- Hey everyone back with more Scrap Mechanic Survival! Kosmo and I spent some time since the last episode getting more component kits and building an epic helicopter for exploring the map! Finally we'll be able to consume tons of fuel in style as we check out all the cool locations this survival world has to offer! @darealkosmo

It doesn’t hover well because it is an actual programmed feature that thrusters have slightly variable thrust in magnitude and direction over time.
It does hover pretty well most of the time though.
@@csar07. Being heavy and having multiple thrusters helps. The poor controllability might be a larger factor for this flyer

You could try turning the front into a turret so that the seat and the cannon move together so that the co-pilot could basically look down the sights while shooting.
Fliers with guns are very bad very unstable and provides kickback to the helicopter which will rotate it into the floor
That would make it very hard to fly as that would change the center of mass constantly

Have the thrusters on a fast (variable) clock instead with fixed thruster angel that points more downwards to be more fuel efficient. Standard hover could be a 2 on : 1 off clock with an XOR for down to make it 1 on : 2 off and an OR for up to 3 on : 0 off.

Id like to see that diagramed up. I built a repeater into my heli to pulse them on and off while hovering and turn the thrusters on while the button is pushed. I have a Blueprint if you want to see if you can improve it. Im not very good with logic gates.

There needs to be a refined fuel crafted from a bunch of basic fuel that lasts longer. Something like 10 fuel per 1 refined fuel, and 1 refined lasts as long as like 9 normal fuel. That way it isn't as efficient, but it is better.
I don't think they'd make a more complex fuel that's less efficient.
How about mixing 10 fuel with 5 chemical to make 10 turbo-fuel, which would power engines and thrusters at double-strength, so you could reduce their settings by half. I think that would be cool.
@@tombroad9239 They do, in quite a few recipes, give the player less resources than what they put in. Example being 20 t2 Metal for 10 t3 Metal. You get less, but better, resources.
As Interesting as Double strength thrusters would be, I'd doubt it will happen, but only time can tell on that.

You'd put in 15 ingredients and end up with 10 improved fuel.
Most of their 'improvement' recipes are about 'refining', giving reduced output but with higher quality.
The main thing, I think we can all agree on, is that; WE NEED A PROPELLER, OR SOMETHING THAT WORKS LIKE A THRUSTER BUT ISN'T AS INSANELY EXPENSIVE, AND IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE AS STRONG! PLEASE, SCRAP MECHANIC DEVELOPERS! WE NEED IT! FOR STUFF LIKE BOATS, AND SOME AIRCRAFT! WE DON'T LIKE HAVING TO USE THRUSTERS!

Why not just larger fuel canister and new air propelling system, or even better where you have a vacuum pump attachment where when pump pushes items into vacuum tubes and then it goes to the container, and to improve the design they can put top thrusters on-off every 0.5 seconds to pulsate so they are more efficient
You should keep some bubble wrap on the bottom back and on the landing slabs so that on the water it will level out.

Put a death bag full of fuel on it. It acts both as a lightweight beacon if you lose the vehicle and an emergency fuel source if you get stranded. If that feels too much like an exploit, just put a bed on it so you can suicide to find it (also helps if you fall off and die like Kosmo).

@@burnttoast5372 Yes, IIRC produce crates and resource rods are the only things that prevent lifting.
You probably already thought of this, but replace the spudgun with the crane you mentioned, and use it to airlift the tank to warehouses and crates to the trader. You'd probably also want a vacuum pump for packing stations.

I'm pretty sure the tank would be way too heavy to be lifted by the copter, i mean have you ever seen an irl heli lift a tank?
Whenever Kosmo fell out and died I just heard the mash theme play in my head
going at the redbot with a single spud gun is only a step in the right direction... think MI24, stub wings with 2 or 3 guns mounted on each. make the wings ( and crane ) detachable so you can configure the chopper to suit the mission you're doing instead of needing many different flyers
Make the fuel into loop. Like attach another vacuum tub to the tank to the chest and make a loop to see of it will pull gas.
Kan if you ever run low on fuel or want to conserve fuel while in the air, if you pulse the thrusters they use less gas. sorce: scrapman (idk remember wich vid)
in that video he found out that this is equal, wether you pulse the thruster or have it on constantly
Just did some testing with a tick repeater on my helicopter and found that it not only helps with fuel consumption but with maneuverability and speed as well. Just raced one with a repeater, and one without, they flew for 2:48 each and the economizer made it a quarter distance further.

