Very helpful. Very comprehensive and easy to follow. Anyone getting these procedures should watch this before and after surgery. Got two implants yesterday and a front tooth crown build-up. Sutures on all three. Lucky waking up with no pain, no swelling, little to no bleeding, and no discoloring. Thanks for making and sharing this video.

Respectfully, if you are in the US, that is a bad, bad sign. It's a sign that whoever placed your implant does not possess the depth of knowledge that he/she should in order to be placing implants in the first place. If this person DID possess the depth of knowledge...and experience...he/she would've given you at least SOME guidelines about protecting the site, especially the first day or two.
This is a fact that should be more well publicized, but it's not. Dental implantation should be an area of dental specialty, but right now, it's not. Any dentist, with a day of training...or no training...is licensed to place implants in the US. There is no "specialty" required, and dental implants are BIG money-makers. So ANY unethical, greed-driven dentist can do this. So, as consumers WE have to do our own due diligence, and *make certain* that our dentist is licensed, know any areas of specialty they've obtained, *how many implants they place each year vs. their failure rate*, and *how long they've been placing implants*.
Just because someone is a great general dentist does NOT mean they have the depth of knowledge, education, and YEARS OF EXPERIENCE *successfully* placing implants.
I cannot say this enough, any medical or dental professional who brags, is arrogant, acts haughty and/or entitled, or superior to you...RUN. You want someone who has a moral compass, is passionate about oral health and tooth preservation continues acquiring knowledge throughout their career, and takes the time to educate you themselves OR to have their assistant educate you (running a dental practice is a business, and a dental assistant can educate you as well, if not better, than a dentist due to time constraints).
Make sure you check out your dentist THOROUGHLY, and especially to see how many complaints have been filed against them, any open lawsuits, etc.
There are some very competent dental professionals out there, at all levels, but there are also some money-hungry ones, too...and you have to be careful you don't just go to anyone.
Due your due diligence BEFORE you allow someone to drill into your mandible or maxilla (which is VERY close to your brain, you do NOT want infection there).

I had a dental implant done last year. I had no pain, no swelling, very little bleeding. My doctor told me I could resume my normal activities the next day. I was drinking coffee and eating hot foods the next day. I was exercising a few days after. I went back after 3 months and my doctor said everything looked good and I got my crown about 2 weeks later. I think being healthy really helped with the healing and not having problems with my implant.

I had an implant done then for some reason my body rejected the implant (I don't know the medical terms to explain this) in short it had to be taken out and then the whole process had to be repeated. The dentist did not charge me for the second process. I had the base of the implant put then had to wait six months for the bone to fuse with the implant, then he put the crown however after a month the left side of my face became sore and swollen. I had to be on antibiotics and pain meds then when the swelling went down, he rechecked the area and that's when when he informed me, he will have to take it out. I nearly wept because the process is debilitating. So we had to schedule in a week then he took it out cleaned the area then put the base of the implant. He gave me most of these instructions and I stayed with it for one year while still going back for multiple reviews. After a year, he checked, and rechecked and double checked to ensure that my bone had infused with the implant and there was no pain, discomfort or any felt pressure when he touched the surrounding gum area. I then did bitewings (I call it x-ray for teeth 😂) for him to Countercheck the implant and bone infusion. When he was satisfied, three months later he put the crown and I am happy to report that it is not 14years of bliss that I at times forget that I have an implant. I don't know the medical terms to explain these whole story so I just explained it as best as I can. For sure, the process is not easy however, my dentist gave me very effective pain medications as well as antibiotics that really helped. I also, religiously followed all the instructions he gave me to ensure that the dental implant is not "rejected" a second time. Thank you for taking the time to read through my long essay of a text. Lots of love and appreciation from Nairobi, Kenya 🇰🇪

This is pretty much in line with the care instructions I received with a few exceptions. I was told nothing hot for 48 hours, jello pudding the day of, creamy/soft stuff the second day, normal food the third day, but nothing that required crunching or grinding of food for a week. I was also told not to smoke or drink through a straw for a week but there was no mention of carbonated drink or exercise restrictions.

Thank you so so much for your thorough and very helpful explanation, tips, wisdom, and advice. I am so grateful to have come across your videos. First, with wisdom tooth and tooth extractions and now for dental implants. I had a bottom molar extracted along with my bottom wisdom teeth and had a bone graft placed at the time. Now three months later, next week I am getting the dental implant process started. Was very nervous and not knowing what to expect with recovery, what all exactly was going to be happening, etc. Thank you so much for putting me at ease. I was really worried about the gum getting cut into and pulled back and what that was going to feel like after. But after watching your video, I think it may be on par if not less pain than it was getting my wisdom teeth and tooth out (I hope!). Thank you thank you!

