Intro:
Now, when someone reached out to me about this situation, I will admit, I was not familiar with DanPlan, and in spite of their approximately 2 million strong fanbase, many of my friends were not familiar with their content either, so I sat down and watched a lot of DanPlan. Now I think I have a decent grasp, I will briefly summarise their origins and content, just so people have a grip on how they created such a significant following.
DanPlan as a channel was established in July 2014 by their titular creators: Daniel, and his friend Hosuh, with the first upload coming soon after.
This was the first instalment of their “By the way” series, the video consisted of a slightly crudely drawn character discussing a story told by his youth pastor. Now, the audio could be better, and this video only appears to include Dan himself, but you can definitely see the origins of a great channel in the making, a lot of Hosuh’s creative illustrations enhance Dan’s stories on a comedic basis, and Dan’s outgoing nature makes him an effective storyteller, there was definitely potential here.
However, this series didn’t receive much attention following its initial upload. Animation was in a bit of a lull at that point, and thus it was probably not worth putting too many eggs in that basket. After this DanPlan spent just under a couple years dedicated to gaming content, which was much more popular at the time. These gaming videos weren’t the most unique, though they were often presented more like highlight reels, and used character heads to represent different people talking. Dan was the consistent host of these videos, gaming with a varying roster of guests, such as Anna, Billy, Jay, and of course, Hosuh. However, there was one more character to introduce to this story, that person goes by the name of Stephen.
Stephen was introduced on the 5th of September, 2015, in the upload “Yamete, Titan Senpai”, in which he, and of course, Dan, and Hosuh, played the Attack On Titan tribute game. Like Hosuh, and many of their other friends, they were acquainted through school and college, and for these comrades, this was just a regular gaming session which happened to be uploaded onto CZcams. Stephen was not one of the original members, but he quickly became a recurring guest on the channel as other individuals began to appear less. However, these gaming videos, although enjoyable for those who participated, didn’t set the channel on fire, gaining DanPlan only 50 subscribers. So come May 2016, the “By The Way” series was resumed, but this time, with a slightly different format. ..
Watch the rest of the video for more.
*CREDITS BELOW* Interesting video this one, not sure how I feel but hope you guys enjoy. I had some audio issues (crackling) around time of recording but I think I've sorted them now. I must also apologise to Ann for calling her Anna. They are not the same and I'm sorry for only noticing it now. (Also thanks to anyone who pointed out a rendering error at 1:33:56, I have since edited it out though it may take a bit to process)

I also have to say. I also do relate to this profile, as a tired and sad pan myself.

I find the concept so WEIRD
IF you want to work doing something, you really don't want to start with freebies. Some people would keep that going FOREVER

If anyone has stumbled onto this video and is wondering what Stephen and Hosuh are up to, they have their own channel with their friend Hart. The channel is called Plan3 and they make animation videos about whatever they find fun to make. It is so nice to see them doing well.
so Hosuh never went to the army?
@@helourhi Actually, he did and came back. He showed up in some of Stephen's videos before making a channel with him and their friend Hart.
Oh yea, i saw them do a video with Recreyo, another similar channel
Yeah, I'm glad that channel exist :D
They seem so happy on the new channel too :)
However after returning from the military, hosuh only makes videos with or speaks with Stephan and not dan. Which tells me there is probably a good amount of stuff that stephan said was true. And that after his time in the army hosuh he had thought about it and sided with stephan in the end.
Ngl Plan3 is fire
@@hackercow211yeah i discovered plan3 recently and it made me so happy to see stephen and hosuh back making content together

funny how dan said Stephen wasnt a true part of the channel but the moment he left the channel crashed
Of course the channel crashed after Stephen basically exposed Daniel. If he left peacefully and on mutual agreement, videos would still come out. Hell, even Dan says it himself. There are finished animated videos that'll never see the light of day again because Stephen left.
@@gpollen7712 Yeah but even he left peacefully, the videos are pretty dry without him
@@gpollen7712 If there are finished animated videos, I still hope Dan can post them as long as he has everyone's consent. There was a lot of stuff going behind the scenes besides the whole Stephen x Dan drama. Stephen leaving and exposing Dan should not have caused such a disruption if the other members of the team were willing to be a part of DanPlan after the drama. And yet, for some reason, Daniel isn't posting the videos out of his own will. Not on Stephen for exposing someone for their behavior.
@@gpollen7712 no not because Stephen left. Because Dan is being petty. Stephen said videos with him in it would still come out and Dan said "nah you outted you left so no one should see it"
@@bluedragon8762 he even said that it was ok for him to pay 100 for the videos that still were in the making
Hosuh had easily been my favorite throughout their whole reign, and hearing that he went from earning 50% down to 15%... Genuinely upsetting.
Not trying to make any dispute but Hosuh said he didn’t want any of the channel’s money and wanted that money to be invested into the channel
I think that’s why his earnings changed
@@thepotatochip7974 mhm, this is what has been confirmed ! It’s very sweet of him to offer to do that imo, generally just making the situation even more depressing imo

