  • 1. Firstly, do not eat or drink for two hours after surgery and do not smoke for at least 6 hours at all.
    2. If a sterile gauze pack is placed into your mouth in order to control bleeding, bite it tight for half an hour.
    3. Do never rinse your mouth or spit out up to the following day. If the blood oozes into your mouth you would rather swallow instead of spitting it out.
    4. Do not touch or poke either with your tongue or your finger to the surgical wound, stitches and the implant caps. If the implant caps are emerged, take care of not overloading them and avoid sharp impacts such as the immediate hit of the kernel of an olive during breakfast.
    5. Get all the medications as prescribed by your dentist. And get in touch with your dentist if you experience any unexpected side effects such as allergy, nausea, vomitting and diarrhea.
    6. Since implant placement is a surgical intervention, it is quite likely to have swelling and bruising around the operation site. Apply cold compress as much as you can within first 24 hours to prevent swelling. Cold compress should be pressed gently onto the surgical site for 10 secs from the outside of the mouth and it should be retrieved for another 10 secs regularly.
    7. Keep your head at a higher position at night by using double pillows.
    8. Do not take hard and crunchy foods that may irritate the surgical site and avoid hot beverages that could promote bleeding. It is recommended to prefer liquid or soft consistency, cold and lukewarm foods for the first days after. If you are an ice cream lover like me, I have a good news for you. Consuming ice cream during the first days after surgery is highly recommended due to its nutritional content, soft consistency and cold compress effect. Additionally, some grated fruits or vegetables may also be preffered to avoid vitamin and mineral deficiency.
    9. Brushing your teeth is forbidden on the first day of the surgery. However, on the following days teeth may be brushed gently with paying great attention not to irritate the surgical wound and the stitches.
    10. Do not forget to have your stitches removed and the surgical site checked on the appointment date you are given.
