I received training on all those mines and fuses when I was at Ft. Benning at the NCO Candidate Course. It was a 3 month course after which I was promoted to Sergeant before going to Vietnam. Always thought Combat Engineers was a cool MOS because I liked blowing stuff up! Had great fun in Nam destroying old, obsolete ammo supplies. That was the only time I got to use my explosives training. The intent of that training was actually how to destroy Vietnamese mines and booby traps which, fortunately for me, I never encounter. Regrettably, I had a buddy from basic, ait, and NCOCC that was not so lucky and was killed in January, 1972, by a booby trap. He was the only guy I knew that died in Nam and I remember him every Veterans Day, and others times as well. Like the trope, “All gave some and some gave all.” You are not forgotten, Doug.

Sapper is the term used by all English speaking countries except the US. We were called "Pioneers", Combat Engineers,or 13 Alpha Tens. I have a Canadian Armed forces video on mine awareness which I hope to put out. Canada has taken the lead in eliminating these infernal devices.

@@stang3787 Nice video's we did, Pioneer's are embedded from and in Infantry Battalions to build and destroy items, could be recognized by their beards 20 years ago. Cheers. Pete
