People will say that Bird wasn’t athletic, but what they really mean is that he wasn’t graceful. Bird was a phenomenal athlete as these highlights demonstrate over and over again.
People think athleticisim is jumping really high and dashing really fast.
Larry pre 1985 was more athletic than he got credit for. He could run, finish breaks, quick leaps for rebounds.
Fun fact, Kevin McHale has an 8ft wingspan and that is how he caught some of Larry's crazy passes. Bill Walton used to joke that Kevin could scratch is ankles without bending or sitting down.
RIP Bill Walton.
I love this compilation! Bird always seemed to know where to be & when. One of my favs is Bird snatching the ball & giving Chuck Person that look! 😂😂😂. He was the Best shooter in the league....without a doubt. I'm hoping at least some of the younger generations will see the vids & give the saviors of BB the respect they deserve!!! Not to mention the ones that paved the way before them!

Basketball evolves as do the players. For that era he was without a doubt the best all-around player and I was a Lakers fan. He wasn't a jumper but he was 6'9" and could shoot and pass like no other - just an amazing basketball mind and as tough as they come. He didn't take sh** from anyone and was the biggest trash talker of all time and backed it up. So glad I experienced those years.
Bird was very unassuming to look at before the game started. So even before the game started he had the advantage. He would out hustle anyone. He always knew where the ball was going to be. He was highly skilled in every aspect of the game. He always delivered especially in the clutch. He was virtually unguardable with his step back shot with the high arc to the basket. His passing was "Globetrotter-like". He consistently rebounded and stole the ball. He played in a very tough league with many of the NBA's greatest stars and he played with physicality and while injured with serious injuries that shortened his career. No other NBA player can lay claim to all these attributes and his stats. That makes Larry Bird the GOAT !!!
I hadn't seen some of these as well. Bird was a great passer, but he had a really great team of receivers, too. They had to be ready at all times. He was scrappy, motivated, determined, never quit trying and greatly talented. Thanks for this video.
I have been off the internet for a while because my computer had broken screen covers (possibly my fault). I sent it out on the 16th (to Texas from Michigan) in the box they gave me and got it back on the 20th, so I have a ton of things to catch up on. Had to give them a shout out because it made me so happy. Also had my first cataract surgery a little over a week ago. Things always come in bunches.

2:58 - in the 1987 playoffs with the Milwaukee Bucks, Love the Parrish absolute enthusiasm when he knows Bird is going to pass that ball “through the legs of Sikma”
(poor Jack 😉, Jersey #43, a 7 foot HoF “Big Man” org for the Supersonics and got that ring in 1979 with none other than Dennis Johnson as his teammate. Then Jack finished out with Milwaukee Bucks from ‘86-‘91 Jack has some good solid stats, regarded as great player and good shooter and was drafted two years before Larry. If you watch quite a few highlights, have Jack being a victim of Larry’s passing, But I’m glad Jack wasn’t too traumatized by the nutmeg and went on to play several more years and became a good coach according to reports)

The fight you weren’t sure about doesn’t seem to have much information on it, but it’s in 1981 with Allan Bristow #44 (utah Jazz, Celtics lost, and Bird was ejected) I would be willing to bet there was definitely more to that story!
Literally My only dis on this vid, is they left out the DJ and Bird hug after the infamous 1987 steal and layup against the Bad Boy Piston….
The oldheads who know say Larry did this stuff in every game … every game, every single game he played!
Reason we have so many of the same highlights over and over is because most regular games were not full coverage, Or not recorded at all.. especially in his early years …think about how many more highlights we haven’t seen and probably never will and are fondly remembered by the oldheads.
This is a highlight reel, but what the young bloods today don't understand is that is what you got from Larry every effing time he stepped on the court. Dude was a bball savant. His rookie year the Celtics, who had been languishing in the basement, improved by 32 games. Only other player I know that had that kind of impact was Jordan. @BU TV, thanks for giving Bird his well deserved flowers.
The guy who he had the fight with where Bird pushes his head into the floor was Alan Bristow, who would later become head coach for the Utah Jazz. Bird didn't discriminate who he picked to fight with. LOL.

Bird ( and Magic) brought phenominal passing into the game, but Larry would do passes that made your head spin! Somehow, he always knew where a guy was- even if that guy was directly behind him few paces with 2 guys on him - and somehow get a perfect blind pass to him for an easy bucket. His court vision was absolutely unmatched by ANYONE.
And that steal against Detroit proved just how far ahead of everyone else he was.
As Worthy said once -"Jordan made you look slow, Larry made you look stupid".

Sadly Bird's father took his own life when Larry was 19 because he was distraught about not providing for the family. If he could only experience what Larry made of himself.
Newer players are better trained physically and mentally for the game but they are mostly robotic now and cant be expected to b good outside of their set of skills. Most of them have to get to their spot to hit a shot and the old players made shit work no mater where they were on the court and made shit up as it was needed and Most new players are just repeating learned skills that have been practiced to be automatic but cant complete anything outside of that training. Not everyone but most of them