Hosuh gingerly saying, "People change" says so much. Too bad.
People dont change, they become more of who they are.
Nicolas Balderrama
I don’t know who told you that line of garbage but regular people change.
People only become “who they really are”, if they’re a socio/psychopath.
There are tons of people that were either nice growing up & became horrible people, or they were literal childhood bullies who decided to change their ways. & sometimes people don’t change, they just stay the same. But to say “people don’t change but they reveal who they really are” just seems nonsensical.
@@mayaw.4013 Can you not be shitty about an actual mental illness, thx.
@@mayaw.4013 Hmm not really. Some People tend to hide certain aspects, out of friendship, and sometimes that can change, they let loose, they "change" - even if its traits they always had.
Or you yourself see things, that you dont like, even if they were there, you just didnt noticed it enough - they changed for you.
Change doesnt mean becomming a totally different Person, it can be suble, be because of outside forces, new interesst etc.
Dynamic between People change, your Opinion change.
THATS the essence of "People Change."
I don’t really think “people change” is a bad thing.... like really tho 🤷♀️
I don’t really see it as a negative... is like how Hosuh explain they did back then(meaning both in highschool) and how they did now(and where they’re at now)
He Hosuh said good thing about Dan..... just like compare how Dan was in high school and what he doing then on CZcams or something and Hosuh couldn’t never see himself do things....
(Cause Dan is outgoing(outstanding) and Hosuh is introvert(shy))
Beside Hosuh didn’t say anything bad?????? 🤦♀️
I know Hosuh sound shy but that how he is
“People Change” when Hosuh try to figure out if this is a good word or not cause he need to think about it more to find the correct words
And other people said “Ok” “That Good” it’s good enough 🤷♀️ so Hosuh think this “people change” is alright to use... etc...
Hmm....... e-e
That the way my thought process about this...... whatever Hosuh saying at the same time we can’t understand fully inside Hosuh mind is.... If Hosuh could continue to talk bit more 🤷♀️ maybe we can understand it well...
That pretty much I had to say-
The fact that Dan was dehumanizing and underpaying his friends because “they didn’t own the channel” as if he ever would have gotten big on his own as just some boring dude named Dan lmao
the fact that he was literally no ones favorite
@@kahiraaa 😂
@@kahiraaa Dan was pretty likable in the series, he wasn’t a favorite because his CHARACTER worked best when with others. Don’t resort to petty insults, Dan was wrong(of course) and it’s Stephen’s choice if he wants to forgive him or not; not the viewers.
@@arandomladywithabadsleepsc1748 Though you digress. The point is, nobody was there JUST for Dan.
hey dans can make it in this world. i know what you mean but still
I find it funny how Jay told us that Stephan wanted 20% and not to trust Dan if he says he asked for 33%. Then Dan said that Stephan asked for 33%, I pretty much stopped watching at that point.
I remember when Dan's response dropped because I was literally in school and I was waiting for Dan to lie and say that Stephen wanted 33% and when he did, I was literally completely done with DanPlan.
@@a_really_awkward_queer_person I actually disagree. I find the idea that Jay knew exactly what Dan would say well in advance incredibly suspicious. I'm not taking Dan's side in the whole situation, and I have no real investment in him or his channel, but Jay's prediction just feels... off to me.
@@PaintedLive I like how you just straight up side with Dan and it's so obvious. Even if you say you don't, it's clear what your morals says about the whole situation to begin with.
Stephen wanted to be paid a fair wage, Dan said no to which this whole mess began. While I would agree with you since Stephan said so first with no clear lining evidence. But when multiple people (Not just Stephan and Jay) who worked with Dan confirmed this! Are you really going to sit here and tell me that I'm wrong? xD
Touch some grass already.
@@yedffgd I think that’s a clear indicator that they already had an argument and 33% was somehow brought up, and Dan twisted it and stretched the truth to say that he asked for 33.
Something like:
“I am only asking for 20, it’s not like I want like 33% or something”
Or “can I get x amount” “that’s like 33%” “well then just 20 will be fine.”
And Dan took it and ran with it. Or something like that. It often happens in situations like these, lying by omission.
@@PaintedLive "Touch some grass" Grow up. Dan was at fault for how it happened. He mistreated Stephan and everyone expects him to just sit there? No, He got tired and was justified.
I remember Hosuh saying: "you guys don't know nightmare it gives me with the thought you guys leaving the channel"
It's clear he just wanted to do a thing with his friends and money ruined it.

