  • This is part one of a series to help new users with the V3i. I'm am not claiming to be the ultimate authority on the V3i, but I have had a lot of success with the machine, and did a lot of research. Thanks for checking it out, and happy hunting!

The v3i is a very different type of technology. I've owned my v3i four years now and still feel substantially inferior to what it can do with it . I can't seem to make it my go to detector. I'm not blaming the machine I'm more or less frustrated with ability to learn it properly. This machine is far more advanced than even my CTX3030. I hope soon I will master it . Thank you for your videos. Big Mex Detects from central California

I don't even have a V3i yet. So I can't yet do any hands on. Will this machine work in trashy parks? Seems hunting speed would be really slow trying to see if a target is alum. or not. I have a old ML Explorer II , it has the two number target ID Ferris/Conductive. I get in a park that's trashy....and it takes me 20 min. to go 15 ft. This machine having a notch discriminator, to me is very important. I like all the info the screens can tell you about a target too. It's #1 on my list.. but also the Nokta Impact... but only because of it's super fast recovery-unmasking ability. It has notch, and 99 tones... but no special screens.
I've watched a few videos on the v3i, yours and others, and it doesn't seem that hard to use. Because of detector laws in Tx.
I'm restricted to parks and school yards, and private property permissions. Detectors are so expensive, I don't want to make the wrong choice. Other bad things to me about the Nokta... being from Turkey... very close to Mid East turmoil, but Nokta is very popular in Europe. All I know for sure... I'm all done with Minelab.

William R. The v3i is a great park machine. With the 3 frequency pinpoint, you'll never dig a zink penny again:) The recovery speed is faster than the Minelabs, but.not as fast as an At Pro or F75. If you run without a ton of discrimination you won't loose your threshold that often. I bought my V3i used and saved a bundle. Still not a cheap machine, but it's my favorite Whites.

Thanks for the great video!!! I have a V3i on the way and these tips are really going to help big time!
Question: If I do a factory reset to restore the factory programs, will it erase the programs the former user put on the machine?

Hey thanks a lot for this video - Very useful!
I am in the UK and have pretty old and mineralized ground (-92 to -93) using the ground probe and looking at phase VDI reading.
V3i runs very hot for UK soil conditions and I do struggle to get depth and sensitivity to very small low conductive targets.
Would you have any ideas how to improve the performance for these type of conditions?
( A good example in the UK of a target I want is a tiny hammered coin, called a 'cut half'. They only register about +9 to + 15 approx on the VDI) They are also only about half the size of your little finger nail! :@) Cheers!

I would try single frequency 22 kHz. I've found some tiny stuff in that frequency. my ground is -94 to - 95. Thanks for watching, and good luck with your detecting!

Tip...when you get your v3i do a MASTER reset all programs..turn on then press and hold MENU and push ON while holding MENU down...should boot into MASTER.. (.dont really need PASWORD hilighted).. even from the factory it could have been tested in Quality Assurance dept. and forgotton to be reset...this is for 1st time users...if it isnt factory set it will leave you totally lost and confusion will ensue...never ever never go into CALIBRATE ....never ever never go into CALIBRATE

My V3i just drained after a hour of hunting. I had the battery charged for like 15 hours.

The battery may have gone bad. You may want to try it out with the AA battery box

Do you happen to have a a decent little tweak for a coin program on the V3I? Im in Dayton Ohio so not sure about the differences in soil but its worth a try. Thanks, loved the video very helpful.

How does the Whites 3vi compare to the Minelab CTX 3030? Which is a better beach detector for the money?

    • @iceviking3
      @iceviking3 Před 6 lety

Both are very good on new england beaches with an fbs unit you can run the big sef 15x18 for coverage with the v3i. Youre using concentric coils so pretty much the super 12 is the largest. But it matches the minelan fbs with pro coil for depth. At least hrre in ma.

      Let's compare a $1,500 detector to a $3,000 detector.

george monkee, the V3i has several large DD coils available including the Detech Ultimate 13” and a 15” SEF.

I love the thought of detecting with an American made detector & I have owned many White's detectors . But they leave way too much room for user error in setting up the detector ! If White's made a detector like the V3i or Vx3 that was more user friendly .....That didn't have soooooo many tweeking possibilities ....I could become hooked on White's again .... But as it is , I'd rather spend the same money and spend it on a foreign made that goes shallower on gold , deeper on silver , and is much simpler to operate ....Such as an Aussie made Minelab Etrac for the same $$$$ . I have made over 1,000 silver coin finds over the last 8 years with it & now that the silver coins have dried up ....I am starting to find gold jewellry with it (After some program tweets) as well . Bye the way .....I noticed that I have commented on many more of your videos than you have commenbted on mine .....Just an observation .

I know what you're saying about all the settings. Your etrac is an awesome unit. I really enjoyed mine and regret selling it at times. It was very hot on deep silver. I love your vids and should participate more. Sorry about that. Its not intentional. I think I'm trying to keep up with too many guys. I try and sub back all the new guys, and seem to get lost in a flood of videos. Lol . I admire your success a great deal. I really consider you one of the founders of detecting on CZcams. Watching you guys was a big inspiration for me to get started. Thanks Dave:)
