I don’t understand why they must load it up so much. In our good old days, had a blanket, rope, a pot, some fuel and canned food and off we went (Zimbabwe)

I really wish Honda would come back out with a new CT90 and CT110 with an updated suspension , fuel injected engine and High / Low Range Gear Box . I'd buy one in a heart beat !!

Enjoyed the video I just want to say that there is a clutch on postie bike and it's a very clever bit of kit. It operates in 3 ways and if it's not adjusted correctly you either have really stiff gear changes or you can burn out the clutch.
    1. it's a centrifugal clutch and the more you rev the engine the more it bites.
    2. as an overrun device to give engine breaking. If the back wheel is turning faster than the engine there is a screw thread device that pushes the clutch plates together as the centrifugal device no longer engages.
    3. When you press the gear lever it first pushes the clutch plates apart and secondly changes gear the adjuster for this is in the domed engine cover on the RHS covered with a piece of rubber. From memory, you need a 14mm deep drop ring spanner & a flat blade screwdriver and about 1/2 a turn of free play. Test ride to fine tune. Sadly we've moved on to NBC110 and don't have any CT110's left.
I only mention this as the clutch is probably the weakest point and I've seen so many burnt out. It's an easy fix about 15-30 minutes 1 special tool and the clutch plates are a bit pricey.
All the best and thanks for the Trangia video a see you can now get a petrol, diesel etc. burner for them which I'll probably do soon.

Love your stuff Mark. I'm considering putting a 16 tooth front sprocket on mine, but most people seem to say that when you're loaded for adventure, you just can't accelerate. You reckon it'll still go alright? My bike's not modded or anything and does 93 downhill, so I'd be keen to see if I could break the 100 with a 16 tooth!

I don't want to get too technical but the height of the adventure bikes was the Honda CB 100. The extra low gearing meant you could go up those hills amazingly easily. I don't want to sound high brow but step throughs are a bit dodgy there.
I had many other bikes, some state of the art, but none were more fun than the Honda. Absolutely bullet proof. And what does it cost you? I rode mine on one trip up through the peaks of the great dividing range on roads that I knew absolutely nothing about. Got lost and went up roads steeper than these with corrugations like bloody canyons in the roads. Response? amazing. Just put it in first gear and it was so fucking light it would go anywhere. Through creeks up mountains over any terrain. Who fuckin cares how fast you are going if you are bullet proof and having fun.
By bullet proof I am talking about a concepts the idiots on KTMs will never understand. No, they do not break down due to electrical problems you hear so much about on KTMs. They just keep on going. There are never any questions to ask or answer. There will be a new KTM or Bulatco or Montessa next year. Who gives a fuck? They will only get there 10 minutes in front of you.
After going through the mountains I rode it up to Lismore and back to Sydney on the highway. It was a little lacking on the second half of the trip back. Why?
Shock horror. Into the high tech rebuild shop after arriving home and there was a hole on the piston the size of a 5 cent piece from a little too much ignition. O woe was me. Shock horror! The fuckin KTM guys would still be siting on the side of the road 300k's back contemplating a very expensive project. Mine? ?60.00 total cost of rebuild and back on the road for another 5 years until I sold it for a loss of about $50.00.
What is the most obvious difference between this and my other bikes and all the other hundreds I have known through friends? You just get on and ride. Will I give it an oil change before I go? No, who gives a shit? That takes 10 minutes.
I also took it on the Clubman rally (my high revving 2 stroke Suzuki decided to stop using one of its cylinders at the last moment) where I beat some poor bastard to the longest distance ridden under 250cc. He had ridden the same distance from Adelaide (me from Sydney) but was on the wizz bang CB 200 so they gave it to me.
My 12 mates were on big Ducatis, Suzukis etc but when we stopped twice on the way down I was amazed to find I was never more than 10 minutes behind them. And the great thing was that due to the ABS (anti braking system) on the front, the effort to stop suddenly always involved front wheel lock up and the back wheel fish tailing down the road in front of them while they were waiting for me. The grins were obvious from the others.
I have tried to explain this to many people over many years but no one is prepared to listen.

