Canterbury scene? I was there in ‘67 .. knew the guys Caravan .. soft machine kevin … spirogyra etc.. thought Henry cow was in Germany. Slapp Happy ? … Anthony and Peter were St Christophers and St Albans … may be geriatric now … but sure i never saw Henry Cow at 5 St Radigunds …. There was no Canterbury scene at the time .. Just Max Hole organising great uni gigs and loads of good music. The so called Canterbury scene is a rose coloured spectacle post rationalisation.

I always thought one of the best cuts from Henry Cow was 'Milk Me' and the second best was 'Moo cho Bese moo'... Great tunes and captures an era when Milk was King. As the saying goes, "You never outgrow your need for milk...!
I bought this second hand (second foot?) in the late 70s as a random gesture.. ok so I like a course grained, tubular PVC (?) sock set in thin plaster.. anyway, it fed into my then (and still) uncle meat, weasels ripped my flesh fascination. Can't find the words to say how good it is to hear it again after some 45 years, damn. I wonder if FZ envied these guys.
I don't know if Zappa would have been envious of Henry Cow but I'm certain he would have liked their music. I rarely ever heard him being envious of other artists, with the possible exception of Allan Holdsworth. I do know he was into Gentle Giant, as I saw an interview where he mentioned them. He seemed to be a hard to please guy when it came for music, but he did like those artists that weren't known in the mainstream. So, it's no surprise if he didn't praise the likes of the Rolling Stones. He wasn't fond of fad-driven musical trends either, he often made fun of punk and new wave in his music. I imagine Henry Cow would be up his alley, as well as many other Rock in Opposition (RIO) groups. I always thought "The Eric Dolphy Memorial Barbecue" from Weasel Ripped My Flesh was a blueprint for RIO. Difficult time signatures, complex wind instrument arrangements, hardly anything conforming to rock tradition (or jazz), and most of all not accessible (where the standard Stones fan would likely hate it),

there is no thing greater in this world than to have such magnificent sounds to be constantly bombarded by advertisements an embarrassment to the uploader, a shame on the platform, and a blight on the experience not even 15 minutes in and 5 ads i am in disgust never more have i wanted to block each company advertised, and speak poorly of them with word of mouth, disney for one, which i will continue to defame and insult their horrific trash any chance i get, but every other product, banned and blacklisted, blocked, and mentally filed in disrepute. the artists should learn how to sue this platform, for debasing their artform to a commercial sh!tstye and the suits and ties ought to be embarrassed and then stripped down and publicly tar and feathered
