  • @thesmallmyco

    Hi Gary, my lions mane are growing really dense with a smooth surface. Does that mean it’s the opposite problem and I have too much FAE?

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I think too much fae is fine, maybe the temps are too low usually 65F is pefect but if you are patient they should grow out fine it will just take longer. If it’s not the temp maybe the strain is just a denser one? my bears head tends to do that

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  Před 2 lety +1

      It can be many things, I think genetics, too wet of an environment, bacteria/yeast/mold can all be culprits. Id start with a different strain, then reduce moisture slowly then try to do it in an isolated area

    • @fattymcbastard6536
      @fattymcbastard6536 Před rokem

      Too warm and/or too dry perhaps, depending on what you mean exactly by "spongy." Last fall, we had a terrible wild mushroom season here on Vancouver Island due to drought conditions and warm temperatures lasting through most of October. About a week following a sprinkling of rain, I went out to see what I could forage, and found a sizeable cauliflower mushroom unlike any I ever seen before. Instead of the lobes being all tightly wrinkled and tightly packed together, they grew in stretched out, weird wavy flaps that couldn't support their own weight. The conditions were still extremely dry out where I found it- the twigs and branches were snapping under my feet, and the leaf litter was still crumbly dry.
      I'm about to try growing some lion's mane myself, and from all the info I've gathered from these growers, the optimum fruiting temperature is around 16 C, and a relative humidity around 75-90%. Check the humidity of the fruiting chamber, and compare it to the humidity of the air that you're pulling into it. If you find the fruiting chamber is in range, but the air you're supplying is lower (like typical household RH of 40-50% for example), then this indicates that you're drying out the cultures, especially if you know your air exchange is high, and the fruiting chamber is breezy.