He was going to military
@Kayleigh Reimert agreed
Kayleigh Reimert He still hangs out with Stephen and shows up to a lot of his streams!
Hes all good! He did some videos with Steven on his channel and then left to go serve his military service!
Daniel is fine
Those comments about "I paid for all these trips" scream financial abuse.
My ex was like that; he paid for one weekend away as a birthday present, and that meant he could hold it over me for literally a decade. Look how generous I am, I paid for this for you, so now you can't ask for anything, say anything negative, or want a more equal arrangement. Because I pay for you, you don't get any say in what we do.
I'd rather have one holiday I chose and pay for than be taken on 5 that I have no say in, and am made to feel like a burden.
Yes that's how it sounded to me too! What hurt more was Stephen thought this was Dan trying to make up for his mess ups. And then he pulled out a camera. It was gonna be for content.
People tend to forget that abuse can be between anyone. Not just romantic partners. Hell look at the illuminaughti situation. Yes one of her victims was her partner but the other was a supposed friend.
The fact that the old videos averaged around 4-4.5 million views and the new ones tend to average around 250k views is pretty telling
Yeah... Stephen was the favorite and everyone but Dan knew it.
Even worse now it seems, newer videos are now below that, between 100-200k views, proportionally to the sub count and the other videos, that is a big hit to the channel, also, i haven't watched the new videos, cause i'm not a fan of DP, but from the looks of it, the guy with light blue hair in the thumbnails almost seems like he's meant to be a replacement for Stephen, but that's only looking at the thumbnails, so i really don't know.
The latest video has only 49k views
It's mostly because of the drama.
Ye the current videos are getting even lower being 50k in weeks
I just feel bad for Hosuh

Housh has been seen on stream agreeing with Stephen, so if anything he is on Stephen’s side. If you check out Stephen’s channel there’s a stream with the words moral compass (forgot the rest of the title) where he speaks about it.

It became extremely complicated because Hosuh soon had to go back to Korea to finish his military service.

Stephen was the whole reason I watched danplan. Very heartbreaking finding out Dan didn’t care at all.
Worse, he thought of Stephen as nothing more than an accessory. Thinking that the reason the channel thrived was all his doing.
He stills doing stuff with Hosuh and another friend named Hart, the channel's name is Plan3
Literally, stephen was the main and nearly only reason why i watched danplan, the only reason why i found them is because of stephen
So its just heartbreaking that dan thought that stephen does nothibg and is just an "employe"
to be honest Dan brought nothing to the table except narration and sometimes helping with jokes the channel was carried entirely by Hosuh and Stephen who had great chemistry and were extremely entertaining to watch just having fun
i mean moderation is a big part too... it just stuck to me that dan acted like he is the main protagonist while actually it was him with hosuh and steven
If it makes u feel better Stevan and husha made there own Chanel where everyone is payed the same whith the better verson of Dan hart still funny and it’s animated
@@The_waffle.. Yeah it's called plan3
i mean he was also the one who edited the videos and audio which even stephen said
In his recent videos he really doesn't bring much to the table with respect to the characters he do, i think he was doing more and having fun with stephen and hosuh which is why them 3 together had such great chemistry and videos much enjoyable
I found danplan and plan3 very recently, i watched maybe one or two recnt danplan video but soon i was binging the old videos that youtube recommended and i did not read comments i was just chilling and then it hit me why aren't they in the recent videos and then i checked the comments the drama happened and I'm sad

DanPlan was so good because the CHEMISTRY and FRIENDSHIP between Hosuh, Stephen, and Dan was so amazing. The banter, the stories, the characters, it was all so fun to watch. I felt like I was watching three good friends goof around. Too bad Dan lost sight of what really matters when it comes to a channel.

