    I have ADSB in and out in my RV-8 and while I can't say for certain that it has saved my bacon, it has identified traffic that I could not visually acquire, and was very close (< 1 mile). Some of those incidents were pretty scary. Sadly, very few GA aircraft in Europe have ADSB out, even though it's widely available, and very inexpensive. Thanks for the video, Magnar!

    Many will always remember the Überlingen Disaster back in 2004 when reading or hearing the term "TCAS". It shows until today the benefit of TCAS and how to use it in a right way - and sadly: how not to use it.
    Thank you very much for this again very informative Video!🙂👍 Your Uncle really deserved a better fate.

    Magnar, great video. I’m always hesitant to acknowledge sighting an aircraft to ATC (in most cases). It is too easy to assume the one you have sighted is actually the conflict aircraft - especially in a busy terminal area.

    Very smart…placing your ATR above a Thai747….

    “Descend” “Descend” is not a TCAS alert, this is a TCAS RA (resolution advisory).

      What do you mean? My understanding was any instruction from the TCAS system to descend, climb, or adjust vertical speed was an RA

    never realized there was so much directional inaccuracy with the system, however, in the last case study, would the traffic still not be accurately portrayed as not get any closer... I am basing this more on maritime systems which I am much more familiar with...

    If you believe the 6up story, you know the stuff comes standard in a 6 pack. Now available in the glass version, too.

    Thanks for the refresher. BTW, do you know about the lithium 7up connection? It's a shame they don't still add it to the drink, lithium is great stuff, I take lithium orotate daily for mood and brain health.

    Nothing new sad to say. If you miss the intruder in the vertical plane, the other planes dont matter. Been through 3 real RAs due to ATC errors and countless RA setups in flight test.. ADSB is far better, but TCAS 2 is about 35 years old,i was working on it in early 1990, we didnt have ADSB hell Mode S was primitive then

    Do you have a video on single engine taxi?

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  Před 6 měsíci +1

      No, there's not much to say about it. The aircraft is easy to taxi on one engine. Just don't stop before you make a turn into the operating engine side.

    Capt, does the std 3 nas equipped with auto tcas now like those on airbus?

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  Před 3 měsíci

      No. This is not possible because ATR aircraft do not have auto throttle.

  • @capdink
    @capdink Před 6 měsíci

    Sorry if I’m wrong. On the ATR 72-600 you don’t switch off the FDs. Is it not a big flaw? While you are trying to follow the vertical orders and the FDs gives you other orders.. not sure if this is changed already.

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Standard procedure for all ATR variants is, when receiving an RA, to set the flight director to standby. The 600 is no expemtion.

    Can auto pilot take action if the pilot didn't get the notification for any reason?

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  Před 5 měsíci +1

      The notification is very loud. For ATR aircraft, the ansver is no. Several Airbus models allows the aircraft to automatically fly the RA when the autopilot is engaged.
