    Like all of Finnegan's builds this is the point where someone builds a bunch of stuff then Finnegan decides to finish it and in 2 1/2 years he'll have a 7-Day mad thrash to finish. Everyone's sweating a caddy but he just hasn't found the right event yet to spend 7 days and finish it 😂

    Turbos make power from heat. You get the most out of them by minimizing the distance between the head and the turbo. Deal with thermal management after maximizing power, not before! You also want to use an AC solution for an intercooler.

    Finn alluded to it with the Firebird; once a car is “done” and he doesn’t have a specific use for it he’ll get bored and want to sell it. The longer the Caddy is a “project” the longer he’ll keep it around since he does like the car. Just a theory!

  • @jonniessink1
    @jonniessink1 Před 2 měsíci

    For the turbos, go with Nelson racing mirror image turbos like you did with your boat. It'll make placement easier and more compact so the air flows better around to keep the car cooler in drag and drive events.

  • @agentcrm
    @agentcrm Před 2 měsíci

      @jeffmooers2174 Před měsícem

      Yes, by the rulebook( if observed), the wheelbase variance from side to side cannot exceed 1 inch. This will confirm the front axle rollout, which is factor in starting the clock in a legal drag race contest. The clocks do not start on the green light, they start when the front tires clear the starting line beam. Hope that helps.

    I had a 4" cowl induction scoop on my 78 Z-28 and air flowed OUT up to about 40 mph where the pressure from the windshield started to push air into the scoop. Driving in the rain really showed this well watching the raindrops as they got to the rear lip. With several Big Blocks that car never had heating problems...until I put a stock hood back on trying to make it look more stock. Bad move.

  • @twol78s90
    @twol78s90 Před 2 měsíci

    I thought it looked Lexus-ish in the blurred out views that I saw, but I had no idea it was such a cool and unique Lexus. They are certainly uniquely stylistic as Lexus' go, and were beautiful in stock form(I actually saw one on the road here when they first came out, and about drove off the road staring at it), and my Lord, and it already looks stunning as it is in its current form.
    I can imagine how awesome it'll be in terms of the engineering and build-out quality with you, Joe, and RK working on it, but I can't really imagine what it'll look like completed. It's bound to be amazing in the end. Keep the faith, as with any big project like this, there are always gotchas that can be frustrating, but with imagination, planning, determination and (OK, I'll say it) cubic-dollars, anything can be overcome!
    Will it be switchable between race slicks (obviously not as crazy as those on it now) and street tires and still look balanced in either trim? With you taking about 200MPH speeds (1/4 mile trap speeds, I assume) you're gonna need some pretty beefy tires out back to contain the power of the twin turbo motor. I suspect the adjustability of the suspension system will be a huge factor. A completely computer-controlled suspension system that can be tuned to each setup would be amazing. There are some systems starting to show up that can manage race car suspension in real-time to avoid wheel hop, leave hard with the ability to totally tune-out wheelies (if you want), and then can be reset to street settings with a touch of a button. Just swap the wheels and tires, and press the button, and you're set up for street or race mode. Pricey systems, but it'd sure make the livability of the car a lot easier.
    What kind of rear end is going in it? A Ford 9-inch (suitably beefed up aka Currie), or something perhaps a bit more exotic? What gear do you think you'll put in the diff? Automatic or manual? A six-speed manual would be really cool because you are fantastic on ripping through the gears, though it looks like its already set up for an automatic -- but that can be changed :-) .
    What color are you going to paint it? The original snow-pure white does look great, but I can imagine a few other colors that would also make the car look beyond stunning, with that white being one of them. I'm sure if you haven't nailed that down already, you're day-dreaming about it a lot.
    All questions you probably don't want to answer at this point, and I understand. All I can say is that I can't wait for future postings as this project moves along.
    You are truly blessed to have the ability and skills to build so many diverse and utterly cool cars!
    I have to compliment your wife, as she's got to be an amazing lady to support your dreams. She's yet another huge blessing in your life.
    Blasphemi is still my favorite of them all, but when this Lexus is finished, I have a feeling that Blasphemi may be in a close second-place. Speaking of Blasphemi, when are you going to run it next? I love watching you hammering the gears as you bullet down the track. Your shift style reminds me of the late (RIP) Bill Jenkins.
    Thank you for sharing your work(fun) with us. Its living vicariously through you and Joe. Every moment is a joy to watch!
    Keep all the cars shiny-side up, and y'all stay safe.

    @28:50 _"Had some problems, valve spring issues..."_ Funny coincidence! The engine builder, Steve Morris, recently did a video on this. Long drives at constant low RPM were right at the spot where the valve springs would surge (or resonate), leading to springs breaking. Steve himself had the same issues with his own SMX, and so had Cleetus. That other famous drag-and-drive SMX customer, Tom Bailey, did not have valve spring issues since he runs a different cam profile.

    Awesome!!! If you get those panels to stay in place at 200+ you will be in great shape! But I must say, Finnegan, you NEVER pick the easy route!!! Ever think there was a reason the guy never finished the car? Rarity comes first to my mind!! But it will be a beautiful car when done!!!! Good luck!!

      He never finished because he saw his close friend get into a crash at the track and decided himself to walk away from it, as far as what I've read. Not that it matters but just a random piece of info.

  • @QBDLettuce

    Very cool. 😃
    I will say though, a personal pet peeve of mine is when tubed/gutted chassis cars are still called the car they were before. No hate or anything just a personal grievance of mine that I'm sure not many people share. Not that it matters, I think the original car chassis/mounting points and geometry are what make it that car, once you change those or go full custom, it's no longer that.
    So more like a drag car with LC500 panels. 😅 Still awesome and love to see how this all turns out.