The entire drama felt like your parents getting divorced right in front of you and there was nothing you and your million+ siblings could do about it. Going back to watch dan's new videos, they really aren't as entertaining anymore and probably never will be, it's sad.
The entire discord was in shambles
i can't watch any of their videos now, it kinda hurts too much? it was fun while it lasted but it's ended now
Hosuh is like the child. He really tried to help them from the fighting and it was sad. When he came back from the military he must have been so confused about it
@@imnotkanyewest1791 If it makes you happier, go search "Actually Stephen" on YT and see an animated video with Hossuh in it which is called (I forgotten the name) which is about guessing the price tag. It's actually really good with Gavin (Stephen's brother) doing Daniel's job. ♥️
yeah like how to relase stress
I still miss the old DanPlan, it was so charming to see those friends interact with each other. Dan was more of a host making up the creative scenario's, but Stephen and Hosuh were the main characters, like the angel and devil dynamic.
At some point I did kinda feel like Stephen was acting rather "strangely" and it felt unnatural, I just brushed it off as him trying to appease the fans with some "fan service" and just trying out something new just because he can.
But then Stephen's video dropped, I watched it and it confirmed my suspicions. He named almost every video scenario that I always thought were strange. I'm not sure how many others has noticed those signs before Stephen left DanPlan.
We all saw those videos, we all saw how Stephen acted, but we didn't really question it that much. I'm not sure if we "noticing" those things would make a difference, but I think it would at least give a small sign that we love Stephen's chaotic evil personality and that he's one if the reasons why we loved DanPlan so much. ALAS, reality isn't like that.
Now I'm not following Stephen or DanPlan, it just kinda hurts to see that they separated... Maybe in some other time, universe, world whatever DanPlan could have continued and begun to be one of the most famous CZcams channel from this era.
I really liked that their video's are concepts I've never really seen before.
Yeah. Their old videos were really fun to watch when I was younger, I loved their dynamic and I loved the 'simplicity' in the art. It can go from detailed to looking like a simple doodle. Man
I still follow Stephen although not dan cause well it's not the same without him and housah by hey although it hurts people must move on so yeah I don't blame you
Hosuh and Stephen record with this dude named Hart which was an animator for Danplan, It’s on hosuhs channel (Plan3)

if youd like funny content in a similar style Hosuh and Stephen have a friend named Hart who they have a youtube channel together called 3plan (and tbh I enjoy Hart has a HOST not "leader" like Dan was and their dynamic was honestly way more funny)
Absolutely love how confident Stephen is. He knows what he's worth and he's willing to fight tooth and nail to show it.
Cause his random violence in contrast with Hosuhs innocence was always what made the video, at least for me
Personally, it was their friendship that got me hooked. Sure each of them had a unique and amazing personality but them interacting with one another is enough to keep me watching! To see them break it entirely just hurt to watch...

Me too
I think what really hurts me is that I really looked up to their friendship, hoping that I would have that kind of dynamic one day with other people too. Seeing it just fall apart makes me remember all the forgotten and broken friendships I’ve had making my heart break even further.
It's incredibly heartbreaking..

I cannot explain how accurate this iss hhhh
On a personal level, this is accurate to me and my friends as well, this whole danplan split up basically happened with me and 2 best friends
It hurts a lot, and I hope Hosuh is doing better

Stephen and Hosuh was definitely my favourites of the group I never really paid attention to Daniel, I felt like he didn't have a “personality” he was just...there. Hosuh and Stephen had clashing personalities but are good friends deffo.
I’m glad Stephen and hosuh still hang out :)
After 3 years, I'm still crushed by this, they helped me go through so many bad times. I don't give a shit, whose falut it was to theirs break up, I'm just deeply sad to see this.

Hosuh deserves so much more than 15%
Stephen deserved more then 1%
idk if i get you comment or ill be r/wooooshed but hosuh stated he didnt want money at all, the 15% was pushed to him by dan so imo its not a matter of deserving
You're stupid Stephen deserved at least 15% and Jay deserved something they worked so much and didn't even get thanked
Edit : sorry I was tired and just woke up
Agreed
He was at least 40% of my reason for watching the videos, and he also animated stuff, so...
It's interesting to me how at least a part of the problem was that no singular person knew all the facts. For example, Stephen was outraged at the 85-15 split between Dan and Hosuh, but didn't know that Hosuh didn't want to be paid at all
Yep, and I think that's also a part of why a lot of people have different views about this matter.

