Say what you will about electric versus gas propulsion, but we think it's pretty cool that both of these extremely diverse SUVs are American-made. Read our Model Y review (edmu.in/321uLL3) and our Trackhawk review (edmu.in/3iPVNMa).
Edmunds - problem is ICE Vehicles are Already DEAD.
@@markplott4820 Problem is your battery is dead, go charge it, your brain is all fubar. Sleep well, and see you in the morning, while I go fill up my tank in 15min.
@Emunds
9:10 Your weather excuse is laughable.
9:05 Those spec's tell it all. 0 to 60 is not a distance, it's a measurement of speed, therefore one or the other could be winning to a distance where both are near 60mph, one just took a longer distance to get going due to torque but hp came in and caused it to pass the other on its way to 60mph, but both hit 60mph at the same time. Once one got past the other the time to distance of a 1/4 mile was made up for because of that increased speed. This car I'm describing, is clearly the Tesla. What gives it all away, is the trap speed. A higher trap, means its a faster car in a roll race. Clearly the Tesla is the faster car in a roll race, and in a side by side.... but not a time to mph, or time to distance. I hope that makes sense. All scientific, I know.
There is four metrics on how fast a car is, 0 to 60, 1/4mile time, roll race, and side by side from a stop. I bet you didn't know that.
End Result: The Tesla is faster, has 100hp more than estimated, and Tesla is a liar. Read more of my evaluation further below.
We have a paradigm shift to EV and cleaner energy, but your comment is about where they’re made?
Copper Key Racing where are you planning to go at night?
race starts at 4:06
if time is important to you, jump to the 4 minute mark and save yourself some time

He jumped so bad on that 2nd run. But it wouldn't have changed the outcome.
You guys need to take a lesson from carwow on drag race vids
Those clowns race in the rain half the time, so they're not much better.
No helmets too
Well, they are pretty trash too lol.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH they live in the uk
I couldn’t agree more!!!
surprised that the Tesla pulled the Jeep at higher speeds.
You've seen nothing yet Dan. This is Tesla's world and everyone's paying rent.
It may have 100 less whp but the Tesla is 1000lbs lighter, has a much better drag coefficient and has better "gearing" You can see the Jeep slow down on every shift. They are within 3 tenths of a second though
Jeep just weighs too much to be impressive past like 250ft
@CivilDefenseLLC That too but not starving for air. Forced induction makes up for that with only 5% power loss at that elevation
@@JOutterbridge doesn't matter the shifting doesn't matter either its comparing a electric suv to a gas suv tesla are slower in low battery but so if it was low the track hawk would've won
Hey Edmund’s your presenters seem like very nice people but if you want people to consider you as an authority in the automotive world you need to have presenters that come across like car people. They seem like the average joe who read the brochure. Your presenters come across as amateurs and it’s hard to take them seriously, especially when compared against the likes of Top Gear and Motortrend.
I disagree. Nice to have testers who are normal people. Makes them more credible.
Dan Grassetti how are people who don’t seem knowledgeable more credible
I also disagree. I have been following Edmunds for nearly 30years! They are the authority in my book. Right next to Consumer Reports Cars, NADA, Kelly Blue Blook, etc. They don't just talk cars, they talk which cars are best to actually buy, and which are not. So, if you're looking for the best drivers and actors, look elsewhere. If you are looking for the best people that ACT like they know what they are talking about, you might want to stick to fake shows like Top Gear. If you are looking for the best drivers, then Car&Driver. Motortrend might be the best balance for someone like you. For me, Edmunds is the authority, but not the most fun, just facts for when buying a car. My favorite is that they have all the specs for all the cars, at your fingertips, on their website. No one else does. NO ONE. Their online reviews and comparisons are very good, also.
Copper Key Racing I am talking about these two presenters in particular. Not other presenters they have or their website. I follow Edmund’s as well and I found these two to fall way short of the rest, even amongst their colleagues.
I agree and disagree; it's good to have a variety of experience because it shows how easy/difficult a specific vehicle is to launch. They also tend to value things that perhaps auto-buffs would ignore (e.g. how easy a car is to park or the number of cupholders). That said, for this test it would've been nice to have someone like jonny lieberman
I don' think she used the Jeeps launch control correctly!
Considering from what I've seen at the track from the Jeep and the published numbers of people with the Tesla it seems pretty bang on. The Tesla is always going to be just a little faster unless you start modding the Jeep. But judging by the bog they put into the Tesla I'm sure they're going to have an over air update coming out at some point that'll probably knock a half second off the zero to 60 per usual for Tesla.
Woman can't drive 😂

