    • @rotor13
      @rotor13 Před 2 lety +24

      The problem with a flood car, even one thats been as well as this, is that they tend to have the absolute WORSE and untraceable issues to fix. Not only electrical connections, but the computers within the car itself short out or their joints corrode. And replacement parts for a new-ish car like this, are EXPENSIVE.
      The owner was right in parting it out and then crushing it. He probably got a nice little insurance payoff as a total loss, and make a nice profit selling the GOOD parts. Things like fenders, doors, glass etc etc, especially original OEM parts are almost invaluable. Especially the drivetrain

      I kid you not about a year ago I was down by a pretty much obscure river, a tinted suburban pulled up to the gravel path (keep in mind I’m fishing at the time) they were middle aged well kept men with black boxes with shells kept in foam inserts and they used those hand crank spiral hole digging tools and dropped some of the shells into the holes and some of them were thrown in the water and scattered across the sand/gravel/mud bank. They didint see me as I was tucked half into a hollow tree so I could lean on something. A few weeks later I was back down there and a film crew and a older man with sandals and a beard was describing how he located the shells and would extract them. Basically 99% sure half this stuff is made up.

    If it were mine I think I'd take, it strip it, replace the wiring harness, and turn it into a rally car. Easier said than done, but it's sad to see a nice car like that go to scrap.

      If there is a lean on it it's getting scrapped.

      You would need a lot more than just a wiring harness
      Definitely an engine swap would be needed

    What serious damage can a flood do to a car to make it unusable? I'm not a car person but I wanna know 😳

      Electronics. Modern cars run a lot of cables, computers, sensors, etc. everything sensible to corrosion and shorts caused by water in the wrong places. Often these cars could be “fixed” and would work for weeks, even months. But eventually problems will pop up. From small annoyances to potentially lethal issues. Since there are so many parts with potential issues everywhere, and some pretty weird, insurance companies won’t bother with them. Likewise, I don’t know if there are technicians or mechanics that would put a finger on one of those cars for similar reasons: the car becomes a bag of countless problems, extremely difficult to detect and fix.

    The owner did the right thing by parting it out. The whole interior could be sold along with suspension parts, rims, hood, doors etc. Basically, anything that’s not electronic or an engine part.

    There are many places with seashells far from the ocean. Areas that used to be under the sea. My buddy’s property in Kansas has a tall plateau that’s crazy cool and there are pieces of coral all over up there. Pretty neat
