Roe vs Wade was 7-2 and would not have been passed if an unanimous vote would be necessary.
Unanimous vote in which direction? You need a default, since juries default to not guilty.
In cases like this, each side is claiming that they’re not changing or overruling anything but merely clarifying what is already settled law. You would have to specify a “correct” side to make it the default.
This will not stand. The majority of Americans will not accept this.

The ruling says that under teh Constitution the role of judging the actions of the POTUS sits with Congress, not the judiciary.

This court is abusing their authority by legislating from the bench, violating the separation of powers doctrine. It is Congress's job to enact legislation, and the supreme court's job is to uphold legislation, not write law. The only reason they are acting this way is because of maga in Congress.

That is why I say the real issues were not constitutionality, the law or any other flim flam, but money and power, which the founding fathers respected and valued above all.

Their concern was that no one should be above the law. (Something a judge on the supreme court said in 1818 at a time when he would have known the founding fathers.) It is a sick day.

One thing we've learned from the Roberts court is that there is nothing that they can rule that can't be overturned by a differently constituted court because after Roe, for example, nothing is settled law, no precedent is sacred.
Precedent means less than nothing now, after it's been given no weight whatsoever for the last few years.
They gave themselves absolute power, because they will ultimately decide whats Official. Trump: official action. Democrats: personal action.

It's the Federalists, the tea party and the conservatives. Not just McConnell.
Ironically we started spouting about democracy in the 3rd world while we were eroding ours and giving more power to Conservatives in the 1970s to 80s. Ironically as we began to meddle more in other countries’ politics (Israel, supposed anti-communism, 3rd world countries, etc.) there was a movement against our own social welfare programs. So instead of enabling our citizens we spent billions on other countries.
The Christian right (and I mean the “direction” of right not “right” as in “correct”) gained influence in politics in the 70s and 80s. So much for separation of church and state.
After Republicans lost to Clinton and that administration eliminated the deficit Republicans started rejecting across-the-aisle politics and just started playing dirty to take back or subvert power.
The Bush administration and the failure for anyone to be held accountable for the “weapons of mass distruction” lies or Blackwater, etc. was the last era in which we saw any bi-partisan politics.
McConnell WAS the poster boy for this when he blocked Gorsuch’s Supreme Court confirmation but pushed through Cavannaugh’s ignoring the precedent he himself set about not nominating a justice in close to an election or close to a change in administration. Devious, corrupt and yet effective. But this agenda was deeper and darker than McConnell.
btw, Bader Ginsburg is no heroine because her ego wouldn’t alllow her to step down when Democrats could have replaced her with a non-Conservative justice. She shouldn’t have been lauded after her death but instead villified by Democrats or anyone who feared a Conservative Supreme Court. Over turning Roe v. Wade is a responsibility she shares despite her other work.
So we have a Conservative SC majority who is bolding ignoring precedent and pandering to politics. We have justices who are literally getting tipped and financed to rule in favor of those conservative right-wing agendas.
Democrats have not had any effective counter to Republicans agenda and corruption of power. Obama was a failure in countering Republican attacks. Democrats have let Republicans govern in opposition to what the majority of voters want.
So we are here. And the Democrats still don’t have an effective plan and, now, so much less power because of the Supreme Court.
Recent rulings are just the start of the end of democracy as we know it. The Supreme Court is clearly telling us that they will allow subversion of power and they will in fact rule in favor of it.
At the end of the day, Trump is still a puppet and a despot-in-waiting. Republicans have sold their soul to stay in power ignoring the fact that Trump is not religious not moral and is against everything they believe in …. except greed for power.
If the Republicans win in November or the Democrats do and don’t have the House and Senate it is game over for democracy. The president and it’s administration will be emboldened to act in their own best self interests, doling out favors and bribs, pardoning their cronies, using the DOJ as a personal agency instead of the impartial agency it what intended to be.

Love Ian's chair - I have one exactly the same. To be more serious, this is a dark day for America - its ever-diminishing claim to exceptionalism just got dragged down even further. How galling for democracies like Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland and others who've fought to re-establish democracies and the rule of law in their country - following decades of subjucation by the Soviet Union - to see Trump provided the same level of autocracy as the likes of Putin and Xi Jinping. Appalling.
It's easy to label Xi and Putin as having absolute power, but the truth is somewhat different. Both have to negotiate with and bring their peers along with them.
The Chinese parliament or whatever they call it is huge. Also, a great deal of power has been devolved to the regions. Xi could never control a country the size of China, with 2.4 billion people, as a one man band. Trump in power would need not negotiate with anyone. In fact, if a crony disagreed with, him said crony could be eliminated with no repercussions whatsoever.
The Supreme Court justices' decision in Trump's immunity case was not driven by the evidence, but by their political leanings, which is deeply troubling and frustrating.
It was driven by the Constitution of the United States.
It very clearly states that the role of judging the actions of the POTUS sits with Congress. That is why impeachment exists.
In tandem with their religious beliefs, which makes it particularly insidious.
Their decisions are bought and paid for by wealthy benefactors. It's all about money.
And their political leanings are bought and paid for by the billions of dollars invested by the those who want to have total control over our society.