Yep, it's a 3 min video, tops.
freEvo8 ad blocker is even better......
I was hoping to see this comparison. Just last month I sold my 2018 Trackhawk and bought a Model Y performance. The Y is slower off the line, even without launch control. Once you get rolling though, it's lights out. I miss the visceral experience of a great American V8. I don't miss worrying about the set up when you're ready to stop-light race. Just mash the pedal and GO! I'm really hoping the Y gets a track-mode offered like the Model 3 did.
Congrats and enjoy the maintenance free experience of the Tesla.
I think the Tesla Model Y is being held back...But in a few months im hoping for an update to give us that extra push
Yes model y is getting track mode.- per elon on Twitter
Yeah, you notice taking turns and flooring it vs flooring it on a straight line? I've been meaning to test turning off traction control
I've got a feeling there's going to be an over air update that's going to remove that bog eventually. I think they left it in there as kind of a way of making you the test monkey to see if the hardware will handle it. If enough Tesla's are still on the road in a year expect that over air update.
Edmunds need to find good drivers for these type of videos. These guys suck, they cant even take off at the same time on count down ???? Come on man !
and the jokes are so corny
Jeep got roasted! Like Kevin Hart roasts his friends.
that jeep is as aerodynamic as a couch
Did he just said 7000 Hp? @2:58
Yup... he’s useless. The whole test is pointless
Yep. 😂
He meant 700, don't flip out over a mispronunciation...
Wow the Tesla is really impressive! I didn't think it would win the high speed rolling race but It did easily.
What is your elevation
Was not expecting the Jeep to be the stud early and the Tesla to have the top end
Any way you race them, the Jeep was second best, at $30k more.....
The guy was like : this is a 7000 hp
The girl was like : I think it's weighs twice more than a Tesla

7000 horsepower! Now that’s a lotta power.
I still won't trade my trackhawk for a quarter mile electric go cart.
You need to put Randy Pobst behind the wheel of that big Jeep.
Model X?
Pretty cool ... I imagine this is more realistic to what you get at stop lights versus pros on track. As a Tesla owner, I can concur that the Jeep will definitely gain legs past the quarter mile, and that V8 sounds so amazing (though completely quiet and no shifting is a pretty cool party trick too)
My new car beating my previous car... Enjoyed my Jeep but loving my Model Y. Great video!
I own a track hawk and to see an electric 5 seater suv blow it’s doors off is truly impressive!
$93k? Sounds like the model X should’ve been the comparison
It would have been an even worse A- whoopin’
cantbsdave exactly! I hate how all the car reviewers try to make Tesla look bad by choosing way less expensive model, the worst is whenever a new EV comes out “Tesla killer” yea it’s double the price. It’s like yes this 160k Porsche is “better” than a 80k Tesla... where did they learn math and comparisons

Jeep already costs $30,000 more. No excuses. Tesla 🇺🇸 beats Jeep 🇳🇱 (Stellantis)
How are you calculating those prices? That Model Y performance in red is $61,990
probably has FSD, which is irrelevant to a drag race but answers your question.
I ordered the model y performance. It was $61,990 after I chose the Metallic Silver color and white interior . After Taxes it was almost 69,000$ . Tax is pretty expensive in California
@@dhunduptsering5901 For what you receive.
The value is incredible
White Fox yes I agree ! That’s why I ordered it. I love Tesla ! I have the model 3 as well. So I have no regrets at all 😆😆😆
Although the Model Y won, it seems that the Model X is closer to the Trackhawk in size and price.
Then the TrakHawk loses even worse.
Love the helmets.. LOL
Helmets are required for any vehicle that's going to do less than 12 seconds quarter mile in most places. It's probably a stipulation of their insurance.
The temperature and the charge level would also affect the Tesla’s performance. Maybe altitude and temperature affects the track hawk more? How much range did the Tesla lose after each run be trackhawk? Though the Tesla is the performance bargain.
Electric cars don't lose range under performance anymore than Gas cars. Gas cars also lose range with temperature and altitude. Electric cars will eventually lose performance with temperature if you beat on them long enough - but that won't save you at the drag strip. Altitude is irrelevant to electric cars.
2:57 he clearly knows a lot about cars 😂
😂😂😂😂 7000 hp 🤨😱
I think the humor wasn't very humorous, but a great video nonetheless.
Do track hawk and x6m
What color was the keyfob used to start the hellcat? Black or Red? Black=500 horsepower, Red=707 horsepower...
Needed some go pros to hear the exhaust and electric motor to make it less quiet. To boring with just cabin cams
Correction go pros mounted on the outside of the cars
my plan was next year for big birthday buy Trackhawk...but seems i´ve changed my opininon !
Imagine getting smocked by a car that doesn’t even have smoke
Excellent
Looks like you guys grabbed two random people out of the office that know nothing about cars and said race each other🤣.
Trackhawk $89k requires gas, tune ups, valve adjustments, timing chain, water pump, oil changes etc......
Model Y P $61k (and none of the above required and you have $28,000 remaining)
They were close in performance but the trackhawk cost $25K more plus higher maintenance and fuel costs. Not a very good proposition. There are EV hacks that can produce exhaust and engine noise for popular engines if that's the only reason you are spending the extra $25K... for the noise.
Would be cool if you could talk about their as raced prices, but also cost of refueling/charging after the races
Keep it up guys 👍