@@shark_aaaaa7161 he got 35% in shares "to use to develop the channel" and didn't use ANY of it to give animators a liveable wage or a good environment because "they will eventually leave anyway". What development did he spend it on other than just himself?
That's understandable, but what the fuck did Dan spend all the money on if he wasn't paying the animators and everyone else fairly? That's so much money just gone, you could argue it was spent in attempts to rebrand the channel to more irl based content, but why do that? Their "By the Way" series was doing so well and clearly Housah and Stephan wasn't too privvy to the idea of it as they had their faces covered in the videos. I could totally see them getting upset over the trip even more so from going from this view of "Oh hey, cool, Dan is taking us on a nice friendly trip to just hang out!" to the "oh...this trip wasn't intended for us but intended to make content from".
Dan seems like the kind of boss to reward his employees with a pizza party instead of a bonus.

I remember watching Danplan, I loved watching them. Their friendship was great and I love what they did. I remember at some point, I wondered why Hosuh and Stephen never made a fun scenario, why was Dan the one who picked it?
I was heartbroken when I heard Stephen was leaving and everything came out. You can the hurt and the frustration in Stephen's voice, especially for the animators.
I've been watching Recreyo, who actually takes turns for fun scenarios. Hosuh and Stephen even showed up for a video.
watch plan3
Here's a thought...as someone who didn't watch danplan, has no emotional attachment to this situation, this is what I see; someone who didn't consider the fact that he should compensate fairly the people who helped him make his channel the success it became. Whether this was moral issue of greed or an oversight of someone who doesn't understand the dynamics of what essentially became a business, not just three or four people doing something for fun anymore. He failed to compensate at a fair exchange. Whether it was the artists or the actors. This became a business with out a contract.
All I hear is "but like...I took him to Disneyland and camping?". My dude. The man wanted to be paid fairly. He didn't want to be treated like a 3-year-old birthday girl for one day lol
Also it's a moot point like Stephen said as soon as Dan started filming for a CZcams video
Bruh Dan literally said that Stephen considered it a hobby and suggested as much pay as everyone else but Stephen refused to take more money so dan gave him at least some. So I think he should have given more yes but Stephen did not want more. But then Stephen asks 20-33% of the revenue that is a little bit crazy. Bruh, it just sounds like Dan went from "friend" to "CEO" the moment the channel started getting a lot of money.
Regardless of the reasoning, you don't _treat_ your friends as employees when they're as responsible for your success as you are.
If more so
That's the problem, you have to switch from friend to CEO if giant amounts of money come in. Suddenly there is a business that needs to be managed. Friendship can persist apart the company, but at that moment that channel became work and every one in it an employee. That's how it works, other wise you beg to being fucked in the but by the law.
So true. If you start treating your friends as replaceable people, they won't be your friend any more
@@NineSun001 Yeah, but you aren't exactly doing good business if you become the big boss that gets to pick and choose who and how much and everyone else doesn't get what they deserve.

If he was willing/wanting to pay Hosuh 50%, but Hosuh didn’t want to and stepped down to 15%, what about that other 35%? Even if Stephen DID ask for 33%, which i’m doubtful of, it would be in his budget for that, no? He would still have been paying less than he would have if Hosuh accepted 50%. That to me screams that it is purely personal, it’s not that it’s a lot of money for him like he said, it’s just that he didn’t want it to go specifically to Stephen. Sorry, but that’s a POS badly masquerading as a ‘friend’. It’s just trying to make someone, who was fully a part of the channel bringing in plenty of views, feel like an outsider. What a horrid person. I’m glad to see Plan3 getting more views than DanPlan is now.
It’s good to hear it acknowledged that time spent is NOT always the way we should judge value. You have to look at the impact of the product/service on the brand (I.e., the characters and how the help to grow the channel in this context). CZcamsrs are creatives and in some ways they are performers. Performers need to be paid based on how much money they make their venue (the DanPlan channel), not how long they perform. That was Stephen’s point and he’s right.

the way Dan talked in that video about the discord call with Stephen made my skin crawl. the langauge and tone he was using to describe his friend and employee making an incredibly reasonable request for better pay had all the signs of narcissist behavior.
yep, he's kinda bummed about why the star of a channel named before him is stared by not him. Its like the show of SpongeBob where the actual star is Patrick
What annoys me the most about this is when this drama first began, Danplan lost a lot of subscribers but in the years since the drama, Danplan has gained over 2 million subscribers and now have more to subscribers than the channel that Steve and Hosuh made together Plan3 which doesn't even have a million subscribers, I think Steven and Hosuh very much so deserve more than that narcissistic asshole.

