    Used an ACOG for 18 months in Afghanistan long engagements to CQB in caves and buildings. Would bet my life on one any day they always work.

    Underrated only by shooters who do not understand the concept. I am a CMP-USAMU Military Rifle Instructor assisting the USAMU deliver SDM Training and my experience with that says there is no quicker means to a ranging and bullet drop compensation function which delivers an exacting recognition for where the rifle is pointed. The eye relief is not an issue, in fact the short eye relief supports a parallax free condition at distance. Bottom line is combined with Mk262 a good shooter who knows how to counter wind can hold to an MOA at 600 meters from a rack grade M4/M16A4 and that’s what it is all about. Also, today’s LPVOs generally have reticles which require considerable time to get a sight picture which is understood to be consistent simply because all the hash markings preclude the brain from needed concentration on a point to point reticle to target relationship.

    Issued an ACOG for both my Iraq and Afghan deployments. I agree with that Marine General who said the ACOG is one of the most important inventions for the average Infantry Rifleman, made my job a breeze and qual was also super easy. Never had to worry about zero and that aluminum body is tougher than it looks!

    The TA31 is a beast! you can burn it, shoot it, freeze it... It will keep on working. To give it a battery illumination just like the TA02 (instead of taping chemlights to it) just attach the REM ACOG (Reticle Enhancement Module). It has 11 brightness settings so it works in all light conditions. It covers half of the fiber optic so it reduces the Reticle Bloom in bright sunlight. It is made of the same 30% glass filled Polymer as AR pistol grips. It is a really great upgrade to the TA31. Oh... It eliminates the need to replace a dead or dim tritium because you just turn the power to #1 and you have the soft glow for night time aiming.

      Agreed for the TA31. Only bought it for an M16A4 build. Now my TA11 was for an alternative to an LPVO

    A rifle is setup around a philosophy/purpose, based on your environment and the likely application.
    For a SHTF scenario, I would place my bets on an optic that does not give battery anxiety, is built like a tank and allows capability to distance. Coupled with the offset, its a fast switch setup without you breaking cheek or grip (in case of an lpvo zoom change).

    I see myself getting one next year. I’m considering getting an extra complete lower from aero, first though.

    Buddy of mine has one sitting in his garage for the last few years. He's never mounted it on a weapon. I ask how much he'd take for it, and he just chuckles. It is killing me, and I'm not one to be envious very much. I looked through it and nearly wet myself with the clarity of the glass and the field of view.
    Seething without coping.

    since one year i got the 4x32 LED Version, and to be honest, i can't understand that debate about the eye reliefe. i can still get to the perfect eye relief with a natural aiming posision. the eybox is pretty damm good. can't see any scope shadow, even if i try. i had also a vortex HD Gen II 1-6 bevor and gave it back.

      Yeah, if you have eye troubles this is definitely a try-before-you-buy optic. If it works for you, it's one of the best options around, but if it doesn't, it's nearly unusable.

    Regular scopes are far older than an ACOG.
    It’s getting annoying that people keep saying it’s old.

      I think he means in contrast to LPVOs and modern red dots plus magnifiers.

  • @comradesoupbeans4437
    @comradesoupbeans4437 Před rokem +1

    I think a better comparison would be a red dot + 4x magnifier, and that's one i have a much harder time making a definitive call on (though they will tend to be cheaper than an ACOG and dot). LPVOs are, in my opinion, better suited for people who are pushing past 300m which is the realistic limit of 3-4x magnification (for engagement, identification needs more), at which point i think they pull far ahead of a fixed magnification optic.
    As for some of your other points, cost wise an ACOG + Dot is about the same price as one of Primary Arms top line LPVOs which are very good and actually weigh less than your total setup (might be about the same depending on the exact mount) but for those similar costs of weight and money you get 1-8x with very good clarity and a good 1x eyebox. (and some of the better designed reticle options out there, but you said you don't use them which makes sense if you never go past ~300)
    Some LPVOs are definitely heavier and more costly for the quality, but there are options out there that are similar in terms of overall value. I think it really comes down to what you want to use it for.
    Overall liked the video, as usual!

  • @LKaramazov
    @LKaramazov Před rokem +2

    To me 3or 4x don’t provide enough magnification to justify having a 1x for CQB, if that makes any sense. I have a 3x prism on my .308 and I can’t see 150 yards to make a precision shot, but I can see hit a larger target within that distance easily. I need to put an LPVO on that thing.

    • @charlesludwig9173
      @charlesludwig9173 Před rokem

      The short eye relief assures a parallax free condition, or an almost parallax free condition. This is very important when shooting at mid range. If the shooter gets into position as he would when using the detachable carry handle sight a properly placed stockweld is assured too. In other words, the eye relief of the ACOG supports good shooting. It’s a truly awesome concept, magnification, bullet drop compensation, and ranging in one compact package.