A comparison with Tesla Model X would have been more appropriate. Both weight and price of Model X are closer to the Jeep Trackhawk.
You heard "go". You go. How hard can it be?
Please when will a car channel be dedicated to half mile races?🤔
Ah, got to change convention to give ICE a chance. Don't worry by the time that happens BEVs will be winning those too.
Because these are real-world races. Who the hell racist for a half mile other than some asshole on the freeway cutting everyone off.
The thing is, you can punch an EV all day and nobody knows. Mash the trackhawk pedal and everyone in a 1/4 range hears it.
License, registration and proof of insurance. 👮
according to other reviews 0-60 is the same for both, but Jeep passes quarter a little bit faster. What result should I believe? www.carscoops.com/2020/03/check-out-how-fast-the-tesla-model-y-performance-does-the-0-60-mph-and-1-4-mile/ 11.9 vs www.zeroto60times.com/vehicle-make/jeep-0-60-mph-times/ 11.8 (some say 11.6 www.carscoops.com/2020/07/jeep-grand-cherokee-trackhawk-drag-races-lamborghini-urus-for-the-fastest-super-suv-crown/).
Because of the torque vectoring on the y it Puts as much usable power to the ground at all times. Doesnt squak the tires. It just goes and repeats.
@@peteonster bad explanation. Same conditions, same cars, different result. What could ANY technology change here if the comparison is apple to apple?
i think it depends the driver if someone knew how to launch the jeep different story
You right because it's suppose to be in track mode not sport and the transbrake keeps its position at a certain rpm
WOW! The TrackHawk can brake at 109 lbs! Impressive! ;)
Why do people keep doing this we all know nothing beats electric vehicles off the line cause peak power instantly it's apple to oranges
Because people keep watching them. Hah. But yeah, I do agree. It's gotten quite old. Obviously, there is a LOT more to a vehicle than a party trick. Especially for an EV buyer.
The Trackhawk beat the Tesla odd the line in the first race. The Tesla still passed it.
Honestly the track hawk did slightly better for the first car length then started to fall off only after it shifted. The Y started pulling ahead way later then expected and didn’t fall off. Not the typical ice v Tesla pattern.
Gary Bleck I think that has to do with aero. The Trackhawk is not very aerodynamic so it loses acceleration at higher speeds. Same result in the roll race. Aero is more important than a lot of people think. Tesla cars are very aero-efficient.
Because they think that keeps getting V8 Lovers change to electric cars. With no emotion while driving, they have to make it up in better performance. Thats why these comparsions will never stop lol
The Tesla all the way. Lol
Okay. Impressive Tesla. But nothing beats the Supercharger whine 🦅
She is correct in that Tesla’s are quick in the 1/4 mile but anything further than that they run out of legs.
Yah teslas are super useless on a daily basis
"Tesla's run out of legs".... umm... ok genius. Try again when you get your head out of your a**.
It’s real world usage. No point in having 700 HP for use on regular streets.
Yea this a misconception lol but people always gotta learn the hardway
Like 1/2 mile races, 1 mile races or say the Ring’(12 ish miles)? People race model 3’s on the track and a model 3 set the pike peak race about two weeks ago. Oh and the Taycan overheats too, about 1.5 laps into the ring. Don’t hv the link but it apparently run out of legs too.... edit: added “?” So it makes sense
“7000 horsepower or something like that”
Has anybody else noticed that the Tesla is only "quick" on the strip and there are no comparisons on a actual track.?
skuzzle butt No, because that’s not true. Do you actually think 5000 pound Jeep would be faster.... on a track. 😂 it has the huge additional disadvantage of the giant motor sitting over the wheels and up high... *perfect for flipping the car over* which is what gas SUV’s are notorious for.
There are a lot of track times posted for the Model 3/Y...and they're pretty good times.
It would make for hilarious video of the Jeep rolling over off the track somewhere.
Throttle house did the same race and somehow the Trackhawk won
Competent drivers who understand how to launch them makes a difference. This was amateur hour at best (and they did not use the torque reserve system to launch the trackhawk). Thankfully their website is a disaster now so it’s easy to completely dismiss edmunds.
#environment?
What was the state of charge on the model Y?
Also don't forget that the track hawk overheats on the track and the model Y wont
That’s the dumbest thing I have ever heard. The trackhawk has an air chiller which cools the motor and it won’t ever heat soak. The model Y will cause batteries. You sir win the dumbest comment of the year so far 😂😂
@@allenx71 back when it came out i watched a video on youtube of a black trackhawk vs a red model X, while idling in the drag strip line it overheated and refused to go into launch mode because of it. Model S and X overheat on actual tracks but the 3 and Y do not
larry Spiller send me this video I don’t believe it. Because this vehicle was engineered with tech from the demon and it can handle 5000 launches with no issue. They obviously modified something.
WOW
I did not see that coming!
It’s hard to wrap your head around the jeep Trailhawk losing against a Tesla model Y.
Considering the 2020 jeep trailhawk is a AWD hellcat powered SUV.
How about the latest 2020 Corvette stingray.
Just for added measure throwing in a Porsche Cayman S.
its a trackhawk
I feel like she didn't even use launch control 🙄
This should have been a fun and interesting comparison but instead it was boring and cringe worthy. These testers lack performance driving skills, the commentary was insipid and juvenile and their 'enthusiasm' felt contrived. Sadly disappointing.
I thought it was real, and fun to listen to in a lighthearted way.
And I'm usually so hard to please! (Honestly) Go figure, right?
Race the Y against the Hennessy
I'm rooting for the model Y, but honestly the rolling race wasn't even fair since the driver of the Jeep didn't keep the revs high. It had to downshift when the driver floored the pedal ... Facepalm
Would like to see what happens when you make Y the same weight as TH
4:00 for actual race
Factor in the 1000 pound difference the jeep did rather well factor in the demon or hellcat challenger and see how the race will end up
I’m still taking the Trackhawk 🧐🥃
The Tesla already did. lol