I have always seen danplan as a duo, not a trio. Stephen as the opposite of hosuh's innocent nature and it is so incredible to watch. Dan could easily be replaced by any other narrator type dude and i wouldn't bat an eye. The "dan" in danplan is nothing but just that, a name. The channel is kinda boring now.
Lucky for you Hosuh and Stephen started up a new channel called Plan3 where it's basically the same as the original trio. Dan is just replaced with Hart and I still enjoy their content! Just wish it was a bit longer than 5-10 minutes
On rewatch a few years later, I think there’s something else to point out about the Vanoss metaphor that Dan made. When Vanoss recorded with friends, all of his friends uploaded their perspectives to their own channels, which helped them grow; however, what would Stephen or Jay have posted to their channels? After all, Danplan is an animation-focused channel. With the Vanoss crew, everyone involved was able to make content for their own channels when playing together, but that simply wouldn’t have been the case with DanPlan, because the medium doesn’t facilitate that. Therefore, I understand why Stephen thought that he would _need_ a share of the channel were he to stay with it because that’s the only way his contribution could be meaningfully rewarded. It’s also weird that Hosuh was exempt from this idea of needing to create a channel, and it probably escalated the situation much faster than it would have otherwise because it felt like a double standard to Stephen because he wasn’t liked or something. It’s not like I don’t understand Dan’s perspective, but I still think he had quite a flawed mentality and Stephen’s felt more relatable to me. It goes beyond the money at that point; rather, it’s what the money represents. But even though I think that Stephen’s perspective was more justified, I disliked how much they berated each other and thought the other was just trying to take advantage of them despite neither trying to, it made me quite sad
i hate daniel saying "its not your problem, im sorry you got dragged into this" when the entire scenario directly effects the animators, since the issue revolves around people working on danplan being underpaid. it IS their problem if they arent getting paid enough.
I do get all of the comments saying "I didn't even watch it for Dan, I watched it for ___!" but I will say, at least for myself, the thing about danplan that I liked was the trio, I might've liked certain characters or moments more than others, but I tried watching Stephan's own channel and didn't really enjoy it. Dan comes across like he's just strictly business focused on the channel side which if that's true it's most likely why he's looking at the big picture but missing all the details Stephan and Hosuh were just cogs in his machine if they stopped functioning they could be replaced except unlike a cog in a machine Stephen and Hosuh were more like critical parts of the machine that couldn't be replaced without more effort then just keeping Stephen and Hosuh functioning for the machine
To move away from the machine analogy all Stephen wanted was respect and proper pay for his work to keep him around to replace him Dan has to find someone with the correct chemistry that the fans like as much as Stephen and now work with the stigma of Stephen letting it be known the negatives of working with Dan and how that'll harm him in the short and long term

The main red flag I see with Dan is to defend how he is friends with Stephen and not seeing him as an employeee he lists off the things he does for stephen. inviting someone to go camping etc. It's acts of kindness, things he did. he keeps track. Its kinda telling of how he views relationships. He thinks DOING THINGS for people makes him a good friend. It's like that one video they made." whats your love language. Dan's love language is gifts and actions. but Stephen doesn't want that. he just wanted to be validated and complimented. he's not materialistic. I have a mentallity similar to Dan so I can understand. I think about all the favors, and money I've spent on a friend to validate how good of a friend I am. but in reality I'm not that great of a friend. It's very surface level friendship.
The problem is not really about the gift and actions love language. Because if that would be the case, then he wouldn't hold those gifts over him as a sense of "that is payment enough". I have the same love language and I think that sometimes those acts get very little value and recognition compared to other love languages. But my biggest problem is the holding of kind actions above someone's head. If you mean a gift, than it's just that... a gift. You give it, you receive gratitude and a good time with your friends and that's it. The problem is more about keeping apart business (their channel and videos) and their private world/space/friendship. And sadly that happened with this channel, that especially Dan forgot. That pay or valuation in private does normally not translate to valuation as an employee or as a friend and member in business.
Sorry if I'm rambling, I just want to also make clear to you, that there's nothing wrong with our love language. You just can't translate private acts of love into business acts of "love". Please don' t forget that.
I think the reason Dan insisted on "paying him at least something" is quite obviously because he wanted to be able to say later that Stephen's contributions were work for hire as a counter in the event that Stephen wanted to claim ownership of characters, image, and content he created for the show later, likely because Dan was either already making real money or because he anticipated it in the near future and wanted to establish the skewed income structure before others realized the volume of money at stake and demanded a more equitable split. Had there been no money exchanged, it would have strengthened Stephen's legal situation for claiming an ownership stake. I also think Dan is a sneaky snake.

