The original CI Mid stormed onto the scene with its trusty 2-plus-1 fin setup. Though designed for single-fin performance, the side fins’ placement left much to be desired for a twin configuration. So, Channel Islands collaborated once again with Southern Californian surfer and champion of all things style and glide Devon Howard . Through rigorous experimentation, tweaking fin placements, tail ...

4 boards!!! 🤯😂
I wouldn’t be surprised if the bottom one gets pressure marks 😂
I have a 5’4” seaside @29.8 liters in helium and it paddles like 32 liters. I like the look of this, especially with thinner nose and tail

Been meaning to pickup a rnf96, thing looks sick
Highly recommend!!
I had some great waves on the Evo but didn’t think it paddled that well.
Greedy Beaver 🦫! I never get to surf anymore because I moved and am landlocked. So my paddle stamina and strength suck.

Hey, any feedback from anyone on how this model goes for you? I have a 5’6 sub scorcher 2 single wing swallow that I love. The only issue is that sometimes the wider nose gets in the way as the wave quality improves and gets more steep/hollow. Wondering if this board would be a good option to add to the quiver for when the conditions improve? Thank you. Love the channel!
Weird back in 1997 i designed a short board to be used like a skateboard . It looked just like the one in video. Like a wakeboard. However I had three prototypes ridden by some great surfers here in Ventura..first one I was teamed up with Fletcher chouinard from Patagonia tried using recycled blanks etc. and board had two glassed on kick pads basically and a trail fin in front so fakey ...actually worked . Second board I experimented with candy paints metal flake ..like lowriders .. but although the paint job was ghost flames and skullz and looked way rad .. seemed like a big shiny fishing lure... Uh no thanks. Third board I got together with a co worker who was a brainiac builds his own computers flies drones for special ops.. anyways he came up with the golf ball theory .. the holes .. it's what make them sail fly .. speed .. so after several different size grids on bottom of boards big .small. spacing .. holy smokes all the pre team riders were super stoked .. so far out in front of waves without more than one pump ..just effortlessly shot like a rocket across face.. and turns ..well like the one in video .. not a fish but a high performance shortboard surfing 4-6 ft waves .. the guys surfing ghem were able to perform what they had in there heads judos, Ollie's,shuvits , oh and thee biggest airs!! Forgot another feature was like hand rails kind of indentations for your fingers to grab board .. not going to give ALL the things I came up with but those were the basics . What happened? Got a investor had all the contracts done up lawyers shaping machines. . It got messy . But when I first just saw that board ... Reminded me of 1997 ..
Is Michael J. Fox really giving away the original hoverboard from Back to the Future? Thanks Marty! I’ll pay shipping
The only king of twin fins is Ryan Burch
Not really though 😏
10/10
I was looking for the sweetpotato but firewire australia doesnt have it in stock and will take forever to make one by order. How the machadocado compares to it? Both seems to have a pretty wide outline... I also have a 5 9 seaside, 5 10 puddle jumper hp, 61 dominator 2
inspired by the outline of an avocado mixed with the DNA of a fish and the performance of a shortboard. Experience the joy of catching waves where you wouldn’t even consider paddling for , Machados most versatile squash tail board yet…The Sweet Potato is probably the widest, flattest, thickest small wave surfboard you will ever surf. It's high performance but it's definitely a groveler, this shape is the absolute most fun you can have in really bad waves. The Machadocado is a more refined small - medium wave board but packs a punch with it’s performance. Best ridden as a twin+trailer you can have ultimate twinny speed and flow with shortboard performance, with the SP best ridden as a quad for extra drive in the weaker mushy conditions.
Hi Ian! If you're trying to decide between the Holy Hypto versus Hypto Krypto for a daily driver 3ft - 6ft beachbreaks, some points. Which would you choose and why?
Opinion on transitionning from a 8ft long/fun board to a 6’6 fish mod? (I weight about 145lbs) I feel like my 8ft is kind of limiting my turning having 60L… so I would like a board that can introduce me to more carving but still give me the help I need for now!
I’d also add I’m 6ft, and ride mostly on the east coast of America / Canada + river waves! Any help would be greatly appreciated :)! Thanks
The Torq Mod Fish is a great board and will be a great board to come onto from a big chunky foamie, however 6' 6 might be too big of a step down from an 8' 0. A 6' 10 would probably be a better board to transition to , still giving the forgiveness / stability needed but will be short and responsive to allow you to start making turns and navigating the face of the wave better!
"I don't get excited about surfboards anymore, I'm very jaded" What do you do for a living? "I own a surfboard shop" 🥴
Idk why I just never liked how FW boards looked and somehow it’s resulted in me never surfing one, I feel like I should try and change that
looks aren't everything ! definitely worth the try
Metrical system! I never understand the measuring system. THe swell can be 3-4ft but then probably needs to be a long period because it jacks up pretty hard. I'd say a solid OH (2m+) face...
boss up till i get my hands on that macha- avaocado thing :D
Thanks for the tip on the fit, Hurley = Oneil
I disagree I have a seaside a dominator 2.0 and the boss up one must always take three
But which one is your favourite child?
@@guydinsdale3645 dominator 2 is but don’t tell the others
Wym it must always take three
Dark Arts carbon wrap is kind of a game changer. I’ve been riding mine for four months and really feel an improvement in my surfing. Obviously there’s still more improvement needed, but it’s going well so far. I highly recommend!

