Welcome to another amazing episode of TRS! This is an Oppenheimer Special Episode where we break down the reality behind the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer and dive deep into his life as The Father of the Atomic Bomb.
Today on The Ranveer Show, we welcome Abhijit Chavda to put light on Oppenheimer and what led to the creation of the most hyped movie. Abhijit Chavda is a theoretical physicist, historian, geopolitical analyst, writer, and podcaster with a diverse knowledge of various subjects. I have had the fortune of talking to him on multiple podcast episodes that we did on TRS and this is just another one of those epic conversations.
In this episode, Abhijit Chavda dwelled upon topics that are closely connected to the professional life of Oppenheimer. He talked about the Meaning & Birth of Quantum Mechanics, the Birth of the Atom Bomb Project, Nuclear Fission & Nuclear Fusion, Nuclear Winter & much more. He further talked about the Life of J. Robert Oppenheimer when he started working on the Atom Bomb project and how his story led to the creation of the movie ‘Oppenheimer’.
This episode is for everyone who has or hasn’t watched the movie yet. You will get an in-depth understanding of what the movie is about and the core meaning of the story. It was one of the most interesting yet disturbing podcasts for me to record because of the topics we discussed throughout the conversation which you will get to know once you watch the full episode. I hope you enjoy this, tell us your opinion in the comments below!

6:02 Just a small clarification, the study of motion such as projectile comes under Kinematics and study of application of force and work comes under Dynamics. When we combine both kinematics and dynamics we get Mechanics.
6:40 Neil Bohr gave this unexplained principle of stable energy orbit to sustain his theory which Rutherford failed to explain. De Broglie actually explained why electrons don't fall into the nucleus as it should because it should emit electromagnetic radiation as a charged particle in circular motion should as kinematically circular motion is an accelerating motion. It should lose energy as EM radiation and fall into the nucleus.
He explained that electrons behave as standing waves and standing waves do not exchange energy, they trap it.
13:20 Heavier elements or their isotopes for eg. Ur- 232 , Ur- 235 tend to go under the process of Fission to attain more stability as it increases their 'Binding energy per nucleon' or BPN . More the BPN more the stability.
Smaller nucleus such as Hydrogen- 1 and Helium-4 tend to go under fusion as it increases their 'Binding Energy per nucleon'.
Binding energy per nucleon allows the each nucleon of the nucleus to be bound tightly and attain stability.
Fe or Iron has the highest BPN.
Binding energy is simply the energy that is released during a fission i.e. when a nucleus is split it forms two (usually) daughter nucleus which are of different elements and releases some energy. The more the energy is released more stable are the daughter nucleus. If this energy is given back to the daughter nucleus they can reform the parent nucleus. Thus if a more Binding energy is released by a elements with lower no. of nucleons it would mean that the daughter nucleus are super stable and thus the element will prefer to go under fission to attain this stable state.
Similarly in fusion when two nucleus combine , they release energy which allows the daughter nucleus formed to attain a low energy state which is preferred by the nucleus.

I would have loved to hear about this topic on Mr Abhijit s own channel. There's a reason why people like us have dumped TV for CZcams channels.
We want to hear about the subject or the topic, without the modelling part. Or a unnecessary anchor

Hi Ranveer, you are doing a great job, your channel rocks.
Here's a request. Pl do a series on Indian Armed Forces, pl. Build an understanding among the intolerant younger generation that if they serve the armed forces even for a year or may be 5 yr short service, their outlook towards the country and it's people will change no matter from where do they come, irrespective of their caste, creed or religion. Armed forces culture is only one culture and that is for the nation. I am an artist and my father was in the Airforce and I am married to an army family. We as children are brought up very differently and we feel really surprised when people fight and harm each other on the pretext of issues like caste, community and religion. I really think they need some military training... Just a food for thought, do consider. Thanks

@45:20 No Abhijit sir. They intentionally toned down the yield of Tsar Bomba from 100 MT to 50MT for two reasons:
    1. It could potentially damage the nearby habitation with large nuclear fallout
    2. To let the pilots escape as the plane was a modified bomber that couldn't fly any faster

Thanks Chavdaji, I did some background reading after this and I concised my further learnings below.
The development of quantum mechanics and the atomic bomb are interconnected in several ways:
    1. Understanding of the Atom: Quantum mechanics provided a detailed understanding of the atom, particularly the behavior of subatomic particles like electrons, protons, and neutrons. This understanding was crucial for grasping the principles behind nuclear reactions, which are at the heart of the atomic bomb.
    2. Nuclear Fission: The discovery of nuclear fission in 1938 by Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann, and its theoretical explanation by Lise Meitner and Otto Frisch, was rooted in the principles of quantum mechanics. Fission is the process by which an atomic nucleus splits into two smaller nuclei, releasing a significant amount of energy. This energy release is what powers the atomic bomb.
    3. Chain Reactions: Quantum mechanics helped scientists understand how a single fission event could trigger further fissions, leading to a chain reaction. Enrico Fermi's achievement of the first controlled nuclear chain reaction in 1942 was based on this principle.
    4. Critical Mass: Quantum mechanics also played a role in determining the "critical mass" of fissile material needed for a bomb to detonate. The critical mass is the minimum amount of material required to sustain a chain reaction.
    5. Scientists' Migration: Many of the scientists who contributed to the development of quantum mechanics in Europe migrated to the United States in the 1930s and 1940s due to the rise of fascism and anti-Semitism. These scientists, including Albert Einstein, Enrico Fermi, and Edward Teller, played pivotal roles in the Manhattan Project and the development of the atomic bomb.
    6. Technological Advancements: The experimental techniques and instruments developed for quantum mechanical research, such as particle accelerators and detectors, were also used in nuclear physics research related to the atomic bomb.
Even while quantum mechanics and the atomic bomb are distinct areas of study, the foundational understanding provided by quantum mechanics was instrumental in the scientific and technological advancements that led to the development of the atomic bomb.
