    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear friends and followers welcome back to my channel. Today's video is very much addressed to my flight students, as we'll be looking at the question, what is a VOR, how does it work and what a VOR has to do with a Lighthouse?
VOR stands for VHF omnidirectional range. I know I haven't made it any better. VHF stands for very high frequency, which makes a VOR only a short-range radio navigation system, so in line of sight, VOR`s are receivable from 25 NM up to 140 NM useable radius.
Line of sight meaning, if there's a mountain between you and the VOR, you will not receive a reliable signal even though you are within the station's range.
Omnidirectional comes from the Latin word omni which means, all or every direction, meaning the VOR sends out 360 lines, let's call them lines for now, which can be picked up by a VOR receiver. In today's video will use a CDI, Course Deviation Indicator with an OBS a Omni bearing selector which is very common in your standard Cessnas, Pipers etc.
Now a common question by the FAA. Are VOR's aligned towards true north or magnetic north? Magnetic north, as you can clearly see on the compass rose around the VOR. If a VOR would point to True north it would always point in the same direction on the chart, as standard charts are oriented towards true north.
But if you compare the Hay River VOR in Northern Canada with a magnetic variation of 16 degrees and Ottersberg VOR with 3 degrees you know VORs are aligned towards magnetic north.
But actually, the answer is both, because some of the VORs in the far north of Canada are aligned with true north, but that's a whole video right there about that topic!
    See more in the video!
Thank you very much for your time! I hope you enjoy this video!
    Wishing you all the best!
    Your "Captain" Joe
BIG THANK to the DFS for their permission allowing to fly with my drone over their VORs ! Highly appreciated!

How would turbofans cope with mach 2 flight? What about the stress on the engines? How hard the engines work after achieving supersonic speeds would be related to how efficient Overture's airframe is (I think Concorde can maintain mach 2 flight without using the afterburners), correct?

Without forgetting that Mentour flies for Ryanair and Joe made a few allusions about that less desirable company.

Several manufacturers do indeed make flight-tested receivers capable of using signals from multiple constellations. They are generally sold as GNSS (Global Navigation Satelite System) receivers as that is the standard term for any satellite navigation system providing global coverage. Such multi-constellation systems not only benefit from redundancy but can provide superior accuracy in general with more data it's possible to solve for the position at higher precision with the same confidence threshold. This is simply due to the fact that there are a bunch of statistical techniques to detect, quantify and even filter out random noise in ordered data, and these work better the more data points they have to work with. The satellite signals are ordered data about which precisely the sorts of assumptions needed to make those techniques work can be made (Basically these techniques rely on the data having known internal dependencies which satellite navigation data signals do all times are related by the physical constant c for example).

He labeled it wrong on the right, but he did say "VOR TACAN symbol" or VORTAC, which for military aircraft, can just be used as a typical TACAN station. The VORTAC symbol looks more similar to a TACAN symbol than the other VOR symbols because all a VORTAC station is is a TACAN station with VOR bearing capabilities.

You can still become an aeronautical engineer if you work for an aerospace company! An electrical engineer is a aeronautical engineer if he/she works with aircraft. In fact, getting an electrical/mechanical degree is generally more recommended than an aerospace degree as it is broader and allows you to find work in more places.
