Glad you mentioned having pistol optics on rifles. I got a Holosun 509t for my pistol and I quite disliked it for many of the reasons you described (except that it's closed emitter). However after taking it off my pistol and slapping it on my rifle, I love the thing. The consistant positioning of the face negates any difficulty acquiring the dot. And its truly life changing to have a 2-4oz optic+mount on top of your pencil barreled AR.
I'm with you all the way. And I don't really notice any sort of performance difference between the RMR and a more traditional rifle option, personally.
Think it's kinda like the ACOG of pistol dots - great if you have it, but there are much cheaper options available now that do the same job that are also often better in at least some aspect.
You know what I got that riton prd2 on my 17 and I actually like it better than my rmr. The site picture is much more clear 40k hours of battery life so far it's stood up to some punishment and harsh weather. I'm honestly thinking of switching out the rmr on my other pistol.
I think the RMR is a bit dated. I still went with it for my 45c though just because I've never been let down by the RMR in the past. So when I got my slide milled, the RMR fills that space. I've been eying the 507C-GR-X2 though. That green Vulcan reticle is nice, after I got to play around with one the other day. I do wish Trijicon updates the RMR. Side battery tray would be nice for starters. I personally don't mind open emitter though. This is for an concealed EDC after all and my 45c isn't much of a "compact" despite its name lol. I don't consider the RMR to be top dog anymore though. But it's still a tried & true option, if albeit a little long in hte tooth and over priced now given what the competition offers.
Switch to a Holosun EPS because of dust and shirt lint filling my optic and blocking the emmitter . Enclosed optics are the future and Trijicon refuses to catch up to everyone else making them
I've just recently wasted money on another Holosun for the RMSc cut, only to turn around a month later and order a whole new slide and setup for an RMRcc. Maybe it's subconscious snobbery but I just don't feel like the Holosun pistol dots work well *for me*.
Yes but only because of its' open design. Close it up and it's back to being top tier. There's a few other things they could do but that's the main thing. It's like the Holosun 510 - great optic just needed to be closed up.
@@thegunpenguin the issue is price. Holosun 510 is great for quality, solar, green emitter and most importantly price. How much do we have to pay for better glass is the question.
@@XxxAtlantaxxX Many of the cheaper competitors have superior glass. Yes, they're made overseas, but very little optics glass is produced domestically. Trijicon buys from a supplier like everyone else, and has a tendency to rest on their laurels. It doesn't mean that the RMR isn't excellent, but it could be better. From a business perspective, as well as it sells, I can't fault them for leaving it as it is, but I'd like to see some innovation.
@@thegunpenguin Holosun made me ditch the American Made only mindset. I'm not spending more money if I don't have to. American companies need to be more competitive and maybe I'll be go USA all day. But that's another video for you to make.. 👍
@@XxxAtlantaxxXholosun rubbed me the wrong way with their terrible warranty. You definitely get what you pay for. I'll stick with trijicon, eotech and aimpoint.
I've personally found dots to be very useful, but perhaps not the earth-shattering game changer folks claim them to be. But you may have a different experience! All that to say, don't feel too left out.
I stick with Eotech and Trijicon because they work and are American made. I absolutely refuse to spend my cash with a company that's based in a country that would happily watch America burn. It's been my experience also that Trijicons are also near bullet proof.
There's other reasons i can understand going with the RMR, but reliability certainly isn't one of them. Not sure if i just have bad luck but I've had 3 separate units fail. Trijicon has fantastic warranty service but after the 3rd I just gave up on it.
@@XxxAtlantaxxX Oh I don't think that it's a shitty unreliable optic, I just think people (like almost anything in the gun community) have this absolute rabid, unreasonable emotional connection with gear choices. It makes sense cause this is a pretty expensive hobby and we're putting a lot of faith in these working to potentially save our lives. All I'm saying is that people choosing the RMR over a holosun, Aimpoint, SRO or any other decent quality red dot purely for reliability sake is absolute nonsense and there's plenty of data to back that up at this point. Until trijicon decides to actually start innovating, I can't think of any rational reason why anyone would sit down today and order a brand new RMR over pretty much any other red dot. Although I don't think any of the new dots coming out justify getting rid it if you already have one on your ccw gun or if you get an awesome deal on a used one.
Durability is never dated. Sage Dynamics dropped his RMR 40 times from shoulder height onto concrete. The RMR never failed. Name another red dot that can withstand that abuse.
I believe that sane did the same test on holosun and came back with. the same results, which is a good thing however unless you have spaghetti weak limbs or just stupid clumsy then I don't believe that dropping your gun that many times in a day is reality!
Holosun has surpassed the RMR in durability and features at this point. The 508T ,509T and EPS are just better optics . Side loading battery, titanium housing on the Ts, enclosed emmitter , 3 reticle options and around $150-200 cheaper. Never had a Holosun fail either
In 2023 the RMR is a dated design. It’s relied on durability as its calling card. Now that’s others are cheaper and have a better feature set, it’s difficult to recommend.
I will always have a RMR on one of my pistols, mostly because I rounded out the screws and can't take it off now.
