my brother has a tesla model Y and in my opinion it is sweet in the sense that it is fast as far as take off but from what I can tell the build quality is very poor considering what he paid for the car and 2 weeks into having it he had to bring it in for warranty because they were still installing known bad sensors into the cars for the heat and cooling system even after they came out with a new sensor to fix the problem
Why didn't you get a MT?
Scotty I got a problem I can't figure out. I wanted to ask you and see what you thought
Now we got to check out that Corolla Hybrid...My wife wants to get an electric but I told her we might need to wait and start with leasing a new Hybrid instead like the Toyota Corolla Hybrid
If I were ever looking at 2 cars of the same model, I would not get the one with the sunroof unless it was substantially cheaper for the same or better condition
From what I can see, the '22 Corolla is about the same size and weight as the all time great '92 to '96 Camry, but it's 4 cylinder engine delivers 10 additional MPGs
Car models generally get bigger when a new one is released. It’s said they get bigger as their customers get bigger.
The Corolla used to be the smallest Toyota sold till it started getting bigger. So Toyota brought out the Starlet and then the Yaris.
@@kdegraa I feel like it has to do with safety upgrades mostly and making a quiter smoother ride, I have a 2020 corolla se and a 2003 camry and as you said they are basically the same exact size
@@one-to-one-ratio which one do you like better? Camry or corolla?
@Freedomfighterdon’tfuckwithme Holy crap! Incredible. 95 Camry?
@@kdegraa Yeah, their customers have certainly gotten fatter... I mean bigger. Maybe that's the real reason the masses prefer a 1/2 ton truck/suv, something that can handle the fleshy load without bottoming out.
My first car when I was 17 was a 1994 Corolla. I can attest that thing was a tank. Growing up on the streets of Mobile,AL we put that thing through absolute hell. I ran it out of gas several times and it always started back up again and again eventually getting me to a station. I even coasted in a few times. Hopped curbs, got t boned, on road, off road, even lost it downtown for a few weeks. The damn thing wouldn’t die.
how did u lose it 🤣
I have the 2021 Corolla SE and I find it’s quite the car! The 2 tone interior, handling and acceleration are very good for the price. It could be quieter but it’s not too bad. It’s comfortable and roomy for 2 old folks and pretty great gas mileage. As for looks, they did a great job. It’s paid for and a keeper!
I drove a 2021 Corolla for a couple of weeks as a loaner for my RAV4 which was being fixed after I was rear-ended.
I was impressed by the ride quality of the Corolla. Wouldn't have thought that it would be so well-dampered and smooth, but it was. Amazing for an "economy" car.
The standard non-Apex Corolla is plush. Too plush for my tastes, really.
The features of the Camry got slowly implemented in the Corolla. That's why the improvement.
My newly acquired 95 Corolla rides like a mini Camry.
It better drive good if it cost over 23,000.
it does ride noce, my mom has one and i drove it for a little, and men does it drive great, im talking about everything, from the smooth steering wheel, quiet engine and trans, good and smooth acceleration, and quiet cabin. the corolla for what it is, is a great sedan.
I had a 2009 Toyota Corolla for 6 years and totaled it a month ago….I was so impressed with it I just bought another last night!!! It’s a 2014 Corolla in great condition! Charcoal gray, love it!!! Toyotas are great cars with high manufacturing standards!!!
I bought the XSE trim last year and have loved it. I love the look of it and I expect it to get at least 300,000 miles out of it. 10/10 would recommend.
Guy who is single, picking up girls with a Corolla. Man have times changed.🤣🤣
Man watchu mean they the best most reliable cars😂😂🤣
For sure you can’t pick up thots no matter what 💀
Smart girl
You going to be spending money on fixing your fancy car I'm going to be saving money to put my kids in college.
Yeah the girls go wild when I show them my 62 MPG.
He just blessed this particular car 👍
Bought a '22 Corolla XSE hatchback in flame blue back in May. Comfortable and smooth daily driver, love it!
I’m loving my 2022 Toyota Corolla hatchback too!!
My review on a 2021 corolla SE I bought new.
Great vehicle, rides very well. My mpg goes from 38 mpg combined city and highway in winter to 44 combined city/highway in the summer. I also drive conservatively, so keep that in mind. The oil is easy to change (no paper filter, easy access to drain pan) but do NOT trust a 10000 mile oil change, I'd recommend 6500 to 8500 miles as after that the oil is jet black-I want my engine to last 500,000 miles. Trunk is deceptively roomy, I cam put a full sized bicycle in there and shut the door. No electric issues, and stupid car warnings can be shut off manually. It also has some getup and go, but I wouldn't call it a corvette. Would recommend. Sunroofs are stupid, that's the one thing I would take out if I could.
I like sunroofs and glad that the manual SE came with one, but there's no more manual SE for 2023.
@@captinbeyond thank god it doesn't have that "feature". It would have been a deal breaker for me.
@@captinbeyond I did a little looking online and it looks like there is an auto-shutoff feature, but it will only shut the engine off after 30 minutes of idle operation. I haven't had this issue.
I saw one of the new Corolla hatchbacks in traffic recently. Good looking car!
I bought a 2020 corolla SE blue color.Its a great commuter car.Simple and practical especially nowadays.🤙🏽
Great choice !
Is it better than the SE?
@@montyi8 my corolla model is SE.If you wana go above that trim get the XSE.I heard the new corolla with the SE,XSE will have a hybrid engine.
@@montyi8 Apex is more on looks with aggresive suspension.I think you have to pay more for that model.Regular SE model is good enough
Sharp looking car. I don't remember ever hearing Scotty talk this fast 4:37. He must be really excited about this Toyota Corolla. 😲😲😲
Meh. A car is a car. Even the luxury cars get boring when you get used to them. Then you're looking for the next big thing and even THAT will get boring.
If you find a good car, decent looking, good shape, take it. To me there's nothing more exciting than reliability so I don't have to deal with the "excitement" of pissing my money away on repairs!! Saving money!! That's what I call EXCITEMENT!!👍😄
So happy, got mine last month and rides like a dream, like my last 3 Corollas :)
Love what ya do buddy :)
Cheers, from Canada
4:39 Glad I'm not the only one who thinks sun roofs are the most unnecessary feature on a car.
@Dedsiika it decreases car lifespan over decades
@@Blakecryderman7244 And literally all the negatives that Scotty says, especially the potential of it being a safety hazard.
Someone said, "why put a hole in a perfectly good roof?" I agree!
Sunroofs also raise your center of gravity which is the last thing you want if good handling is your goal.
True that! Everyone I had leaked.
I absolutely love my 2022 Toyota Corolla hatchback. Fun to drive, comfortable and amazing on gas mileage. Did a little trip on rural roads driving it nicely and got 50MPG from this 2.0L engine, Seriously! Those are pretty much hybrid numbers.

