  • The Mazda CX-9 is one of our favourite three-row crossovers, but until now, it hasn't been perfect. For 2019 though, Mazda have added Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and more safety tech to the CX-9 range, plus a new flagship model. Tom heads to Tasmania to drive Mazda's biggest seven-seat SUV.
    Have you been waiting for CarPlay or Android Auto before buying a CX-9? Do you like this Mazda SUV? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments.

    Nice one Tom...very comprehensive indeed. I know to provide performance numbers is problematic given the equipment you would need and the extra time it would take, but it would really nice to know 0-100kph stats and perhaps braking distance performance on review vehicles. Just a thought🤔. Otherwise a very consistent and professional review👍

    • @chasingcars

    Would be nice if pressure is placed on Mazda to give Aussie buyers a full spare wheel/tyre because distances in this country are not like Europe or Japan and a flat tyre might mean a huge inconvenience and even danger as the space saver tyre is useless.

    There is no perfect car (or SUV in this case) but this one comes pretty close. We are waiting for ours to be delivered after reviewing several other options here in Canada. The only downsides we could come up with for this car is lack of air vents in 3rd row and the small sunroof. Our lease is only 5 years though because I have a feeling the next major redesign might include Mazda's new SPCCI tech which could deliver even better fuel economy AND more performance. Mazda is killing it on the engineering front but I fear for their long term future because I don't see anything on the electrification front.

      @@wedantasatrya9458 We are definitely considering it. Only downside is the looks are a bit bulkier which is not to our taste. The CX-9 has sleeker lines imo. But that's subjective, everything else appears to be an upgrade and most of it is objective. Inline 6 with 340hp and yet the same fuel economy of the turbo 4 not to mention rear wheel drive dynamics all sound like a blast.

    Cons:
    - Pricey, and not as efficient as the CX-8 diesel on the highways (if you do a lot of that).
    - Lots of other 7 seaters competing it this class (worldwide - other markets included) that beat it in luxury, comfort, refinement or even off-road capability.
    - What you did: the looks and the Mazda badge are not that appealing to some. Personally though, I love it and am also a long-time Mazda fan.
    Pros:
    - The CX-9 is probably the best Japanese competitor in this large SUV class, as it does " many things right" (agreed), and is also a driver's car (good to drive & good communication from the car to the driver), that offers all the things we Zoom-Zoom fans come to expect from Mazda - while still being luxurious and refined enough. It beats the CX-8 (I tested them back to back) in those fields, has more inner space, and doesn't feel much bigger when you drive it. Enthusiasts like me/us, would almost certainly prefer the CX-9's turbocharged petrol.
    - A little subjective, but I love Mazda's interiors and careful/smart designs, seats and seating positions, steering and feedback, simple yet effective layout of things and how the safety and drive aids have been set up. This is a difficult mixture to get right, and many other brands have let me down here.
    - Decently good or better reliability, compared to what else is on offer in this large SUV category. The CX-9 is one of the lightest and most efficient and reliable vehicles in its class, and in most countries I travel to often, they have good second hand values - hold their value well. Their designs (in and out), that are often iconic, unique, and ahead of its time, usually mature well and help it hold its value. Good after-sales service as well in most (not all) countries.
    Cheers ✌️

    I wanted to love and buy this car for my family but there is just not enough space, especially with the stadium seating in the second row. My head touches the bloody roof. Ok i am 6’3’ but thats not unreasonable for a FAMILY suv. My teenagers are over six foot and even leg room isn’t adequate for such a large vehicle. Its 5.1m long! How can that be? They have made a long sexy bonnet at the expense of cabin space. I see tester after tester skimming over the fact that their head is almost touching the sexy sloping roof line and gushing at how generous the space is? I had to buy the Kluger as it destroys the CX9 for interior space whilst being significantly shorter externally. Unfortunately that means sacrificing tech and dynamic performance which the Mazda has in spades but in this so called spoiled for choice 7 seater market the only other options with proper large car interior space is the Acadia which is as dead as the Holden badge on its grill and the Pathfinder which is just plain awful. I can see why Toyota sell so many bloody Klugers, it’s the only proper large 7 seater on the market that does everything sorta well. What was meant to be an enjoyable exercise looking for a new family car ended up being as frustrating as hell. First world problem I know but I found it really surprising in such a competitive market.

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  Před 4 lety

      At the end of the day I am only six foot tall (as I disclose in every video) so that is going to influence the way I regard space in the physical world. Drives home why test driving the various options, bringing your family along, as you have done diligently, is so important. Did you buy yet? The new Kluger, which rides on the new platform under the RAV4, should be very good.

    • @Nathan-mj1cy
      @Nathan-mj1cy Před 4 lety

      Chasing Cars I wasn’t singling out your review in particular in regards to second row accommodation, i find your reviews in general informative but I had watched a number of reviews whilst doing online research and all didn’t seem to raise the stadium seating(great for small children i am sure) and the sloping roofline as a potential issue. I understand people come in all shapes and sizes,thats the beauty of having choice in the marketplace. I was just surprised how I eventually had to buy not what I felt was the best vehicle but the one that would work for us. We have signed on for a Kluger Black as we couldn’t wait into next year for the updated model but now its sitting at the dealers on hold due to the Toyota fuel pump recall with no end currently in sight...sigh. I really do appreciate your response to my original post and the fact you do take note of your viewers feedback.
