- PLEASE VIEW IN 480p! Segment five from the 1980 ABC-TV "Donna Summer Special". Remember, this is before MTV debuted. "Sunset People" and "Bad Girls" (essentially music videos) are presented back to back in this segment. Here's the trivia: the girl on the lamp-post in "Sunset" is Donna's sister. The nun who shakes her head in disapproval is Donna's manager, Susan Munao. On the transition to "Bad Girls", that's me on the video switcher during editing creating the "Don't Walk" sign flashing to the beat of the music. Again, for you die-hard fans, it's a shame that the producers won't allow a DVD be made of this special . . . there are stereo tracks existing for everything. But for now, you won't find a better quality copy anywhere. This is from the ¾" personal copy made while protection copies were being struck. Enjoy!
RIP Donna. One of the true greats, an innovator and a great laugh as well.
This TV special and the 1978 LIVE AND MORE concert should be released on DVD!

Loved the segment on Bad Girls. Among those bad girls was Twiggy. A watcted that special and enjoyed it. Donna Summer would be truly missed.

I totally agree with you... it´s a shame that the producers doesn´t allow a DVD reléase of this special... despite the lack of original material from her... I own the Laser Disc of her 1983 concert and the Endless Summer VHS, but this material is from her great days and it´s better for me! Thanks for posting!

Haha, I nearly missed Twiggy among the 'Bad Girls'! And the big lady was Pat Ast, a Warhol superstar and friend and assistant of the designer Halston who reportedly beat her classmate Barbra Streisand in a high school singing contest!

that's impressive you went to make an attempt to get this released. Barbara Eden has said so many times that you just don't see these variety shows anymore which has proved to be timeless and quite a charm. Did the producers give you any reasons?

@ArgoWho Yep it does. Your job sounds really cool. How many people can say they actually met all 4 members of ABBA and watched them perform live up close. Considering the view on public performances now, that was definitely a once in a life time experience. Did you ever get a chance to find other footage of the Olivia special?

We're not getting reasons as to why the producers and ABC won;t release this... they must be telling you more than "No". Robert Guillome (sp) must have an estate that would be involved, as well as Donna's estate, now... Who is the copyright holder? I'm reminded of Liza releasing her 1972 "Liza With A Z" television special on DVD... all I know is, someone could be making money off this, but we get to see it in sections for free here!