It's funny that this video popped up on my CZcams, I just picked up a 2021 SE APEX just last week, love the car so far, and, I was lucky enough to get it with the 6 speed manual transmission which is very light, I kind of wish it was a tad heavier. And thanks for the thumbs up from Scott. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside 😀
Great review Scotty. Couldn’t agree more. I bought a 2022 corolla L with 6 speed Manuel. Great car. 1.8L with an old school e-brake. Love this car.

I love my apex. I bought it brand new in 2021, mine is limited edition tho, blacked out version only 6,000 made. Rides nice, it’s a nice stiff ride with the sports tuned suspension. I can attest to the 35mpg on the highway that’s exactly what I get. I was SO HAPPY I bought it.
I have a 2017 Corolla SE and I think I would miss the hand break because it’s really fun putting it in sport mode and spinning around on the ice in the winter
I rang that bell! Recently I bought a 2021 Corolla Hybrid Hatchback. It's a great car. :)

My wife has a 2020 Corolla SE with the 2.0 liter and it has a sporty look, especially the wheels. Handles like a sports car, but does have a rough ride. She averages 36 mpg, but I’ve gotten 42 mpg on some 30 mile trips when I drive it. She did have the dealer install Katzkin leather when she bought it new and it feels high quality… not cheap.
I bought a 2020 Corolla Nightshade Hatchback a few years ago and it's been a fantastic vehicle. It is super fun to drive and reliable as hell. Love it. This Apex reminds me of that vehicle.
Just picked up my new 2022 Toyota Corolla hatchback. Amazing car! Super fun and amazing gas mileage. Checks all the boxes for me.

