    Some changes I would make on the combine would be:
    - Larger front tires (as you said)
    - Possible hatch at the top that opens via a button (similar to newer combines for the grain tank)
    - White, Silver or Black stripe going along the side (similar to Case IH harvesters)
    - Bring the cab slightly forward to eliminate that "flat" front
    - Rear Lights

      @veryaveragekyle311 Před 4 lety +7

      He could make a John Deere harvester but yea, I agree with everything you said. I think it would be difficult to have a grain tank in this game but yea. Also, for the interchangeable headers (front end) you could use it as a real combine and use it to farm a huge field

      At least one light on each side too, but that's mainly how i build more than traditional harvesters, but i think they sometimes have lights on the side that face outward.

    • @johndeere7245
      @johndeere7245 Před 4 lety +3

      Not sure how the harvester would react, but it looks like you could add sawblades inbetween the drill bits and be able to cut timber with the drills folded.

    • @DanielisAwesome52
      @DanielisAwesome52 Před 4 lety

      The mechanism between the drill arms and the body is too small as well, IRL its a huge thick metal connection that gives the front some depth. Maybe adding more bulk and the mechanism to lift and unstick the pistons might make that look better

    as someone from the wonderful state of kentucky, i can tell you 3 thing you need to make it look more like a combine:
    1) BIGGER WHEELS in the front
    2) the cab should stick out more.
    3) you need an auger. the pipe big pipe thing that hangs over-top, parallel to the combine.

      Part of the problem with multiple wheels is that the ground in scrap mechanic doesn't deform like real dirt, it's like driving uphill on a giant uneven smooth rock while trying to push into another rock to mine. So if you simply add wheels to the side of the existing wheels they don't increase your contact significantly with the ground unless its flat, and one wheel is fine on flat ground. Then trees and corn (especially corn get more and more obnoxious the wider your vehicle is.) To compensate for the immutable ground, you have to have a suspension system for each wheel which is going to further increase your footprint and lag.
      My solution to this problem was to use piston arms that grab a rock formation and pull my vehicle towards it or also pulls loose rocks towards my vehicle. It's a little finicky as everything with scrap mechanic, but I don't have as much problem with sliding wheels.

Seats, button, bearings and switch is only thing different you can use EDIT: you can use blocks but the body has 14 blocks then all of the other things are pistons EDIT2: you can use how many seats, button, switch and bearings

      it's a underlining issue of the games physic system for handling friction. if it was using actual friction physics we wouldn't be sliding around at all.
      also the hills in this game are farrrrrrr too steep, hills don't form like that in real life. so not only do you have a flawed physics simulation but also just poorly designed map tiles that are too steep.

    I love the rear steering personally, because most combines actually do steer in the back, similar to forklifts and some front loaders.
    Some suggestions:
    1. add lights to the rear and sides.
    2. Add a set of pistons to lift the entire front assembly slightly, and possibly a set to clear the mechanism (kinda like a brush to clear between the pipes)
    3. Move the cab slightly forward and to the right
    4. Add a small hatch to the top so you can access the refineries if necessary
    5. Add one of those pipe things that are on the top/side of irl combines, where the grain or whatever is pushed out into the trailer or whatever. Even if it's not actually functional in any way, it would help with the weird flat sides and stuff.

    I like to use the I-beams to help break up flat surfaces, also the long I-beam piece has a grate in the middle which can be used for some cool back lighting. Nice big window in the front for first person, I also like to doll up my cabs by putting the engines, controllers, seats, switches, buttons, lights, etc. with prop piping and wiring. Overall awesome build, just needs a new day to work on some cosmetic stuff to pull it all together!

    Idea for speeding up oil gathering: use bubble plastic to make a boat and thrusters to control it and have stacked pistons to push you up and down to submerge or raise a kind of tethered vessel in the end you should end up with a "mothership" boat and a submarine which can basically help you move faster through the water

  • @zarnox3071
    @zarnox3071 Před 4 lety +1

    You could probably put a vertical shield to help prevent rocks from getting caught on top of the pipes behind the drills. You should also put some blocks that limit how far the arms can bend downward, so that they are less likely to fold under.
    Also, if you are going to fight farmbots with that thing, you should definitely invest in some stronger materials. It would be a shame if a farmbot managed to break the refineries because of a lack of armour.

    Just to add some aesthetics you could add a discharge pipe to the side of your combine. Combines don't typically store harvested crops on board and have a long pipe that swings out from the side into a trailer... This would only be for looks, but it would help the boxy look a bit.

  • @FoamSquatch
    @FoamSquatch Před 4 lety

    Add a output pipe on the left side towards the top. Normal Combines use them to auger grain and corn into a wagon, it can essentially be aesthetic unless you can think of a use, but it will break up the blockiness.

    I'd try widening the front wheel base by about 5 blocks on either side, then adding a third axle in the back. That should prevent tilting over. Also you could fit a second line of drills on top of the block the pistons connect too. This would tilt forward and catch those bothersome bits that ride up.