    • @tornadolighting
      @tornadolighting Před 6 lety +2

I'm listening and I agree entirely. I have four CT110's. Brought them all in to the UK in bits from the USA and totally rebuilt them back to stock perfect. They are the BEST bike of all time. I can take out mates, and even my daughters and I know that with no real biking experience we can all have a big laugh without coming to any harm (well, most of the time).
When you travel on a CT110 you feel the trip. Why would you want to cover ground at 140kph and have no time to absorb the experience.
You are also right about big bikes. I've ridden bikes in Morocco and I can tell you a big BMW GS once taken off tarmac in Africa is as useless as a chocolate tea pot in the desert. Drop it in the sand and you will never get it up again without help and within an hour you will be crying for you mamma and fallen out of love with you 20K nightmare machine.
I have ridden many big KTMs etc and they are all right in the right environment (deserts or on a track) but anything over 120kg in real dirt or desert is useless and no fun. The real purpouse of a bike is FUN so in the video it is odd one of the reviewere having said they were fun said he wouldnt buy one - why not ? Most bikes are bought by the ego of the riders not their common sense. I've been there with a shed full of Ducatis, VRF's, CRf's etc but now I have grown up and examined my motivations I realize the humble CT110s are by far my favourite.
The whole GS thing is a triumph of marketing over reality.
Anyone thinking about it - go out, get a Postie, ring its neck, take the piss, have a laugh and live to tell the tale... all for the price of a Chinese mountain bike.

@@claywebb8199 I get the impression there are lots of technical rules from Mark’s bike builds videos, and registration costs etc seem higher than ours in UK
I wondered if the trails are free of walkers, horse riders 4WDs etc, of if Mark just edits out those bits for artistic reasons?
The other postie bike guy who rode back to England has since become a bit of a celeb here.....I’ve met him at a couple of bike events (Nathan?)

    • @claywebb8199
      @claywebb8199 Před 4 lety

Mark Hazelgrove - yes Mark, in Australia you need a license to break wind in your own house!
Seriously over regulated in almost every single respect. As for these videos being free of people - well it’s such a huge country with a tiny population so everywhere out of town is basically wilderness/national park etc. Make no mistake though if any copper saw them riding like this they would get a ticket on the spot, no debate and rangers patrol national park tracks and issue fines too. In the UK they wouldn’t bother or at worst would give you a warning.

Been listening to Cyclecruza talking about how Dual Sport is where it's at. However the prices of dual sports look pretty steep (new and used) at first glance.
I remembered reading that the CT110 was designed with off road use in mind.
Doesn't look like these can do wheelies over branches and I didn't see you using the low range gearing on the hill (maybe this variant doesn't have it), but if a hobby can be fuelled by a thousand dollar purchase rather than a ten thousand dollar one then low income earners might be able to join in.

Mark, We had been riding with our fellow Bikers for Trump 2016 members, since July, on our 2008 Suzuki Burgman 400 but, have missed riding a motorcycle.
Virtually every other activist organization BFT member rides a Harley though, we do know one whom rides an Indian.
We showed Suzuki, via Face-Book that we have appeared in newspapers and television on our scooter and thought, if they bought us a Boulevard, we could help them sell motorcycles. They have yet to respond.
Anyway, thanks for doing the review of your 2009 Suzuki Boulevard C50. After a

Cutting down Trees 🌲🌲🌲🌲around are world from forests 🌳 to woodlands 🌳are releasing Carbon that the trees 🌲 have collect for years back into the Atmosphere and logging is cutting far quicker than planting around the world and adult trees 🌲 that take 45 years to grow that store more toxins and carbon than new planted trees does and If the logging continues to carry on then the weathers around are world will become a lot hotter and very aggressive storms will become life threatening for humans just because humans can’t stop eating massive amounts of meat 🥩 just because jobs and money are more important than life itself .
PLEASE SAY NO TO LOGGING and help protect the trees and the wildlife habitats that are so important to the world we live in and also PLEASE SAY NO TO BIOMASS ENERGY that creates even more carbon dioxide that companies that produce this tell there people and workers it’s safer when it’s not and it also takes up massive amounts of land just like the food for beef industry does .
Any company that’s harming an environment and destroying wildlife habitats like oil drilling - fossil fuels - fracking - biomass - farming - logging - illegal animal trading - elephants and rhinos killing for there horns and ivory etc would tell lies to keep there greedy money rolling in history has proven time after time that theses companies are destroying lands wildlife extinction and environmental loss