The Hybrid version is getting a refresh in a sorts for 2023, and will offer the same 169 HP, will have 5 available trims, and will also offer AWD. Would honestly consider an XSE or SE AWD Hybrid with the way gas prices are. The 2022 only offering the LE trim kills the Hybrid imo.
My girl has ‘15 Corolla. 140,000Mi on the dash never had an issue, fluid changes, breaks, tires & some wipers have needed to be replaced as usual. Great, reliable cars. Might need to replace a CV Axle soon tho but when you live in Northern PA you can expect those things
Always love watching a Scotty vid 🎉
I can tell those head lights are expensive to replace.
A set of those probably cost more than what i payed for my used '99 car.
@DeeDee I prefer older cars. People whine about them being unsafe, well, I got a reliable safe model, so there’s no problem at all. What kind of 99’ car do you have?

I got the se nightshade edition hatchback, made in japan, idk if the sedans are. I like it but the low profile tires are more challenging to drive on the road especially now with all the construction going on, already dinged up a rim but having a black paint marker in glove compartment helps hide it.
Also, scotty keeps talking about the fancier corolla but the apex is supposedly the fancy corolla. they discontinued apex for 2023.
I also don't think he paid 27k for it, he just didn't want to get shamed by scotty, these go for 31k and up plus tax.
My 2022 se nightshade was made in Japan, wanted the hatchback but no new only one new sedan on the lot
I've never been a fan of Corollas, but that one looks awesome.
They all look like this minus the black emblems…
awesome 4 door?
@@RRLV434 you realize theres different generations of corollas... right? They dont all look like this
I just bought a used 2021 se black. No sunroof. Its nice! Sporty and practical!
Thanks scotty for the review!
Got my 22 Corolla LE few months ago and I really love it.
The 2017 and earlier Corolla SE was really rough. The 2018 SE/XSE and later is much better, because Toyota went from a torsion bar to a multilink on the rear axle. My 2020 averaged 40.0 MPG, often hitting 43 to 44 MPG on the highway. Drive safely and sanely, and you'll get way better than the rated 35 MPG. Avoid the Corolla versions with the 1.8 liter engine. It's underpowered, and revs a lot, just to make a little power. Think the Corolla is boring? Fine, buy an unreliable car, and you'll get excitement aplenty - when you're presented with repair bill after repair bill. And Scotty, I loved the sunroof. I loved having it open early in the morning and late in the evening. My Camry doesn't have a sunroof, and I really miss it. To each his own...
I am very hopeful to get a Toyota Corolla, but as a Touring Sports.
I live in Europe, and they’re very popular here. Toyota sold 74,000+ units of the Corolla Touring Sports in Europe last year. There’s also a GR Sport trim which looks great.
Very nice cars very easy and nice drive, punchy acceleration, loads of gadgets and build quality really good
@@willtaylor6112 The good thing about the Corolla Touring Sports is that they’re very practical. They even have a larger trunk than the Corolla Cross.
They screwed us in America by not selling the touring here
@@manygatos885 Quite a big shame the Touring Sports isn’t available in the states, but Americans aren’t really big on wagons anyways.
I just got the new 2022 SE 6 Speed hatch back manual and I get 45mpg on the highway on cruise control. From NH to Boston. Got it 2 weeks ago.

What i really want to see is the the gr corolla
Reminds me of my 04 MR2- common 1.8L 4, 6 speed manual (upgraded from the 5), decent power but not what you would call fast, Toyota reliability and if it’s nice in the evening and I want the roof down, just put it down. I agree sunroofs in hot climates rarely if ever get opened.
Yuck

