This is actually a great detector. I have owned mine for over thirty years and once you understand it's sounds and functions man it is hard to beat. A high dollar machine doesn't mean it's better at all. I own Mine lab's, Garrett's and White's that cost 5 time's what this Bounty Hunter cost's and it finds just as much if not more then the expensive one's do. People don't know how to use them right so they think it's a piece of junk and spend a fortune on an other one. I have bought and sold some of my detectors but I still have my Bounty Hunter. It's great. Just found a Morgan silver dollar with it 2 weeks ago minted in 1900 where an old pavilion burnt down near a lake in the 70's.
Cool... I got a Bounty Hunter Quick Draw 2 for 50 bucks at a pawn shop, and it's nearly identical to this machine. I've taken it out a few times, and this has given me hints that I may not have found out on my own.
The Discovery 3000 (63-3012) doesn't have the depth scale where as the (63-3015) which is actually the Land Star does. The Discovery 3000 has the on/off/volume control in the place of the Land Star's Ground Balance adjustment. The Land Star's on/off switch is part of the Sensitivity control. The Discovery 3000 does not have a Ground Balance adjustment knob. The Land Star is always at full volume, use headphones with volume adjustments to control if required. So, there are actually several differences between them. The (63-3015) came out about 2001 for a couple of years, the Discovery 3000 was prior to it.
I have the 63-3015 I got from Goodwill for $40 in box, the foam in the battery compartment indicates it's probably never even been powered on before me!

(thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn
That music would be appropiate on an army recruiting commercial,anyhow I had that detector for a while its okay,it air tests great but didnt find any real oldsters with it but found a clad dime in a park in hard dry soil at 8-9 inches I kid you not,what a bummer
The problem with these as with the similar Time Ranger and Camo are not that they don't go deep but the fact that they are sooooo slowww. Their response/recovery speed is too slow.for such a versatile detector as these. They are being overshadowed and outmoded by the newer Euro-style high-speed i.d. detectors from Bounty Hunter and Teknetics like the Teknetics Eurotech Pro. If the Land and Time Rangers were as quick, they would undoubtedly be more popular. Why Bounty Hunter didn't design high response time/recovery speed to individual targets next to each other into these models is a mystery to me. George Payne designed the tones (and) a high speed detector when he designed the Treasure Baron brand which is the platform for (all) of the later Big Bud Pros, Tracker series, Time Ranger, Land Star, etc. Only the mid-price Teknetics and $200+ Bounty Hunters(only some models from both brands) have that high speed feature but not the LandStar or Time Ranger. The little Bounty Hunter VLF/Gold Digger are very lively though.
I live very close to the beach here in N.C and I just bought the Lamdstar combo and when I was Metal detecting on the beach the metal detector was just going off everytime moved it left to right even a foot or 2 from the sand.?
I own a White's VX3 and I just bought a BH Land Star.Anyone reading this might say why am I going down to a BH.There's a video here on youtube from a person in Poland using a Land Star with a NEL 12X13 search coil from Russia.Well,I bought that coil on ebay and had it shipped from Russia to me.Ever hear the phrase "metal detector on steroids"?Well that's what I have now.So far my VX3 hasn't beaten it.It is amazing in salt water and beach.It will hit quarter at 10inches on the beach.
I had a new one. 2024. It was so noisy I couldn’t use it. And the arrow jumped all over. I’ve had at least 10 bounty hunters. Some was the same machine with a different faceplate.This was the most expensive and the worst one. I watched this video before I bought it. Maybe I had a Dud. You touch the ground and it beeps. My other detractors don’t do that. I called them and talk to an extremely rude and short lady. That should be working for the military or a tax collector.. a Company can’t have something like that answering the phone. There’s a lot better machines for the price of this one. Simplex and Minelab. I do like the bounty hunter. But there is a detector competition and 2 of the big names is battling. Take advantage of getting a Modern quality detector for the same price as this brand.
i was disappointed the video didnt go more into gold and silver. I was pleased to see it demonstrated that it CAN detect those small nuggets.
I dialed mine in with this video, I got this detector from my father in law who used it once, lost instructions, and couldn’t remember how it worked!
