    Love this. I learned about Tyvek in a Carol Nelson class, but learned some new things today. Thanks! I really appreciate your weekly posts. They are giving me ideas for experimenting and playing with my art instead of being in a blue funk about not being able to get out and be with friends as I normally would. My virtual friends like you are keeping me sane! 💕

    Just FYI, Tyvek is a synthetic plastic, made of olefin fibers, which is a hydrocarbon. So, just like paraffin wax, not a great idea to melt it. Makes cool patterns, though!

    • @SandraDuranWilson
      @SandraDuranWilson  Před 2 lety

      The goal is to heat it and not melt it. Good info and when I am not filming, I heat it outside. Thank you.

      @@SandraDuranWilson No worries, just confirming you knew it was a petroleum product. I’m sure anyone with sensitivities to chemicals would not be able to use this process. Certainly, I hope no one is doing this inside with no ventilation! Glad you checked it out beforehand. 👍💖

    • @SandraDuranWilson
      @SandraDuranWilson  Před 2 lety +1

      @@kimstelly9480 I agree. I have a science background and even tho I don't have sensitivities I am geeky about safety and materials. Anything that is small enough to be inhaled like pastel dust can be hazardous. The thing that really gets me is when I see adds or promotions of painters with paint all over their hands. The skin is the largest organ of your body and over time anything can make you sensitive to it. I always wear gloves or a barrier cream. Nice to meet you here Kim.

    It would be neat to try wrapping this around a shape like a stone and then heat it so it takes on that 3D shape! I think it would work!

    Great technique.Thank you! Have you ever tried adhering the tyvek to another paper product and then heating the tyvek side? I have some candy wrappers that do not bubble (or melt or do anything when heated) and just wondering if the tyvek bubbling would pull the other paper along with it. Will try on my own, the question then becomes what to use to adhere? Not sure if acrylic medium would work.

      Check out my newest video called Beyond Tyvek. It came out a few weeks ago. Subscribe so you will see when new ones arrive. I have many that will be coming up.
      I have a hunch that gluing that candy wrappers to the Tyvek may hamper the wrinkling. Check out the new video using chip bags and chocolate wrappers, and let me know how your experiment goes. Thanks for watching.

      You may find sheets of it on Etsy or Amazon. There are different types and you don't want the soft fabric like one. The USPS priority envelopes are Tyvek. You could start there.