I got a Mini Cooper JCW and a Mercedes SLK 320. The Mini rides rough off the freeway and the Mercedes rides smooth on all road surfaces. Scotty, is so correct about suspension systems.
That’s comparing two different cars, one with a sports tuned suspension and one with a luxury tuned suspension. Different cars for different purposes.
They look great!
Scotty any thoughts on the wheels falling off of the new Toyota EV?
That new Toyota EV looked like a poor design to begin with.
@CAR LOVER I bet he’ll talk about that in one of his evening presentations like he always does. Even he does admit, Toyota quality is slipping
@@Blakecryderman7244 imo every manufacturer are slipping in quality to push product out.
I've always driven Toyotas until the wheels fall off- my guess is these don't last as long?
It’s just the hubcaps, it has nothing to do with reliability.
I really love my 2020 Toyota corolla it rides great and I think it even looks great front end looks similar to the corolla in this video my 2020 also has the 2.0L and the sport mode the only thing I do not like about my 2020 is the synthetic shifting they have programmed into the computer my corolla has a CVT Transmission. I wish there was a way to turn off the synthetic sifting
Shame the 2 litre hybrid never made it over there in the Toyota products, it really suits the Corolla & C-HR
My 2020 has 43,000 miles, so far so good

Love my 2017 Corolla SE.....tough car. Long living car.... ❤ Toyota quality = #1
Gee Scotty when I saw the header "I Finally Got One.." I thought you were talking GR Corolla!
I think you can still get base L trim with the mechanical parking brake and 1.8. Maybe no longer in 2023 Y?
Problem there, is with the 15" wheels the steering can be too light and twitchy.
The Apex could be more of a lease-end
nightmare if those fancy wheels and lower flanges get scrapped. Then you'd really hate the wife...
Wonder how much those black out badges are if peeled?
This would be really cool with a stick shift
LOL the sun roof part. 😂😂😂
I just picked up a new 2022 SE in ruby red at MSRP of $25,700. I had to put $500 down and waited a month. It also came from Japan, got real lucky with that. If the VIN starts with a J it's Japan, if it starts with a 5 it's Mississippi.
Scotty coming in clutch with the relationship advice. Great points.
I loved my 2016 Corrola
I gave it to my son for graduation so he can go to University.
The old boring front ends looked so much better than the ones of today. That goes for Camrys, too.
Hey Scotty I've got a couple questions
1. what's your opinion on the Yamaha fz08 / Fazer 8 motorcycle. I believe this is a well-built machine for the times we are going into and would like some advice
2. I drive an 04 Toyota 4runner with a rusty frame, I'm getting it welded and fixed, and it's a gas hog, and wondering if I should keep it. I'm torn between leasing a new ford maverick ( hybrid engine) or buying an old Toyota. I just need a point a to point b that will survive Michigan winters with good gas mileage (college kid)
I have a 2019 Corolla XSE hatchback. The ride is rough but I expected that. Absolutely LOVE the car and 38-40mpg. BUT there is one major flaw in my opinion with the moonstone (off-white) interior like the one you drove. The flat dash angle under both driver's and passengers side air vents along with the light color interior creates a very dangerous reflection in the side mirrors on a sunny day. You really have to trust the blind spot monitoring system and physically look behind before switching lanes. Anyone else notice this?
I wonder if you got your windows tinted if it would cut down the glare? and it will make car look better.
I do, the positioning of the seat is in a way that the beam between the driver and rear door makes it difficult to see a vehicle, at least in comparison to my old Corolla.
@@hotrod5853 Yes. Windows are tinted. No help.
I might be in the minority, but I really like the Corolla sedan, more so than the hatch. Such a shame they don't come in manual.

I can't wait for the GR Corolla to come out, 3 cylinder turbo making 300hp. Might not get great mpg and like Scotty says turbos are the killers of gas engines but, it's a Toyota and fingers crossed it'll be a good one.

