I remember being a kid and hearing this on casey kasem in 1984.....it was at #21.I waited with my tape casette ready to record...remeber doing that!?.......this song has never left me. Thank you Donna! Thinking of you ❤
I was born in June1967 in Portugal and raised as a tipical portuguese but music from 60's, 70's, 80's 90's, movies and spirituality I look from states... thank you.
Perhaps you ask a Cuban about Donna Summer and no one will be able to answer you better than me. I grew up dancing to her songs, it was the first thing I danced just like Bony M. Today I listen to her and I feel like a teenager again. Her departure hurt me and even living in Naples Florida I could not meet her, but I will always carry her in my heart.
before there was choreography and stage shows with 20 backup dancers..there were voices. nothing but people who could sing. Donna is the perfect example of this.
This was a hell of great song. Donna Summers vocals were pitch perfect and she didn't even need back up dancers or a pitch correcting mike or gimmick. She was pure talent and had an amazing voice that got better and better and stronger. She will always be the queen not just disco but of all yondras of music. May you rest in peace and sing with the angels in heaven. You will always be missed but never forgotten with the music legacy and the songs that you left behind for generations to enjoy and show them what a force of nature vocally that you were. Singers today can't even come close enough to take your title of Queen. I grew up with your music and your amazing voice. You brought me many happy moments in when I was down your music and your voice always lifted me up. May the younger generations appreciate your music and musical legacy. We will never ever see another Donna Summer in this life time. When it's my time to go I want to go with your music playing full blast in the background. I have always been a huge fan. From the very first note and song to the last. May God watch and bless your husband and your 3 daughters. May you continue to watch over your family and I hope that you are watching over me and give me inspiration like when you were alive. We will always love ❤️ you and never let your music or legacy disappear from our hearts and from our minds and memories of all the great music and your voice which truly was a real gift from God. Love you always today and forever
I had forgotten how lovely this video is. Well done, my diva. Couldn't help but to sing along and soar with you on the vocals. When I sing with Donna, I am a diva, too. When I listen to your music all the ugliness goes away. That is your true legacy. Carry on! Sweet chanteuse of an era never to be forgotten.
Unmistakable vocals. She sang her heart out and made her golden mark on the American music scene, and the international arena. And then she like so many others--is gone. Her music thankfully lives on long past her. Donna Summer: the best of the best!
I was a teenager in Kansas. Everyone listened to country or rock. I listened to Donna, the Pointer Sisters, Natalie Cole.....I bless this woman for her music...and being a gay man...well....I will leave it at that.
Jeff Lawrence Donna came to visit us wounded Marines at the VA twice before she passed away. She actually would REALLY listen and funny you mentioned Natalie Cole. She came with her the first time, and many of those young Marines had NO CLUE who these ladies were. Natalie was the TALLEST female singer I have ever seen, and I’m 6’1. I looked her in the face with ease. The Pointer sisters invited us to meet them when they came into town at their concert. I remember this story, their manager, who was a lesbian, and open about it, her last name was GLASSCOCK. Oh the IRONY huh???
So glad you had this music to cling to. I was 16 when this song came out in 1984. Summertime to be exact. I LOVE this song...esp the train whistle at the end.
"There goes my baby Moving on down the line Wonder where Wonder where Wonder where he is bound" Donna's interpretation of this song is simply and purely HEAVEN!
I agree. I love how she added her own additional lyrics to this classic song. Much better than the Drifters one and a half minute version. My opinion. Donna really owns this song and she slayed it!! Love it!
OKAY. SHE IS KNOWN AS THE QUEEN OF DISCO. But This Song Shows Everyone Else What She Was Really Capable Of. This Is AWESOME. Donna...You Are The QUEEN OF POP!! You Have My Heart. You...Are My Baby.
WE LOST AN ICON OF MUSIC. I STILL CANNOT BELIEVE DONNA IS GONE FROM THIS EARTH...ALTHOUGH IN HEAVEN. THIS SONG IS AMAZZZZZZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS A HIT WORLDWIDE, AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN BIGGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw Donna Summer, live, in Nashville at a street festival, must have been 1998...it was at the plaza across from the capital, she had the orchestra behind her...there were just folding chairs. She played a set, and no one was sitting, she moved everyone there, folks were running up Deadrick street (name of street festival was on) to try and see what the comotion was about. She rocked, and had one and all, young and old, singing and dancing, she is beautiful, and has a terrific voice. It was !
MUSICENCYLOPDIA....Thank you for your post... How awful that time was for Donna. Most of us boys believed it was'nt true... but great damage was done. But she rose up. I miss my Donna.... RIP
Been a Donna Summer fan for years ... BUT only discovered this song today as it isn't on "The Journey: The Very Best of Donna Summer" CD. Looooove this!!!!!!! 😍😍😍🙌🏻
One of my favorite songs of all time!!! I miss the 80's! I miss Donna Summer RIP❤️, didn't realize this song was a remake from a old soul classic back then, but I loved it!!!
