Such iconoclasm, such grandeur, such an improbable cosmic landscape full of darkness, light, fear and wonder and above all mystery, with blasts that plunge you into a trance followed by sudden changes that wake you up, eyes wide and quivering eyebrows. I've been listening to this every now and then for ages and still hear new subtleties.. 🐾😺

As someone who left Czechoslovakia in 1968 I didn't even know they existed until I moved back to CSFR in 1991. At my 1st job, I would pass under an overpass that had graffiti that said "The Plastic People of the Universe." I asked about it at work and they all said "oh, just some stupid 1960s band." "Nothing to worry about." Well, it was as if I was in telepathic communication where my friend from the USA sent me a tape, and a letter where he said "dude, you GOTTA listen to this!" and I was so glad I did. So, although I myself was born in Czechoslovakia, it was my American friend who turned me on to them. I would never have found out about them because I had a pretty good job and none of THOSE people were into that kind of music, and they certainly never played music like this on any of the radio stations, even post-1989.

    Oh, constipation is torturing me
    with its cruel favour
It feels like i have a stone in my belly

I think my bowels are rotting away

Francovka (Czech brand of rubbing alcohol) lyrics:
    I bought myself Francovka
    It cost me 30 crowns
    Now i'm gonna try
    if it's better than rum
    Half percent of menthol
i'm burping it up and down
    Seventy percent of alcohol
is weighing down on me really hard
    I bought myself Francovka
    It's cheaper than rum
My brain is starting to turn into mush because of all that drinking.

what....you seriously dont know what people are talking about when they say" easterneurope'....are you American?

    • @anonyarena
      @anonyarena Před 8 lety +8

Actually, we know what we are talking about from OUR own (American) perspective. From our point of view, European countries who were once under Communist rule were considered "Eastern European Countries" and that includes "East Germany" even though Germany is Central European and now united. "Eastern Europe" was a POLITICAL concept here, and absolutely not a geographical concept. That's VERY important to understand. What's more, we in the USA have tremendous respect and admiration for The Plastic People of the Universe, who we know went to prison for simply creating music that was politically forbidden. This is an oppression that no United States rock band had ever had to endure. Certainly there were rock musicians who were sometimes persecuted by the police, but the act of making unauthorized music itself was never illegal. It is for this reason we can only admire and respect the Plastic People, for their courage, and their defiance, as well as their brilliant music. Thanks for your time and your understanding.