Was gonna suggest replacing the buffer chest in the Gas Station with fuel containers to stop the oil overflow, but that wouldn't work aesthetically since the buffer chest also acts as a splitter...
To make the suspension glitch stabilizer work for the ferry, you need very long arms, on which to place them. Because when you tilt the vehicle a bit the stabilizer would move a lot more, and the stabilizer resists that movement, even if it will move, it won't move nearly as much. Though you might need like 6+ suspensions, for that, for it to work well with that much weight. Also, I know you know how fuel-inefficient it is to have the thrusters like that, but consider how much faster you could move the vehicle if you didn't rotate the thrusters.
I'd like to see you try to make a more effective gun. Maybe a swiveling seat with a gatling gun so you could aim in first person. Maybe a way to land and use the creation like a turret.
Put 4 of them on it, and make one of those
If it's such a good hauler, see if it can be adapted to haul a mining rig. I'm sure a big part of your resource gathering is the commute.
the way the lift adjustment is done is genius because a fixed amount of fuel is used rather than activating more thrusters and then using more fuel when going up
@kAN! Have a look on reddit for a helicopter, where a guy uses counterweights to control the tilt axis, as compared to the janky and slow suspension glitches.
For the thruster angle, use 2 bearings per thruster, have one connected to a controller setting the default angle to ‘just’ hover, and also have +30° when pushing a button (thats your lift) and another controller on the other bearing to reduce the angle by 15° to descend.
The result is a much easier helicopter to fly!

I would love to see you make a helipad that you drop out mid air it automatically unfolds when it gets close to the ground and then you just land on it and then it's got a button to refold it back into the compacted version which just pops back onto the heli

Btw, I totally think they should add landing gear.
As in, just some sort of simple design on the bottom so it doesn't tip over as easily, like 4 legs angled out to make a bigger stand. And they could be on bearings to fold away during flight (which could be triggered by a sensor in the bottom of the vehicle).

one suggestion i have is to add secondary controls for all your button hotkeys to the numberpad, and then with creations like this where you control the bot with only buttons, you use all your button slots, and assign keys to directions on the numberpad, aka 8 to tilt forward, 2 to tilt backwards, 4 and 6 for left and right, maybe 0 to turn on and off the engines.
i did this with a simple thruster craft that was just a square with 8 thrusters, and i had total control, it was intuitive too.
I have a bot on the workshop called "FLYER with wheels" that shows what i mean. it was made before thrusters had variable thrust, so take that into consideration.

Heh, crane game for farmers. I was going to say make a net, but then i remembered how nutty and impossible that would be.
One idea, is a container that you load up with farmers, but you grab it with the copter that way you dont ALWAYS have to have the device for picking up farmers attached.

you could have a handle at the front and back and two grabbers for a solid connection or just one so the copter can pivot above the cargo
Hello, I have become a man on a mission in the warehouses :P I got a recycling barrel, small 8-sided cardboard box and a number of other noncraftable items out. But suddenly I realized, in the storage rooms with several stores, its so much concrete and items available just by blowing up 4 corner pillars, to release the floor, and then blow it up in smaller pieces that fits in the elevator. That is the most effective room to mine resources with explosives. Still its maybe quicker to make concrete the way its meant to be done than making lots of small explosives, getting to a warehouse, and fighting with the materials into the elevator.

SUGGESTION:
- You could turn your Heli Spud Turret into an extendable spotlight so it has AN ACTUAL USE. Whenever you land at night, that light could save your life.
- Make a speedy vehicle SPECIFICALLY for carrying caged farmers. Do a fork shape that lifts the farmers up, up against a wall, and add a hang-over that keeps them in place.
The one with a back thruster reminds me of the Sikorsky defiant
if only there were a laser pointer you could build or just adjust the width of the lights so you could use it to aim with..
maybe use multiple lights and adjust which direction/angle they point so they overlap in the center (or leave that spot unlit)
a device in front of the bulb to create a shaped shadows might be an option, but i've seen shadows cast by my own vehicle stop showing up... so maybe not reliable.
specifically for aiming, strict follow cam + first person is great.
What i mean by the helipad is it would stick out from the main tree by adding suports that attach to the tree make it out of concrete paint a yellow H on it and add a little path that comes from it and leads to one of the wooden levels
Put a crane arm under the helicopter, and have an explosive feeder using pistons to load the bomb so you can drop the explosive
Just drop a huge concrete block from the air on the farm bot

I build my gyrocopter with two bearing per thruster. One set is fixed so the copter would slowly descend on it's own, it works for soft landings as well as preventing it from flying off if i fell out of the seat. The second set of bearing was hooked to a controller and a button that controlled lift.
It made flying so much easier because if i wanted to land i just had to let off the controls and it would descend slowly at the same speed every time.
Is the suspension glitch still functional?
Fun fact: there are actually a few helicopter designs that used tip jets on the rotor blades. Not to create the lift itself, but to spin the rotor.
Make the second seat a Deployable tricycle.