Hey, Edmunds - you must have forgotten to route the exhaust pipe back to the cabin. Wanna redo this then?
Nice
race a stinger
Hold on, i need to recharge and theres a brownout.
That's ok Ive got solar on the roof with a couple of power walls. The bad news is every single gas station in the world uses electric gas pumps to get fuel out of the underground tanks.
Yeah my friend has a trackhawk and around town he only gets around 200 mi or so of range and on the freeway it's slightly over 300 before the light comes on so technically speaking the Tesla has more range. That's the big downside to big power gas motors they end up getting 11 MPG.
@@brdavis not sure how easy it is to fill up a tesla.
@@nobody617 pretty easily actually. For 200 miles of range (which is what the trackhawk gets) it takes about 30 minutes on a Tesla charger. But like filling up a car if you just want to do say, a hundred miles, you can pull that off in like 10 to 15 minutes. In the trackhawk that would be the equivalent of 20 bucks in gas which would be about 10 minutes at a gas station anyway. My wife has a plug in hybrid and she basically just plugs it in when she comes home and unplugs it in when she leaves for work and almost never puts gas in it. In fact the car has forced her to use up the old gas a few times just so it wouldn't get stale.
I bet even in a brown out some how the Tesla chargers will work. 😂❤
Do this again in the snow

I wish people would quit saying the model 3 and the model Y are luxury. Elon himself has said multiple times they are premium but not luxury.

7000hp he said, and Trackhawk weighs twice as much as the Tesla, both so wrong, both have no clue of how to race each other?
Y performance vs Durango hellcat
Model Y performance is 62k with red paint. not 68k as the video is promoting. So yeah, trackhawk cost 50% more than the Y, Yikes.
Super painful watching amateurs try and race two power house cars.
If she get her take off right that trackhawk all the way moper gang 💯
Hearing professionals saying....."like"...."I mean"....., never gets old.
Just let Matt Watson and Yianni do the drag races.
'Same results and same *itching from ICE bags.
2nd race, Tesla jumped the start.
But the outcome was only changed by a car length, which predictably still shows the Tesla was faster.
Gas cars often walk electric cars at the top end. (Which is pretty useless on the street) Generally speaking, electric's day has come, and gas power has run it's course. Electric sports cars are easier to drive fast, have a longer, flatter torque curve that starts 100% at 0 rpm, and there's no shifting of gears to slow you down.
But until batteries get a whole lot better, you won't see all-electric endurance racing, like the Indy 500, 24 Hours of Lemans, Baja 1000, etc. Gasoline (or gas hybrids) still rule endurance racing for now.
Lastly, lets see the Jeep race the Tesla across the desert floor there...that'd be funny!
*Two Model 3 mr's
*700hp 690tq Viper GTS, all natural
*fleet of trucks
I still get the hawk
Veyron, Pagani, Koenigseg
Fun fact when you drive the Jeep it’s actually significantly faster than the Tesla
Technically these 2 dont compete. Price and performance would put the fiat against a model x.
Urus!
What's funny is that Throttle House did a race and the Trackhawk (and Durango) dusted the Urus. The Model Y is quick, but Tesla needs to update the design already.