Things like I’m sorry that you feel that way are where it gets more problematic as it can suggest that the person apologising is just doing it to shut things down or because they are feeling obligated to, sometimes even that the issue is imagined by the recipient.
@@mistydrawstudiosuk4422 personally that still seems like brushing off the other person as emotional or crazy by assuming their feelings, although it is indeed considered a good method of apologising. I remember watching all this go down after having watched danplan for a year whrn all the drama started it was wild watching people be like “we shouldn’t cause dan to lose all his subs just because stephen left!!” and having the other side being “we shouldn’t let dan get away with doing what he does to his coworkers” when I tell you twitter was wild that day-
“If i wasn’t friends with him, I wouldn’t be friends with him”
Yeah dan that’s how it works
lol

Not defending him, but I am pretty sure he just butchered a common phrase "If I had never met him through x, I probably never would've been friends with him." He meant if the circumstances were different, they probably would've never become friends.
I can't imagine how Hosuh must have felt during the entire Danplan drama
Must have been so stressful seeing two of your closest friends fight and trying to solve the problem to no avail.
Respect for Hosuh and hope that all parties involved haven't been affected in a greatly negative way.
I feel bad for the guy. It's pretty disheartening when 2 of your best friends fight each other and you are the mediator who tries to patch things up.
I can sort of understand Hosuh's.. perspective in this situation.
Obviously not as extreme, but I guess I've been in quite a few situations that are similar, taking the peacekeeping role and trying to help solve problems that I simply can't solve.
It's extremely stressful and upsetting to watch some of your closest friends argue/fight and seemingly fall apart, I really hope that he's doing alright though. He didn't deserve to get caught up in this, I'm basically just saying what you said in your last sentence though.
Hosuh: This is fine.
Very late comment but Dan constantly asking to meet up and talk could be another manipulation tactic and so there is nothing on the record. I understand some people feel more comfortable talking it out but Stephen expressed he'd rather speak online which is good for him as he can get screenshots and record the calls.
I once had a manager in an old job who constantly called and hounded me to come in on days off. Whenever i text back saying I wasn't coming in, he'd try and phone me and demand i speak over the phone and that's only so he could scream abuse down the phone at people until they'd come in or quit. He'd refuse to speak anymore about it over text cause then there's no evidence. Dan's whole manner about addressing the situation just screams manipulation. He wanted to make the most money and pay for everyone's trip and then lord it over their heads.
Low key broke my heart when I heard him talking about his friend calling him just an employee, I don't know how he didn't just leave on the spot when he said that
I can't be the only one that desperately misses Steven's hilarious violence.
You are not the only one
he makes videos on his youtube channel with his friend
SuperLazerRays brother you mean?
@@ellaisswag4553 wait really? i thought it was just his friend
SuperLazerRays nah, is his brother lol
Ironically it turns out Stephen was the most important person on the channel as a result of being to most entertaining member
I don't think that there's just one "important" person. The dynamic and relationship is what made it all so entertaining. I'd say the fallout would just be as big if Hosuh left for the same reasons.
Yea the channel got million of views but now they get around 200 thousand
@@wooinlouieyang5243 i mean,,, i checked and DanPlan’s channel still has a good amount of views while Stephens channel is kinda flopping so.... 😬
@@tuopsy nah i checked when this scandal happened the channel plummets from 8-4 million views per video to 200-88k that's a huge hit. Meh i didn't know they existed lol they have 2 million subs yet it's less than 12.5%- (250,000 per video if estimated) that are watching which is sad for the original 250%+ (5 million per video if estimated) from thier 2 million subs.

Ok, before you scroll further, let me summarise all the comments:
Dan = Bad
Stephen and Jay and everyone else at Danplan= Underpayed
Hosuh = The kid who has divorced parents
