The 590A1 that was excepted by the US MARINE CORPS is the Retrograde wood stock heat shield bayonet heavy walled metal trigger guard and metal safety tab and it ain’t cheap. They go for well over $800 to $1000 but they are exactly what the Marine Corps bought.

The factory had a Ordnance Officer on hand and the guns were inspected by batches. They would pull up to 5 weapons by random from each batch and inspect them. Then approve the stamping.

The old Plainfield M1 carbine. Mine is still kicking! Oh and yes they may not be a collector grade weapon but it sure is worth more than the $159 bucks I paid for it. I’ll keep it as one of my main shooter M1 carbines, of which I have about all the commercial grade M1 carbines I know of plus every US contract M1 carbines. Now on war shotguns, I have managed over 40 years to pretty much collect all of them I know of. There are more than folks realize. Both the Winchester 1887 and 1893 and 1897 are not the first shotguns the US military had. Single shot and double barrel shotguns were purchased by the US military plus black powder shotguns most of which the US Navy bought to repel boarders from wind powered sailing ships.

The switch from 6.5 to 7.7 was due to the power but it is really an odd choice. The 6.5 was under pressured compared to all other rifle cartridges of the era. There’s little known as to why. Many speculate it was the propellant type or the heat exposure. There’s not a lot of evidence or information.