I haven't looked at this for so long now. It was made in a building on the west side of Macarther park in LA. I'm the guy who she grabs onto at about 1:34, but you better look fast. I was supposed to walk just like everyone else, but Donna came towards me, so I tried to move out of her way. She moved the same direction and we did a little dance, until she grabbed me by the shoulders and moved me to the side. It was totally unrehearsed, which is probably why they chose that "take". It's something that you just can't fake. Donna was so nice to all of the extras. She came out during lunch and spoke to just about all of us. Her sincerity is also something that you just can't fake.
why is it that black female stars were so much more talented in the past. She sounds beautifl on this song. for someone known for her fast songs she sounded amazing vocally on this track. May god bless you Ms summer - you will live on ms lady !!!!
@lance1jcubsfan The forgotten " Greatest Generation" song, circa 1984. Even at the time, as a teenage Donna Summer fan, I saw this as her unabashedly patriotic work--at the tail end of her career--her song has a whole lot going on under the skin. If you look closely, you'll see that her showbiz husband in the video can "pass" for white, which opens up a whole 'nother can of worms for the faithful wife, adding to her agonies, tastefully understated.
Ladonna Gaines aka Donna Summer had a strong powerful voice. Her voice got stronger and more powerful throughout her life and career. I always created music list of all donna summer songs. I would play my donna summer tabes of all her music when I was down. Her voice her music and to hear her powerful soulful voice that seemed to get better and better and stronger as she got older. She never lost her big strong powerful voice and her voice never lost its power. Her voice was definitely a God given voice. She could sing anything from r&b to disco to the blues and even country music. There wasn't anything donna summer couldn't sing. They don't make singers like her anymore. She truly had an amazing voice. Look her up in CZcams and you can see how far away she kept the microphone from her mouth. She had such a great and powerful voice that she could project her amazing voice. Sometimes I think she really didn't need a microphone to sing since her voice was such a powerful instrument that she could project her voice and she had such diversity in her voice that one minute she was using her lower registry and then go to her upper registry vocally with so much precision that truly showed her fans that she was truly a star. Her voice was truly an inspiration. She sang so well and effortlessly that there is not another singer in this age that can sing and have the ability to move people and to feel what emotions she was conveying in any song that she sang. Donna Summer will always be missed loved and remembered and respected for her music her voice and how gracious and humble human being she was. I will always miss you Donna Summer and love you and never forget you. Your music your voice lifted me up and inspired me when ever I was feeling down. You always made my life my feelings and made me feel better and you were my inspiration and made a big difference in my life. You will and always will be more than just Queen of Disco. May you rest in peace here on earth and I hope that you are watching over your family and fans and singing up in heaven brightening every one in heaven with your God given voice. You'll be missed loved but definitely never forgotten. RIP Ladonna Gaines Serdano. You were definitely taken to soon. With tears of sorrow we cry each day. In angel's arms you were carried away. Our memories of love and laughter shall not fade. For inside our hearts you will always stay. REST IN PEACE
...without DOUBT, this is Donna BEST Music Video; the acting (at the intro), was relaxed, natural, & believable...Donna REALLY could have gone into professional Acting!! (0:28) ...the tune reminds me of Rod Stewart's cover of "Some Guys Have All The Luck", but, with SOUL....peaked at #21 Pop, Sept., 1984....
The beginning reminds me of the beginning of FLASHDANCE: WHAT A FEELING? Irene Cara was clearly a great admirer of Ms. Summer. Can't say I blame her one bit. Incredible voice and range.
It’s 2023, and I still can’t believe Donna has been gone all these years. One of the strongest, cleanest, most powerful voices of our generation.
Absolutely! She was criminally underappreciated!
God, I miss that woman...❤️❤️❤️❤️
One of Donna's best hits from the 80's that always seems to be overlooked!
I remember being a kid and hearing this on casey kasem in 1984.....it was at #21.I waited with my tape casette ready to record...remeber doing that!?.......this song has never left me. Thank you Donna! Thinking of you ❤
This is definitely my favorite version of this song. Donna Summer had the most beautiful and amazing voice.
An underrated gem from the 80s! We have lost another magnificent voice...RIP Donna.
This was still her BEST vocals and BEST video. Always touched my heart for some reason, and I NEVER cry for anything.
This one touched my heart too ... I was still young enough to be in-love
I was born in June1967 in Portugal and raised as a tipical portuguese but music from 60's, 70's, 80's 90's, movies and spirituality I look from states... thank you.
Donna is one of the best singers ever in history.
This video proof that Donna would have a great actress if she got the chance. So many talents in this one woman. Glad we had the chance to enjoy her.
Released as a single in the US in July 1984 and in the UK in August 1984.
This song is a true showcase of Donna's R & B chops. Just an outstanding performance of a great song
Donna Summer and her Real Husband made this Video...............Too Cool!
this video also features Donna's husband producer/singer Bruce Sudano . thks for this post!

