that had the dull gold color, starting to peel off showing the black plastic underneath the paint on the roof. This was the $11 one, it required some serious repairs. As that was needed, this one is being done as a '50s style Drag car. It is getting a Buick Nailhead engine that was left over from an '86 AMT Ertl '40 coupe kit I built in '86. The headlights and taillights are being filled in, this on is being done as a drag strip Only car. I will put the '39 grill back on it. As I have the three original release boxes and instruction sheets, would you like me to send you one of them, along with one of the instruction sheets? This would be just the empty box, and assembly instructions
A secret hotel room fulla model kits 😆
I have a Jo-Han1963 Rambler American kit in my stash. Upgrades for 63 were the addition of an opening hood, an engine, a firewall, a radiator, and changing the tires to narrow whitewalls. The custom parts are there, and the decal sheet was changed. The price was increased to $1.49.
I built the Studebaker Lark convertable which is very similar to the Rambler. Mine was a much new version from maybe the 70s or 80s. I sure wish Jo-Han was still around. Even for simple kits, the subjects were always unique!
Neat!!! 😎
ialso built the studebaker kit nice kit yeah i agree iwish jo-han was around still nice kits
You mentioned the record player in this kit. I restored a 1956 Dodge for my father in law that had a record player in the glove box. It played 45's and 78's!
Great gift. The Jo-Han kits were great in detail but you never knew what color the kit would be molded in. They had great models that know one else would make.
That kit is a time capsule like myself I'll be 60 in a week LOL. I couldn't bring myself self to build that it's heritage. Enjoy it and pass it on.
Agree 100%
Detroit 12 Michigan. The 12 is a postal zone. This is the era BEFORE Zip codes were introduced. I lived in Duluth 4, Minnesota 1957 -1962. I think zip codes arrived sometime in late 1960s?
👍🏻👍🏻
The bird is Clay Smith. Clay was known for grinding cam shafts and was a top Indy Car mechanic. He was killed in an accident at the DuQuoin Mile in 1954.
Uh oh, you're changing my thinking. I recently picked up an original 1978 issue, Revell 1/48 scale P-40E Warhawk. It is in pristine condition and I can't bring myself to build it. I paid half of what it would cost me to replace it on eBay today.
I was -1 when that came out. Great conversation piece and absolutely a non-builder. I bought a collection of military models, mostly planes (~500) and most are from early sixties, but I am selling those to let some else enjoy them.
Very cool kit Matt. Thanks for showing it.
Cool kit and I would loved to been in that room with the Johan kits
👉Alvin is a buddy of mine. I met him years ago in the Texas Modeling Show circuit. We both own Sherline Mill & Lathe setups, in fact the plan is for him to come visit me in Houston & stay at my home for several days, handing down some of his 25 years of Machinist skill😎
ZenModeling
Yeah that Detroit 12 is a pre zip code as zip codes as we know them I believe started in 1966
Lol. The Slammers are 1998 Chrysler Concords I think I saw on the box.
Matt awesome model and great unboxing! You know that I'd build it! But like you said it's your model and you can do what you want! I've built the 63 rambler hardtop with engine that George gave me czcams.com/video/UeviGFmKaz8/video.html if I had that model I'd build it but not paint the body because that green is absolutely gorgeous and green is my favorite color!! My oldest Johan kits are 1959
A kibitzer is someone who jokes, or as the saying goes “oh your just pulling my leg “.
i was born in march of 1962 yeah i am a baby boomer
Thar car wouldn't do 300 hp if u pushed it off a cliff lol
Matt those things that look like a cross are actually a four bar spinners that you glue on hub caps. If you look real close at the top box art you can see it on the drivers side front tire. Your videos are awesome, they ring back many memories. I have been building models since I was 11 years old, yes I am a old dude74. This hobby has taught me patience and most all the love of accomplishment when finished. I haven’t been at my bench lately, been busy with doctor appointments for prostrate cancer. Start radiation therapy 5 December, for 8 weeks. I ma not be at my bench building, I still can enjoy through your videos and I Thank You for that. I am staying positive through this journey. If you like to see some of my builds I am on Instagram g_kimball. Thank you again.👍👍👊🤝