Very different boards in terms of rider ability. Hypto and Pyzel Ghost are totally in different league 😅
Not really - get the right size and any half decent surfer can surf both
at least 6
8foot wave
6
Great brand great board
What soze would you recommend for someone who is sportive, but only gets a max. of 30 days in the water each year? Aiming to get good turns and cutbacks working, can catch most waves with a 7'2 ~50l and want to size down a bit. I'm around 83 kg and 194cm tall. Thx anyone for answering!
Super fun board
Thanks
Most Machado boards are designed for and around Rob. I don't know too many, OK, I don't know anybody who surfs like Rob. Maybe Slater, Fanning, JJF, but these guys are super talented and most likely from another planet. (JK). I appreciate that Rob's pushing the parameters.
Whilst most boards are designed for a pro/ team rider at some point , they do have the average surfer in mind, the Machadocdo is still a really fun user-friendly board, paddles well, nice and stable but still with the ability to get it moving !
Works this also in 6.0?
how much overlap does it have with the ol Glazer? look similar in some ways then a bit "different" in others....obviously
There are some overlaps between the two , to be honest, we think the Machadocado is a much more user-friendly versatile board than the Glazer, the chadocado is a well balanced proportionate board, foam in all the right places but gives you that desired performance feel you want
Assuming he's around 6ft, it's a solid 8ft on the face before it closes out.
Oh look, 9 years later Firewire make their version of the Lost Puddle Jumper. Helium rocks though, gotta give them that.
oh look! you have no idea what youre talking about! A fuller outline constitutes making a puddle jumper? Look at the differences in 1. the rocker profile (firewires is much flatter) 2. the width of the tail and actually the entire bottom half of the surfboard. 3. The foil of the rails and bottom contours. 4. This is a 2+1 or straight twin set up. Meaning the fin placement is completely different making it a completely different category. If you have any further questions about basic surfboard design, i am happy to help you with more simplistic explanations. You would have a better case for saying the Puddle Jumper is a knock off of a Hayden Hypto Crypto.
I would've liked it more with swallow tail and 5 boxes but... dayum, it looks like a really nice board to have for Mediterranean waves. 🤙
I’ve ordered a 5’10 in the grey swirl and I’m the wrong side of 50! I’m going over to the UK in a couple of weeks to collect it. I reckon it’s got baked potato vibes but should be a bit more controllable and versatile.
It took me about 5 attempts to figure out the name lol. Board rips! Get you or one of the bois on it out there, yall will love it. Size it up a bit I'd reckon.
nice watch
This board vs the Seaside? Seems similar but different... Quad versus 2+1 ... Apart from buying both how would you choose between them?
Inspired by the outline of an avocado mixed with the DNA of a fish and the performance of a shortboard. The Cado is one of those magic boards where everything just falls into place, twinny speed and drive but with the response of a classic shortboard template. It'll paddle extremely well and will catch waves just like the Seaside but does not carry any extra thickness in the rail or nose ... whereas the Seaside has a lot of thickness throughout the shape, great for paddling and stability but when trying to engage the rail can feel bulky , the Cado will allow you to engage that rail and hold its line well. Depends how you want the board to surf, fast, responsive and ability to keep it in the pocket or go more drawn out in the turning lines with loads of drive ...
@@BoardshopUK I get which way the Boardshop crew are leaning ... And yes I agree
On take off it’s solid 4ft got a bit of a grower on it though ends solid 5
Buy this board Ty!!!
