      She's trying to ride English but needs lessons badly. Toes are down heels are up legs dangling all over. Falls forward instead of sitting back with a straight back.
      In English riding you should have your shoulders elbows and heels all in one line.

    This video disturbs me. She had opportunities to walk her horse away but instead turned him around to face the horses again who now have lost interest in her horse. The added dramatic music is to enhance the viewers belief she ‘has to face down the danger’! Lady, you are the danger in your horse’s life!

As Rick says I feel for the beautiful horses they have it the hardest because people who know nothing about horsemanship want to look good. This makes me wonder how he would have behaved around those horses without her on him. He’s exhibiting stallion behavior, but at the same time looks very insecure to me. It’s awful to watch him being forced into this awkward position from a herd’s social point of view. That’s got to be super stressful for him and weird mixed messages to the other horses.

  • @avalongrooming

    She doesnt know jack about riding. What i have figured out about some people just because they can buy a horse doesn't mean they know how to ride. They go out and get a stallion and an Arabian at that, because they think they are cool. The pink hat and the tight reins, she's probably scared, or to inexperienced to know the what she is in. I also know that just because someone has learned to ride doesn't make them an expert.

    These people keep their horses as stallions so the necks are bigger and with tie down it makes the horse look real pretty with its bowed neck in show ring and they'll get ribbons for it,!! I kid you not this is the only reason they keep them as stallions. As for video I kinda would love the herds stallion to appear and see how fast she rides off.

      I forget it’s name, but there was a very famous Turnier horse in Europe who’s neck got permanently injured because of the tie down he was consistently subjected to.At some point during its “ career” sold to a famous rider and breeder in that circle who of course used the same method. A bit of an internal scandal ensued, but that was all. The industry closes ranks.

    This rider is so ignorant. My favorite horse, Danny, was a Arab stud. I rode him bitless for many years. He was a kind horse, but definitely had a mind of his own. But I knew his horse mind was sound. We partnered for years, successfully and joyfully. I would suggest this gal do several things. She needs to get on a colder horse. That horse is way to much for a novice rider. She needs a knowledgeable riding trainer. She needs to learn how to tack up correctly. She needs to learn to control her emotions. She needs to stop being so darn fearful. She needs to learn horse society behavior. And, yes, she needs to lose the pink hat. Lol.

    *
    Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they are wild horses. If they were wild I'd assume they'd be more nervous, distant, and/or territorial of a horse and rider. Not to mention the horse was most likely a stallion. Either way I think the girl just wasted her time staying there. God knows what she was tying to accomplish.

    Turn in the opposite direction. Don’t just stand there . Especially on a stallion. Take their mind away from that idea. Move forward and away. Never taunt a stallion . She could have been seriously hurt. The more a stallion is allowed to feed into this behavior and not given direction, allows time for the horse to do what he wants to do.

For example - one is riding happily about and suddenly there is this unexpected surprise of stray horses that come out of nowhere and they want to check the horse out on which I'm sitting....If they are not close up, I would turn and canter away from them, hoping they dont come after us. But what if they are to close? Should one yell at them, trying to put pressure on them with the riding whip? I moved into an area where a scenario like this could easily happen and it would be good for me to know before hand how to react if I get cought in a tight place like this.... • @jayATUK
      @jayATUK Před 3 lety

