Thank You for the video. It is a pushback to those opportunists who are just selling dreams.

This is a difficult topic indeed for those who wanted to become pilots badly.
However I will quote " Dream
delayed its not a dream denial"
I think it's perfect that young aspiring pilots protect themselves from changing economic environments of Aviation Industry by indeed having some backup plan.
Thank you guys for sharing such important information. 🙏🙏

Good to see you again ... I hope you and your families are healthy ... See, concerning statistics - it is always "healthy" to have a "cautious" approach, especially when they were coming from A) Politics, b) Non-governmental organisations or c) Trade Unions or Lobby groups... Mostly, those organisation use statistics to strengthen their political and/or social messages. Additionally, for my personal point of view a good statistic methodic approach also displays the sources, from which it was aquired, as well as the statistical methods applied... And the last issue is, when old information is sold as something new ... The fact, that one won´t get very far in Aviation, if one just settled on simple pilot training, was also a pretty much common issue in early 2010... Even around this time the major trend in Aviation industry pushed toward a dual training in Aviation - that means Flight training was usually combined with studies like Aerospace Engineering ... Without your recruitment opportunities look rather dull ... very dull ....

Remember BALPA is a UNION with their first priority being their members - ie. existing airline pilots. They will want their members to be the first back into the cockpit as things get back to normal, rather than cheaper new pilots once the left hand seats have been refilled which would probably be the preference of many cash-starved airlines. So an understandable if shortsighted release by BALPA, whose bias I hope is recognised by potential and current students.
Of course, the big integrated schools will probably only use the statistics available to maximise the potential job market.
The truth - as in all these things - is probably somewhere in the middle.
What everyone’s idea of recovery times seem to suggest is that now is the time to go modular if you want to be head of the queue.

I think you're right that the truth lies somewhere in the middle. And it is true that Balpa benefits financially having its members employed. So really good point to make. 👍

Just to reply to one of the questions in the video. BALPA has 10000 members, and there are about 1500 unemployed pilots in the UK, but the unemployed pilots are still BALPA members. Indeed, the pilots who probably need the most help from BALPA are the ones who have been made unemployed. Pilots don't stop being BALPA members if they are made unemployed!