Use concrete for base of vehicle and metal or wood for top & looks. Lower engine power for smoother control (it's a combine not a racer). Build cover for drills mechanism so rocks roll down on drill heads.

    Hi Kan, A couple sugestions....you can lay your refiners on their backs with chest on top. Also lay your gas tank on its side so the gauge is pointing up you can look in your cab while driving and see your gas level. Double up your tires I usally put my main pipe going down with a tee and put wheels on both sides. Also you can put 4 silo pieces together you find on the roof of Warehouses with metal between them so you can center your axle. Great fiction on those homemade wheels just do your front wheels looks really cool and lowers your center of gravity. Very stable.

    I have a similar miner and found a 6-wheel configuration made a massive improvement to handling
    - Front wheels steering only
    - Middle pair drive only
    - Rear wheels steering and drive
    - Wood 3 for weight reduction, it looks really good painted
    For your base wall, add a strip of concrete 2 to the outside and tote/hay bots wont be able to damage it at all, they don't even try.
    I don't use any other defenses and just let the bots run off on their own eventually when farming and never had an issue with it.
    wood 3 and metal 2 also work, anything with 6+ durability cant be broken by anything but big reds, but a single large gas canister will kill them

    Like someone else said, bring the cockpit forward slightly, but also 2 other things-
    1. The top of the cockpit is usually _lower_ than the top of the main body, so maybe you could lower it AND bring it forward.
    2. The main body section, mainly around the front wheels, goes too far forward here. On real ones, the main body of the combine is usually entirely behind the center of the front wheels, and then the cockpit just sits on the front of the main body, rather than being integrated into the main body as it appears here.
    Hope this helps

    kAN, as a few people have already stated, I think the fix to your "flat front" of the combine is to make the cab extend and hang over the drill head a little. I know it'll conflict with them being in the transport position, but a lot of combines have the cab jutted out over the header attaching point so it's a kind of instant reaction kind of thing. You turn when you feel you would need to; not try to sit and calculate or eyeball when it seems correct. It might be helpful to do both directions, IE bring the cab out forward a little and recess the attaching point of the drill heads to the combine back into the vehicle a little. Just an observation and suggestion.

    A couple of things you could do to make it look more like a real combine are
    1, remove some of the material a couple blocks below the cab
    2, add a straw dropper at the back which will make it look less like a truck
    3, an auger made out of the functional tubing that actually rotates out with a vacuum pump on the end to unload into chests (maybe another lorry trailer idea?)

    It might be good to have a side attachment with a blade that starts can be turned vertical or horizontal to make for easy tree clearing while mining.

    Mesh block would be good, and maybe add in a second or third colour to help break the box up so while it's still technically boxy, it wouldn't be as uniform.

    It is an actual Combine, combining the roles of harvesting and refining into one machine
    Combine refers to Reaper/Thresher combine. Combining the roles of Reaping (picking) and Threshing (removing kernels/seeds/beans)
    The first Combine was horse drawn and require a 30 horse hitch.

    for bigger wheels the easiest option is just using the Generator Coil Corner you get at the top of warehouses. they're quite heavy though, so I'm unsure how effective it is.
    Worst case scenario you can always use the 45 degree offset (+ and offset x) boot-wheel design, as boot has better grip than wheels and you don't need a shock absorber on each spoke. Or you can use sensors instead as they have the same amount of grip as a boot but are 1block in size xD

    You need a storage tank, the simplest one would be to cut out some of the concrete above the refineries and tilt it upwards at an angle, you should also maybe make the combine wider on the sides by extending the sides but shape it to look like chicken wings so that it's like a combine. You could also make these "wings" fold upwards so u can see inside. Finally you should make what's known as an auger with pipes which is basicly the tube that stickes out and hangs out the back a mile. To really help things you should make the combine slightly longer which would also make room for collectors for collecting component kits and circuit boards from bots.Finally you could try making tracks which would like slightly better than the wheels.(btw I live on a farm that raises animals in ireland so I've never seen a combine anywhere apart from shows but I watch farming simulator the whole time so I know what they look like)

    On your combine, there are these big box things next to the cabin you can probably get rid of those as they aren't on real combines and will make it seem less boxy also if you extend the back out a bit and taper it inwards that will also make it look more realistic

    If there are no bigger weels you can downsize the back tires (it would just for the look because bigger weels are better for funktionallity)
    And you should build a "cow catcher" (barrier on the front preventing stones from laying on the harvesting thing)

    not sure how well it would work, but you could try mimicing the front and putting it on the rear, then just change out the drills for saws. that way you can cut trees out the way while also getting stone.

  • @gaalidas4836

    Combines are definitely not made with aesthetics in mind. I'd so put flames down the sides if I were a fatmer.
    Either close up the area under the pipes, or set up another hinge point to lift the entire front part over the vehicle, garbage truck style.
    I imagine you could run something under the drill arms to provide a hard limit for their rotation so they can't get stuck. Whenever I have free rotating parts, I try to provide something for it to hit that would limit it.
