I have added a piece of microfiber cloth to the bottom plate, folded 2-3 times to make it "softer", so I don't get the "box" around the cap from the heat. I'm going to try and add a soft small single layer to the top next. A bunch of people say to use a sponge on the bottom. Still working on getting rid of the seam/crinkle. I've also loosened up the pressure some. I'll post back if I get some good results.
I just got this hat press yesterday and fired it up today, excited to use it! With any new press out of the box, I find that you most always have to calibrate the heat platen to the temp read out. Did you all have to do this when this unit and if so, did you find the instructions how to do this? Mine is reading about 40 degrees hotter than the read out is showing. Otherwise, can't wait to start cranking out some hats!
So I'm looking at buying this hat press because it comes with 2 platens.. question is, do they have a different radius? I can't get an answer from anyone :| reason I ask is because I have some trucker hats that are pretty round and my current hat press squishes them and causes a type of wrinkle.. basically the platen needs more of a radius to conform to the hat.
We haven't had any issues with wrinkles.. But when we do materials that can wrinkle, we will iron or prepress the garment before applying the vinyl or sublimation paper..

Also where are you getting your patches? I just bought a test batch off of amazon, so far they've lasered nice but we'll see how they hold up.