Yep the starting tile is always the same. pause at 21:50 that would be where my farming base plateau is (spud container is pointed right on it) . I also have a bridge connecting the other plateau.
it is untouchable to bots ultimate protection with no walls. I use an underground pipe for water.

I have 2 ideas for the helicopter.
Idk if scrap mechanic has this since I haven't played it myself, but if you want a combat based plane still, you could have it be like a bomber helicopter. Strap a bomb to the bottom and let the passenger drop it.
For a storage based helicopter, again idk if they have this, but you could do a magnet crane. You could carry vehicles with it by just attaching the magnet to the vehicle and bring it anywhere
Add an extra layer of wood on the bottom and make a fold up farmer crane for the heli
Instead of a spud gun, it might have been easier for the gunner to be a bomber instead - have a pump spit out explosives from a chest.
Also, you could save weight by using pistons for the rotors.

"thrusters on a stick" yeah.., you should see some of the early-cold-war-era helicopters, they literally had jets at the tips of the rotor blades.
Could use a WS converter, which might be too complicated for what it's worth honestly. Although a looped controller hooked up to your seat controlling your pitch suspension glitch would work. Also might wanna see about making something that can hover with less than 5 thrusters. Like I get it, using less thrusters is hard but getting 3 to hover with adjustable strength is pretty reasonably doable with some free time.
What I think would be really awesome would be to build a building that constantly hovers above an oil pond, sucking up the oil and turning it into gas and using that to power the thrusters. Ideally build a whole floating base.
Maybe make the turret seat move with the spudgun, so that it can be used in first person mode to aim. Then maybe sniping pots might not be that difficult.
You should attach the seat to the gun, on the end of the rotating part, so it turns with the gun. It would probably be a bit heavier and bulkier, but it really wouldn't be too bad. It would make using the gun so much easier!
You could also attach a light to the bottom of the gun and use it while flying through scrap city
You should have Multiple spud guns facing directly down so when you hover over enemies it's much easier to hit
Well when you honk about it, us coast guard helicopters have like no fule in them so they can fly fast and sort of far, but that is a whole different thing from your flyer chugging gas every millisecond.

Could you do a multiplayer monday where you save a copy of this world and it's a free for all timed build where you can only grab the components that are there, kinda like junk yard wars? Or if not this map, just stock random parts in placed where you have XX time to gather and then build your vehicle to do a race or what ever challenge? Awesome helicopter btw!

Having the containers pull from attached chests would be better.
In my opinion, they will not change as there will be no more benefit to making gas containers when you can just make 1 chest to substitute 6 gas containers.
@@jeffjefjeff724 That's why my idea would be better, as the gas containers would also be able to pull from other gas containers that are attached. Either way though they probably won't do it.
This thing with the chapter 2 turret seat would be insane
A crane arm with a spot light on it could be cool. You could hover over the chemical plant and suck up chemicals with a vacuum pump. At night, the spot light would look amazing and help with aiming the crane arm. Obviously none of this is practical but it would be extremely cool

I think a shooting cage for kosmo to stand in would be neat, I dont think the copter is fast enough to kick him out.

Scrap mechanic really needs to implement a gyro, all these glitched stabilised vehicles really just prove there's a need for a physics based stabiliser.
Maybe a specialized sensor type would work. It would either have to upgrade from the regular sensors, or preferably be a separate thing to build with its own levels and upgrade path.

I've got a wildly impractical idea for connecting your lake to the ocean so that a boat could get through on it's own, sets and sets of rollers, you could build them so that they go down under the low point of the boat as it sits on the surface and then you also have some along the top so that way it just rolls through the roller bridge to the ocean..... however far that would be, and it would totally kill the game, also I totally haven't actually tested the concept out.... but it should work? and hey at least you wouldn't have to put wheels on the boat.

I've always wanted to build a river boat in Scrap Mechanic.
Do a piston lift under the helicopter that can carry the warehouse tank (you may need more propellers)
You should make a concrete 3 cube 2x2x2 that is glitchwelded a stupid amount of times so you just have this stupidly heavy 2x2 block like for him to see this :)
