Great video and history. Salute, their service.
It IS a 1942 Ford GPW and a work in progress, having been altered during the last 60 Years or so. I have been slowly restoring her to original military specs as best I can, working on some incorrect and missing parts, many of which are describe in the oratory. This was the first time I took it a great distance to display at the Greenwood Lake Airshow. Hope you all like it! Thank you!
God Bless our Veterans and God Bless America!
sincerely,

Looks like a nice project, have fun with it and post updates! Thanks!
Awesome video, it was cool hearing more about this jeep. I would love to take a ride in one of those, the engine sounded great!
Thank you!

THE BEST WOLRD JEEP WILLYs, BRASIL OK
I heard you say a friend trailer it for you and he was from Orange county N .Y., so am I. I was born and raised at West Point. My uncle was a MP at west Point and may have known you father.
sorry the road springs look like ford ,,the nut on the steering wheel wrong ,,, it might be a ford but is has been fitted with some wrong parts,, sorry colin
I noticed the West Point detachment patch in the case. who served at West Point?
Nice jeep but you have a lot to do on it. You have a Cj2a front floor with a T90 transmission and a gas tank spout that should not be in the side. Also the front axle is too new for a 40s jeep( ww2 jeeps did not have locking hubs) but you do have a very early black out marker light. Good luck!
Thanks for being so positive! you are right about the T-90 transmission, I forgot to mention it during the oratory, which was done on the fly off the top of my head
in 1 continuos take. I keep working on the jeep every year and hopefull will get all together. all it takes is time and money! Thanks again for your support and encouragement.
Nice one but a huge project to bring it back to WW2 state. Most of it is simply wrong, even the body is not correct. On jeep draw you can find all the details or you can buy a book like the ones from John Farley as a start. Any questions you can ask on G503.com.
Hello from GPW 6024.

Who was the West Point MP?
+usma41 Artlab Hi, My father served as an MP at West Point during Korean War, 1951-1954. Those are his patches and medals in the case. I can send you pictures, contact me prm3@hotmail.com
Does he plan on restoring it?
+Ken MacMillan Yes, he plans in restoring the Jeep. Such restoration takes time, money, patience, and a wealth of knowledge.
TO think Ford made the Jeep at one point...ugh I had a baby barf!
I wonder how many people realize the name Jeep came from the Ford GPW or General Purpose War vehicle?
Originally it was called the Pygmy. Then the army wanted 1500 more for testing and it became the Government Pygmy. Then the army standardized the design and Willys won the contract but couldn't keep up with demand and when Ford was asked to build them too they renamed it Government Pygmy Willys because it was licensed from Willys Overland.
Ken, I did some more research and found the GI's nicknamed them the Jeep because the Ford version was the GPW. The G stood for government contract, the P was for 80" wheelbase and the W stood for Wiley's body. The GPW was called a Jeep and then all of them were called a Jeep. This info came from a Korean War vet who had worked in the motor pool.