Hi! I also had my full top arch done. But I lost all 14 of the teeth(that were supposed to be crowns😢) due to COVID shutting down the VA hospital for all non emergent care. They left with wide open margins and temp crowns fro 9 months. The infection went into my jaw bone. So a few months reconstruction of just 28 new crowns tuned into a 2 year painful ordeal.
16 surgeries,20 something bone grafts, after infected bone was removed and finally last Tuesday all top teeth extracted, 8 implant bases loaded, bone grafting around implant bases and about 30 or so stitches.
My left sinus cavity was punctured. The pain has been unbearable at times, just in tears. But I’m 5 days post op and swelling is way down and pain is controlled.
Did you experience a great deal of pain with a full arch extraction? Any bone grafts or ridge smoothing?
Just wondering if it’s this painful for most or if it was my Infection and drawn out process. Thank you.

Thank you for the explanations - we all need an 'Implants 101' since the professionals doing these procedures are real busy with work. It's all routine while we patients can be completely clueless. Massage not really working. Massage the nerve area or massage the numb area? B Vitamins were recomended to heal the nerve.

When I woke up late last night, I was in very minimal pain, and this morning I woke up with literally no pain. The sutures are a little pokey into my lip, but I don't mind that. I don't know if this is a good or bad thing (the lack of pain), but as long as I'm not hurting, I'll take that as a good sign. Haha. @@raybrown8412 I was so anxious, too! Are you being put under? The pain was super minimal overall. If you're given pain meds, it'll be a total breeze! I took a mixture of ibuprofen and Tylenol (4 ibuprofen + 2 extra strength Tylenol - this is what my surgeon recommended) every 6 hours, and if you take Rx pain meds with it, you'll be good. I swear you'll do fine! I was a nightmare before it, like crying like a baby in the stupid dentist chair. Haha! :D

If I don't need a bone graft, should I get an implant immediately after tooth extraction? Or wait until after I heal to make sure that no there is no infection remaining in the socket? If I wait to get an implant, I'm concerned about the neighboring teeth moving, whereas if I get the implant right away, I'm concerned about recurring infection.

@@milliem8051 My dentist extracted the previously root canal treated tooth and did a socket preservation (bone graft). Put a couple of stitches over the hole and those dissolved in about 10 days. No infection. I had to wait 5 months for the bone to grow into the socket. Went to an oral surgeon, who placed the implant. Waited 4 more months for the implant to integrate with the bone. Went back to my dentist. He put on the custom abutment and crown. Total time 9 months from tooth extraction. Since then I have lost some bone on the palate, up behind the tooth, but the implant is secure into the bone and the crown doesn't move. The gums cannot attach to the abutment, like they do with a tooth, so this is a different feeling. If possible, save your teeth.

@@milliem8051 Crowns are the way to go if you have decay and part of the tooth or the filling material is gone. Even the best fitting crowns will have a microgap, and bacteria can get in, so make sure you keep them clean, same as you would with normal teeth. Brush at least twice a day, and floss at least once at night. Try to watch sugar intake. For excellent videos showing dental procedures, I recommend watching Steven Cutbirth Dental Minute CZcams channel. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

I just did my first implant surgery three days ago. I still feel the throbbing pain from under the implant. Three days passed and the pain is still as awful as the first day. I saw so many people talking about implant is less pain then tooth extraction. Not in my case. I had one side for implant and at the same surgery, the other side for extraction. I don't feel any pain from the extraction but am suffering persistent pain from my implant site. It goes away when I take painkiller though. I don't have bleeding or swelling problem. Anyone who has any idea or experienced the same?

Yes. I’ve had 28 extractions, and scraping of infected bone and bone grafting to replace bone. COvId shut down the VA hospital for all non emergency care and it left me sitting prepped for 28 new crown replacements…and a canceled surgery. My bone became infected.
I’ve now had 16 surgeries and last Tuesday was my final. Complete top arch under General anesthesia in the OR. All teeth extracted, bone scraped, ridge smoothing, 8 titanium bases loaded and packed with a ton of bone grafting, the pain was unbearable at times. I’m now 5 days post op and swelling has gone down, but bruising has gotten worse. Pain is much more manageable. This. Stuff. Hurts. Badly, it just hurts.
