Donna Summer Special - Thirties Medley

This special for ABC-TV underwent seven re-edits prior to the final version completed just before its Sunday night airing. All along, as editor for this event, I had pushed to include the "30s Medley" which I felt carried so much production value. I had been trumped until the last minute. The suits watched all the takes and I pleaded once more and was granted my request. Don Mischer shot this segment so beautifully that it practically put itself together! This copy is from the 2" quadraplex master to my 3/4" personal copy. Enjoy!

I grew up with his songs, pass childhood, adolescence! and reached the midlife still hear their songs! I would loved to have seen Donna do an entire 1930s to 1940s themed live show. She certainly had the vocal and acting chops to pull it off.

the visual concept created for her in this clip worked great. I always thought she had an impresive voice but lacked a visual direction, specially in the 80´s, where stunning vocal performances were ruined by horrible outfits and stage designs. In this clip we can see how bright she can be when she surrounds herself by the right people. A gem. Thanks for uploading your clips. I REALLY appreciate your efforf!

thanks for the upload! There hasn't been a day since her passing that I haven't thought about her or somethings happened to make me think about her. I loved when she did this on her Live and More album. She proved time and time again that she was just more than dance music, I love her ballads just as much as I do her dance songs.

Sadly, Ms. Summer died May 17, 2012. Lung Cancer....I was always so impressed with her voice...she always took care of her gift (mostly)...and kept it, her whole life.

I'm in ecstasy! I heard there was a TV special but I never seen it. How come the special isn't released on DVD? Doesn't this special include many of the numbers (like this one) that Donna performed for the Universal Amphitheater concert which was on the Live & More album?
