    The Firewire/Slater Designs S Boss surfboard in the Ibolic technology. An exceptional new performance board developed by the legend that is Dan Mann and of course surfing royalty itself Kelly Slater. This is a board that can/will work for pretty much anyone in the intermediate bracket and up in a huge wave range, we've all been fighting over who gets to surf the demo board we've had here, its a winner.
    The S Boss is loaded with innovative features and has a really pleasing under arm feel. So, the features, the first and most noticeable is the bottom contour, what Dan and Slater call the double barrel set into a V bottom contour, basically its got a spine down the base of the board with concave either side. What this means for the average guy is lots of lift and so speed and easier release into turns, it looks pretty extreme and really makes you want to surf it! The board has parallel rails for drive and hold, and a rocker line like the Dominator 2.0 so pretty user friendly. The balance in the board is superb, the volume distribution feels spot on for both paddling and performance. If you want a board to sit above your groveler and below a high performance board the S Boss fits the bill, it will handle size and power too. The pulled in round tail feels super smooth but don't be deceived this board will turn super tightly, great for pocket surfing.
    The S Boss surfboard looks to be a great Hybrid style board that will generate speed with ease and is surprisingly good in sub optimal waves too. Aim to ride it around 2 inches shorter than your performance board and 1-2 inches gibber than your groveler, if in doubt go bigger rather than smaller this board carries volume really well. Fin wise we're split right down the middle on quad or thruster set up, try it as both and see what you think.
    Ibolic construction is a leap forward in surfboard manufacturing with the best elements of LFT and Helium combined. This Patent Pending technology is built into the core blank construction to create preloaded structural flex together with structure strength and durability. The S Boss has Fibre Reinforced I-Beam high density foam stringer down the centre with Parabolic Rail Springers from nose to tail. There are three independent points for flex control and break resistance. I-Beam ensures firmness underfoot and unparalleled strength. The two Parabolic Rail Springers enable even flex and give great recoil through your turns. I-BOLIC Technology is an engineering feat that builds performance into the core of the surfboard there are no external carbon layups or heavy laminations with this cracking tech. What this all means is that get a board that is stronger than a helium board and has the feel of an LFT with even faster recoil, this tech is really nicely weighted too, you'll surfer faster and harder all in the knowledge that the Ibolic tech is Firewire's toughest yet.
    The team here have surfed pretty much every board in the Slater and Firewire range at some time or another and we speak to surfers from all over the world and get their feedback on how the boards perform in all sorts of conditions so we're well placed to talk about all aspects of Firewire surfboards.

    Sounds like a Revo with the spine and channels/concaves. Interesting design from Dan Mann. Great review and explanation of the board! 🤙

    How does it compare to the Tomo Revo?

    • @BoardshopUK
      @BoardshopUK  Před 5 měsíci +4

      Solid Question, The Revo is your more user-friendly performance shortboard, will go in almost most conditions and offers the stability and control you need on the face or in a more critical part of the wave, the S Boss on the other hand is a more high performance orientated board, has a more refined outline, pulled in nose and that pin tail which offers the stability and drive you need in those more critical parts of the wave. S Boss is easier to get on the rail and will surf more top - bottom.

    I miss the LFT because of the momentum the ibolic stops quickly when the wave is weak

    How does it compare to the Dominator II?

    • @BoardshopUK
      @BoardshopUK  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The Dominator II is your more user-friendly performance shortboard, will go in almost most conditions and offers the stability and control you need on the face of the wave, and offers more accessible performance from the overall shape, the S Boss on the other hand is a more high performance orientated board, has a more refined outline, pulled in nose and that pin tail which offers the stability and drive you need in those more critical parts of the wave. S Boss is easier to get on the rail and will surf more top - bottom.
