DragTimes hey sir, I was wondering if u could maybe help me with something. Yesterday I put new 21” vorsteiner wheels on my car 20 Model 3 long range AWD.. I was driving home and all of the sudden, at 40mph and above, my traction control light came on and my regen braking was like pulsating when I was slowing or stopping..
I went in and changed the wheel size (the biggest option was 20” wheel).
I don’t know what’s wrong. My friend had them on his car before and they worked fine. Vorsteiner employees have no idea why it’s doing that either, they sell all kinds of wheels and have never had a problem.

I’ve never seen such high HP for the Model 3; the Avg from other “experts” ranges from 473 to 490. Is your number at the motor shaft? The axle? The wheel? I suspect it’s at the motor shaft, and if you account for driveline losses by multiplying by the traditional 80 percent, the result is 463; multiplying by 83 percent will yield 480. I don’t doubt your numbers; numbers don’t lie! I just wonder where the discrepancy is? And 623 HP for the Model Y! Holy moly!

  • @chrisgeorge1337
    @chrisgeorge1337 Před 4 lety +3

Great that you finally purchased SMT. A brand new LR battery pack has between 77 and 78kWh irrespective if M3 or MY. it normaly loses 1kWh after the first 500miles. Your M3 has experienced already a steep degradation of 5kWh over only 11kmiles. But that is just the calculation of the BMS that can vary with time. Think about charging more often to 90% to potentially regain some of the lost capacity. I still have 76.8kWh on my M3 LR after one year and 18kmiles.

Thanks, interesting stuff. From the roll race, it looks like the extra power of the Y offsets the extra weight and drag pretty neatly - the M3P's advantage is all in that first few yards. If they really are the same motors (which would make sense from an economies of scale perspective) it would be great if they would give/sell a software update unlocking the extra on the M3P. I would buy that for my M3P.
A few people are saying that the M3P brakes aren't great for repeated stops - are you interested in the brake side of the performance package or sticking strictly to dragtime enhancements?

The M3 and MY both limit acceleration to a fixed G value, so its likely the exact same powertrain and programming, but to accelerate the heavier MYP to the same G limit requires more power. We need the real world important numbers. 0-60 are cool but don't mean much for real world since in town you don't do max speed acceleration 99% of the time. 50mph roll for highway passing, 60mph roll for highway and freeway passing, and 70mph roll for Freeway passing is what's important as passing in a 2 lane matters more. So put a Model 3 Performance up against a M3, RS5 since we don't get the RS4 in the states, C63 AMG and such. 50 and 60 roll is more important then 70 as those are multi lane freeways.

I think you're underestimating the role of aerodynamic forces as you go faster. Aero is MUCH more important for high-speeds than mass is.
That's why the Y pulls nearly as hard as the 3 at the top end.

To determine the battery size of each car: (Method used by Bjørn Nyland)
    1. Charge both the M3 and the MY to 100%. Drive at constant speed on freeway up to 5%.
    2. Using Google map and GPS location you can have a good measure of the distance, more precise than the car odometer.
    3. Charger again each car to 100% and using a WattMetter read how much power was needed to got back to 100%.
    4. The power you read on the wattMeter will include also the losses from the AC to DC converter inside the car.
You can estimate about 5 to 10% of losses, so deduct 5 to 10% and calculate the result for each car.
    5. Now you have an estimate for 95% of battery capacity. To get the total value then multiply by 105%
    6. Using the power used and the distance you can have a good estimate of the consumption
in Wh/Mile or Km and compare with the values given by Scan My Tesla
Note: The battery size is in fact the battery available, there is always a top and bottom buffer to protect the battery.