      @@mark-uh9yd
      First off, it's not true that you must use tie downs when you ride in an English saddle... what the heck. You will fall off if you're a bad, unbalanced or just inexperienced rider, yes. If she's inexperienced and unbalanced, which she appears to be, then she a) should be wearing a hard riding hat (at the very least) and b) get on a calmer horse.
      Now to the tie down (which is actually a running martingale in this video): When the horse carries his head in a neutral position, there should be a straight line from the horse's mouth to the rider's hands - not like on this horse, where the reins are always pulled down. This is incorrectly fitted, and very uncomfortable for the horse, as there is constant downward pressure on the lower jaw. This is also how a running martingale tries to force the horse to lower its head after lifting it, by putting painful pressure on the lower jaw from downwards rein pressure. But in this case, the horse has no chance of escaping it as it constantly pulls down. It's just irresponsible and no one should think this is fine and defend it and then go on to do the same to their own horse.
      If you need to use auxillary reins, chances are you need to get a better trainer or educate yourself better.
      If the horse constantly carries the head too high, maybe he has back pain - does he also stick out the tail? Is the rider too heavy? Is the saddle a poor fit? Is it muscle pain? A horse needs strong belly muscles to carry a rider properly - it'd be a good idea to start building up those muscles. Without a rider, the horse is more likely to go into a long, low frame - maybe the horse needs to be lunged for a while and not ridden to loosen up the back. But again - lunging does not require auxillary reins, despite popular belief.
      High head carriage could also stem from fear - the horse might be constantly looking out for dangers. In this case, you'd work on the mental side to calm the horse down and start to trust you more. This is often a long process that you mustn't rush.
      If the problem is that the horse rears frequently, again this is something you need to work on (ideally from the ground!), and not something you will "solve" by trying to make it impossible or very painful for your horse to rear. You will just cause more problems.

    That poor horse! She's hauling on his mouth and that damn martingale is so cruel. She should leave those wild horses alone, she's an accident waiting to happen and the horses get blamed. Always.

    Dang Rick, when I was a kid riding my gelding bareback to round up cattle no one told me I needed a pink hat. They also forgot to tell me I needed a bridle, big bit and a martingale. Why it's just blind luck that I and my horse didn't kill each other, (snark.) We had a blast taking off with just a halter and rope reins to take care of business.

    The horse is an Arabian or Arabian type but this woman, and I agree with you Rick, she is NOT using her head and is causing a serious problem. The horse is definitely acting upon instinct around the other horses. Instead of hanging around like she is doing, she needs to take the horse she’s riding slowly away from them, not towards them, but also if this horse she’s riding is being used to round up the others, clearly she is using the wrong horse for the job. If it’s a stallion, stallions can be unpredictable, and a gelding then should be used to round up the herd NOT stallions. I once rode a 4 year old Appaloosa stud colt and it gave me problems because of mares being near by, also it was testing me on how much I knew. It was intelligent and quickly picked up on my fears. I was a green rider at the time but thank God I knew enough to handle the situation well enough, and even though it was unnerving, I survived what could have become a serious accident, not only for me but also for the horse or others or anyone else near him. Later on after the scary ride was over, and I still think I did the wiser thing and walked him back to the main house on the ranch. Afternoon, the horse nudge me with his head on my back as if to say “I apologize, your okay”... I feel to this day he was saying he was sorry for what he did. The owners gave him the name Happy. He later was sold to another owner but I always wondered if anyone ever gelled him, because he was a bit mischievous in character.

    This is Arabian. Their necks tilt like that, when they’re excited. The girl on the other hand.. doesn’t know how to ride or lead a horse, led alone Arabians that have anxious temperaments. Horses are herd animals, they seek a leader. Here, the horse is trying to figure out wtf is happening.. with that bag with a pink hat on top of her.

    • @Cathy24601
      @Cathy24601 Před 3 lety +1

      Arabians do not really have anxious temperaments. They are intelligent horses and if they don’t get to use that intelligence then they channel their energy other ways. Kind of like a Border Collie. They need a owner who will invest energy in them.

    I remember as a kid I would question in my mind what some of my trainers were saying and telling me to do. I'm glad I watch these videos because a lot of the time I'll watch a video of someone doing something that a trainer would do and basically verifies for me that, I wasn't wrong in questioning what I was being told to do. I don't take lessons anymore because I see a lot of the same stuff over and over from a lot of trainers in ohio. Wish I had someone out here like you rick. Thanks for the vids :)
