Happy birthday, books, flowers and cake, is there a better way to spend the day 🧐😍. I too love to collect vintage books, I have all the Miss Read’s, some in great condition, some not so much! There’s nothing so exciting as stumbling across a vintage favourite that has been well cared for, especially if it’s on sale for a good price too!

this was so lovely to watch. It's so beautiful that you and your mom are so close and that she found you those gorgeous vintage editions she knew you'd like. i also request books for holidays and this year my mom gave me a new book for my birthday, my baptism day, valentines day, and st patrick's day! it's so nice. I also love to collect early editions of my favourite authors. I really love the old puffin classics, particularly the narnia ones with pauline baynes illustrations, and jrr tolkien and lucy maud montgomery. i agree- it is so special to find original copies of your favourite books.

I am in love with the Miss Read books, I stumbled on them quite by accident several years ago at my library and I’m thrilled I still have so many more to read. Enchanting cover on October October. It sounds a lovely book. You are so lucky to get the original Miss Read editions. I have some books that are precious to me, for example all my Chalet School hardbacks, but I have very few first editions. I have just found a lovely edition of I Capture the Castle, can't wait for it to arrive. I gave up with Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell and I think I gave it away. I added Jane's Country Year to my list from another of your vlogs, and hope to get the edition coming out in Jan 2022. Your birthday tea looked delicious - cakes from Betty's look very indulgent. I'm always very tempted to get Betty's fondant fancies by mail order but have so far resisted. :o)

Happy birthday!! I love getting books for my birthday, of course, but usually I receive Amazon gift cards-I love them and use them for books and CDs and DVDs. I don’t actively collect old editions of my favorite books but buy them when I see them at a good price. I treasure the books I read as a child and still open them and read them, even though some are not in good condition. ❤️

The Seasons exhibition was on at a gallery very near me - I thought I recognised the name. Unfortunately at that time we were still shielding because of covid-19 so couldn't have gone. The book does look beautiful.

I just found 3 original Daphne D. with the same look as the Angela Thirkell books, and I agree that there is just something about reading an older edition that cannot be replaced. Although the Angela Thirkell are great, too! (I have most of her books on my Kindle, but not in print.) I think I love the Thrush series a little more than the Fairacre (though both are so cozy and fun) and I have just 3 hardcovers from that series (and The World of Thrush Green book!) The Chiltern Classics are definitely on my list - I'm hoping to get Emma and Persuasion and maybe also A Christmas Carol.
