They THINK they're being clever, but what they did is open a very very dangerous door to the kind of fascism that operated in 1930s Germany. They declined to set up a test for what is or isn't an official act, deliberately because they wanted to force repeated back and forth appeals before having to do so. SO now, in a vacuum individual federal court judges and court of appeals justices must formulate analyses for what does or does NOT constitute official acts. The appellate bodies will then scrutinize these analyses and standards such that no clear delineation will exist for the next 5-10 years even. As such, the Court can permit some acts by their favorite POTUS and disallow others from the party in power that they don't like!

If the president acts outside of his authority as president, then he can be charged. You must first prove that his actions were outside the scope of his authority AND that they were illegal. That is what this ruling states.

A level of immunity is necessary for the president to do his job, and to keep us from being a banana Republic. This IS about the office of the president. There is always Impeachment to reign in out of control individual presidents.

Yeah, I remember this one time when an out of control, individual president lost an election, refused to accept his loss and incited a mob of his angry followers to storm the Capitol and interrupt the transfer of power and disparaged his Vice President on social media, leading to the angry, violent mob threatening the Vice President with execution. And then the out of control individual president was impeached. And everything was fixed and better again and we're all living happily ever after.

Don't worry. All the STEM workers will stay here in America while all the liberal arts students will follow you to Canada.
But let's be honest. You're not going anywhere.

Checks and balances are sensible and rational. If they're worried about endless legal problems, perhaps all of the parties should choose better representatives for this office?
