Finally I finished the drum sander. It worked quite well. Very smooth.

You certainly have made good use of that gear cutting thing a ma doey. Very impressive. The rest of us would just have to do with scrap bicycle chain and sprockets. Your build and theory is excellent with the two feed rollers. Always enjoy seeing workable shop equipment.

I mean... it's cool and all, but why not connect those gears to the motor with a ratio to push it through slower than the motor is spinning? Seems weird to rely on mechanical motion when using electricity already.

How about this: Reduce the crank wheel diameter. Put teath on it. extend the sander shaft and put a small gear on it. Auto feed!

What size motor do you have powering the drum? For 500cm I would assume it is pretty big.

Hi, I love your design. It changed how I am going to build mine. I have a few questions.
Does the rollers create snipes at the end of the piece like it does on a planer?
What's the maximum width of the pieces you can sand with it?
The plans doesn't seem to be available on your etsy anymore?

No the rollers does not create snipes, because the moving part is the table and not the rollers. We only get snipes in the planers that the moving part is the rollers.
The maximum width is about 50 cm.
the plans were not as good as I wanted them to be, so I took them out.

u made those gears, so why u didn't use the motor power for feed rollers as well??? just like thicknesser ?
Because I could not control the speed.
of course u can length of a circle = 2*pi*r also velocity = distance / time since the time and pi are constant the only parameter that affect velocity is the r which is the radius of the gears for example if u want u r feeder speed to be 1/3 of the drum the gear radius should be 3 times bigger u just need to think how fast u usually need and make the gear for it, for speed adjustments u dont need to make lots of gears instead of changing the feeder speed u can make u r drumer multi speed

But, sometimes with the same board you need to change the speed of the rollers. I do this by ear. That is why I prefer to drag the boards manually. Anyway it is a machine with limitations, of course
right now im pretty busy with a kitchen cabinet but i feel i need on so im researching in spare times, by the way i liked two things here, 1. using those springs with feeders 2. using gears for thickness adjustment thank you for sharing

Why are you so PRECISE in measuring your wood? I could understand that if it were different metals. BUT WOOD???
because the accuracy of the machine is reflected directly in the quality of the furniture
The accuracy is reflected to the maker. In other words it's the human that fits the wood into what ever you are building. The machines are only the means of that. However you can never get the accuracy of matching the wood grains together no matter how accurate the machine is.
