Any idea how many times Larry Bird got kicked out of a game? Not the best of ideas, if it resulted in an injury.
But there's a story that during the 1985 conference finals, he injured a finger helping out a friend during a bar fight and had to have a couple of fingers taped together. A reporter seeing this asked him if he would be able to play that way. Larry said yeah and even if he had the whole hand taped into a fist, he’d get more free throws than the reporter. So, they made a bet, giving each other 100 tries, at $5.00 per basket. Bird came out the winner collecting his $160 the next night before the game.
Sorry to hear about the disc problems. I know how it feels. Have my share of these things. Trying acupuncture right now, which is pretty relaxing, but my spine is curved the wrong way and also arthritis is pretty bad. It's the pits to get old. Wish I had Bird's pain tolerance level.