Choreography to music isn't a new era thing..?
...still dunno why this song bring tears to my eyes even @ 40. Donna's my no 1 diva.

! @ffsteelvol onna was AMAZING IN SO MANY WAYS
Sie war und ist die größte Sängerin und das mit einer Chamäleonstimme.
THE WW 2 BACKGROUND AND DONNA'S VOICE JUST MAKES THIS SONG GREAT!!!
Donna hit #21 in Billboard, 10-13-84. God bless you, friend, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a blessed week! RIP, sister Donna. See you in Heaven!

There is no doubt she had one of the most beautiful voices we ever got the privilege to listen to. This video is touching in so many ways.
I think most people have forgotten that she covered this hit. Not us fans though.
My favorite Donna Summers video. I ❤ this song. I miss her so much🌹
Unmistakable vocals. She sang her heart out and made her golden mark on the American music scene, and the international arena. And then she like so many others--is gone. Her music thankfully lives on long past her. Donna Summer: the best of the best!
I soooo remember this song and video. The summer of 1984. I was addicted to MTV. I LOVED the train whistle in the video.
I was a teenager in Kansas. Everyone listened to country or rock. I listened to Donna, the Pointer Sisters, Natalie Cole.....I bless this woman for her music...and being a gay man...well....I will leave it at that.

I love this song it was an follow up from the drifters song "There goes my baby." Both did an outstanding job.

Thank you Michael Rachel's.
This should have hit number one.....
Miss you.
RIP Donna Summer. I never believed you had become a homophobe. I always knew you were behind us.... So sorry to hear that you are gone....
A song someone played for me when I went to Germany with the Army....

True love Overcomes every obstacle Every time
RIP Donna. YOU are the best...ever.
You can say that again!
This song is so sad!
touching song
Love THIS SONG
That's her hubby Bruce in the video.

Great video!
Decent rendition of a Drifters classic.
RIP Donna RIP Ben E King

Honestly....cold, cold sounding version imo.
Que pena, mais uma estrela se apaga. Os artistas que cresci vendo e ouvindo se vão sem subtitutos à altura. Goodbye, Donna.
excelente tema
Before whitney there was donna.
so few superstars left so sad
I noticed that. Thanks for pointing it out.
