  • Welcome to Holtonsfixit101 In this video I'll go over some of the differences of the TRA001 2400w and the MOF001 1400w Triton routers. These routers may look the same but there are things about them that are different. I've had the MOF001 1400w router for some time now and in that time i'm very pleased with the way it performed. It plows through anything I've asked of it. Then came the TRA001 2400w. Managed to get this one at a recent tool show off the Triton stand. Never went to the show to buy a router but the price was so good and the salesman was very persuasive.
    Anyhow the TRA001 2400w router is a beast to say the least. What a router to be mounted in a table and with 2400w on tap you could put the biggest panel raising bit in it and would not even brake a sweat.

    Great informational video! - Only the music is too loud as others pointed out, but overall excellent info. - Could you please tell me the TRA001 once mounted on a table, are we able to raise it enough to change the router tips? Or even the collet? - Making everything operational from the top would be great, thank you in advance!

    Hi good video, i was wondering about this circular base, is the router bit (which ever one) in the exact centre in relation to the base or is it in any way not quite centre?

    Hi there, I have been looking at these very interested but I have a question for you if you please could give me some feedback , Is the router bit dead centre to the whole circumfrance of the router base ( the one I have now actually is not, its out by around 1mm to one side) , thanks in advance

    I'm commenting as points come up, so might have missed later content.
    You mentioned not have to reach underneath for the power switch if table mounted, but the switch has an interlock that prevents the spindle lock engaging while powered on. We have a TRA001 and we do have a table mounted switch, but still have to reach under the table to change bits. It's no problem providing you orientate the router correctly. That worked out well on a Kreg top plate, but we have a different table now, and it is slightly more difficult to find the switch. I pull back the plastic interlock with middle finger, and operate the switch with forefinger.
    I'm glad you mentioned the course adjustment knob on the side with finger operated clutch. That is a huge time saver.
    The top adjustment crank handle operates a 14tpi thread, which feels an odd choice to me - 16tpi would be better for imperial Luddites. 14tpi works out to 1.8mm per turn, so I made some calibration disks in Photoshop which I laminated. Reply to this if anyone wants the file.
    We use the TRA001 at the Menz Shed I belong to, but I'd like to have a better table router at home. Strangely there is bugger all difference in price locally though
    www.carbatec.co.nz/category/446-routers
    I'm in New Zealand and need 240volt, and I can't find a 240v version on Amazon.
    These are total no brainers in my opinion, because you don't need a lift if table mounting. That saves you a ton of money. Really excellent routers. Especially if table mounting.

      Thanks for those kind words and I totally agree about the slide over the router switch and found it a pain when I first started using it in my bench top router table. But it's there for safety and i'm glad it is. I do keep forgeting to engage or disengage it though because i have two router tables and the other one's not fitted with a trton router.

      The adjuster on the handle took me a min to Figure out how to turn properly. When i did I realized I might be a little daft. But I was never crazy about the increments It provides seem a little bit too large. I agree. I'm actually thinking about getting the smaller version, but it's still a rather large router and I'm wondering if I could find something a little more compact with the Same power

    I’m new to routers and looking for something that can handle small delicate projects to larger projects.
    Does the router from the largest RPM one mention to the smallest RPM mention matter when working with smaller sensitive wood projects?

    Do you have to override the on off router switch when used under a table with an NVR switch

    • @Holtonsfixit101
      @Holtonsfixit101  Před 3 lety +1

      No you still have to reach under the table. I jusy use a NVR switch because it make it convenient between cut and changing the height of the cutter. To be honest I'm glad the switch on the routers there because of the spindle lock and stops the router from being switched on when changing router bits.

  • @ChristopherClaudioSkierka

    ps would you use the TRA001 hand held or just under a table? Do you think the MOF001 is powerful enough for table use bearing in mind al lot work requires single passes. thanks in advance sir

    • @Holtonsfixit101
      @Holtonsfixit101  Před 3 lety +2

      The TRA001 is a bit heavy for hand held routing even though i've used it such a way but having said that it's a beast under a table meanig it cuts through anything thrown at it. I've even use it with a 60mm rebating bit in the table and the router didn't break a sweat. As for the mof I've never use it in a table but i'm sure it would perform quite well. Both routers having the benifit of above the table adjustment is very handy. The Mof I find is a nice combo of weight and power but Tra001 is a little overkill for hand held but that's just me

      @@Holtonsfixit101 I am just wondering to go for the MOF or not - its a bit cheaper but for example I use a 700w hand router fall all my routing and its been very good but I make several passes no more than 3mm deep otherwise the motor will burn out and its only 1/4 collet so its not a good ldea really to go deeper with it, its not made for it. The thing is like you mentioned you used 60mm bit i presume in one pass? that tends to be the idea really with table based routers and something is telling me the MOF maybe ok or just above border line to take things in one pass. So perhaps the TRA is the way to go and stick to a smaller router for the hand held stuff . If my little router packs in then perhaps go for either the TRA or JOF which is actually 1010W. Can I ask you - do you have the adaptor to attach it to a track ? and if you do does it fit the makita tracks? ps you might laugh but the hand router i have been using is the Katsu - really really good hand held router - very underrated (£35) , its a makita copy almost as good build quality but the only issue is the router bit centre is not centre with the base, its out by around i think 1mm or so off centre. thanks for the reply by the way

      The mof is a very good router. There's not much i can say negative about it but if you do decide on any of the triton range you won't be disappointed. The main rule of thumb with buying any tools is only buy what you can afford and what suits your needs. You can always upgrade later.

      @@Holtonsfixit101 good words of wisdom, of course one must be wise not to by too cheap then you end up paying twice which i have done (eg a table saw ohhhhh gives me a headache thinking about it). I might go for the more expensive of the 2 - price difference is not really that much

  • @ChristopherClaudioSkierka

    Hi, mmm just wondering when I was in a middle of doing long lines of several passes at 3mm at a time with my 710W hand router,,, seems to take forever. With The Triton MOf 001 using a 1/4 shank router bit, what do you think is the max depth on a single pass you can do with over stretching the router and bit?

    • @Holtonsfixit101
      @Holtonsfixit101  Před 3 lety +2

      With the Triton you have the option to use either 1/2" or 1/4" Bits. Myself i would use 1/2" bits wherever possible

      @@Holtonsfixit101 THe MOF has here in the uk 2 collets - 1/4 inch and a useless 8mm - why on earth an 8mm why not the more used 1/2 inch . Do you know of an advantage of using a 8mm bit? I see them as a option but not all the time.