Sunroofs... because automakers stopped making cigarette windows. You remember: those triangular swivel-latch deals you could flick ashes out of and it didn't blow back in your face.
Anyway, I'm with you Scotty: I do not want ANY vehicle sunroof equipped - annoyance and trouble awaits.
In the UK we used to call them quaterlights
I agree too! Also, from a handling perspective, sunroofs raise your center of gravity, causing more body roll.
Amen to that. The worst sunroofs of all are the "panoramic" sunroofs that are standard on some cars such as the Tesla.
Nothing wakes you up in the morning like having a pint of cold water dumped on your head because it rained overnight and you have a leaking sunroof.
There is literally no reason for a sunroof in 2022. If I wanted extra air I'd buy a convertible

But to be honest, the CVT makes me nervous. Even Infinity ditched it.
Some of them are built really well and some aren’t. My mom had a 2014 Sentra with the CVT and it went out around Christmas of 2020 at 95,000 miles. Those weren’t any good. Fortunately, our credit union gave us a power train warranty the year before and covered all of the $3,500 bill. So they still have it lmao the Ford Fivehundred CVTs were really good too apparently, but they were slow as Hell. So I’d just wait a while to see if it’s any good for a particular car. Me personally though, I like regular manuals or planetary gear autos. And dual clutch transmissions too, as long as they’re well made.
It's really just Nissan CVTs.... ALL of them.
Toyota and Honda cvts are a pretty safe bet.
Toyota CVTs are very reliable. Aisin built. They are used in Corollas all around the world, Asia, Africa wherever harshest environments and with little maintenance. Yet these transmissions go without problems for hundreds of thousands of miles. Plus these newer Corollas have a physical launch gear so even less wear and tear on the cvt. Don't be so paranoid.
@@bradyakubovic2550 would even vouch for a 10th gen civic cvt. One of my family got those with 200,000 miles and the car has been beaten like crazy. Looks like trash outside but the engine and transmission go without a hitch. I was actually surprised when I asked to start it to see if it made any clunking noises or the transmission slipped but there was none. So yeah, Hondas and Toyota's. Very reliable and a safe bet.
To Me, it doesn’t matter if it’s zippy or not. The Corolla is still a good car.

I agree with you about the sun roof being useless.
Just cuz it's a Corolla doesn't mean it's going to go 400,000 mi. I really highly doubt that because my problem is it's still a late model baby. It's still a new car. I don't care if that's a Toyota badge or a Fiat badge. The things got direct injection, low tension rings. It runs on 0w 16. I'm sorry but only time will tell if they can still last as long as they used to because we don't know yet. We haven't got enough time under the belt of those dynamic force engines yet... Now if the computer can adjust for a down GDI system and allow it to just run off the port injection in the case of a failure, that'd be awesome cuz you know the GDI going to fail first.... theoretically
My uncle had one of those 2nd gen Suzuki jeeps, they produced them for decades before discontinuing it
It got replaced by the Vitara in 2005 where I live but in some places like India they produced those up until 2018.
It might only have a 1.0L engine that makes 40-something horsepower and it rides like a wheelbarrow, but those things were dead reliable like the Suzuki carry, it's something you won't find in modern jeeps.
The camera footage you took while inside the car is terrible yet hilarious so I still watched
I like cvt a little. My mom's 17 versa gets up pretty cool. She also has the 12 rogue, e I guess I'm gonna be doing cvt nissan trans. The manual looks pretty easy unless it's a borg warner. I haven't seen how to do a automatic yet
Hey Scotty. I just purchased a new Corolla as well. I will be picking mine up from the Toyota Dealership in Huntsville Texas next week. I have a question regarding the oil needed for us down here in this Texas 100 degree weather. Should I use the 0w-16 standard recommended oil or use the 0w-20?
I got one those for my daughter. Cool little car. But traded it in for a Mazda CX-5 carbon. She needed that for where she’ll be going college
The tires are too big with low profile tires, you might need snow tires in the winter but it is a sharp car, its at heart,a true toyota corolla. Shes got a rough ride for a new car but its a great care overall , 170 hp with 2.0 six speed. I like mines and recommend it so far
Scotty you never talk how quite the cabin area is on the vehicles you review.
My Toyota came with crappy Toyo Proxes tires. After I changed them to BF Goodrich Force, the handling was much better. The tires played a major role in upgraded driving handling.
I want one with manual transmission. I got one of these just yesterday. Sharp looking sheet metal lines.
It's raining outside lets bring it in.
Great call
My corolla should be here in two or three more days it’s taking a month to get it from one into the country to the middle of the country must be a real slow train. I would’ve just the hatchback Corolla so hard to find a car these days so glad this one became available. 👍
