  • In today's video, I'm heading to one of my favourite London 'villages' - Hampstead in North West London. Hampstead is one of my favourite places to go book shopping, so I'm taking you along with me to show you where I go and what books I buy.

Your mentioning of Susan Branch brought a smile to my face. I find her books utterly charming and follow her blog.

Miranda thanks so much for taking me back to Hampstead. The front of the train station I remember well and those wonderful book stores. Definitely book reading weather here today. It's rained all night which is a blessing and is still drizzling now. I'm reading The Birdman's Wife by Melissa Ashley. Historical fiction, it's the story of Elizabeth Gould, wife of John Gould the famous ornithologist. Would highly recommend.

There's a particular charm to Hampstead tube isn't there? I used to use it everyday and still miss it a little! The Birdman's Wife sounds excellent - I'll add it to my list! xxx

Love the vlog style video! You are so lucky to have so many bookshops near you. I have to drive about 20 minutes to get to one. I find it shameful......anyhoo, YAY! I am so excited that you got a Susan Branch book! I love her too. I believe she has a brand new blog post today as well. Her blog just makes me smile......Have a lovely weekend!

Thank you! I am very lucky having so many bookshops near me. Yes, it was a really fun coincidence to spot a Susan Branch book I didn't have, after talking about them with you! I'll have to check out her blog. Enjoy your weekend too xxx

I really am enjoying all of your VLOG's. I take notes of things I may be interested in and then go research them. I too am fascinated with literature of the WWII era, I am reading one now titled "My Name is Eva" and I am really enjoying it. Susan Branch is also a favorite of mine and I am anxiously awaiting the release of her next book. Thank you Miranda for bringing sunshine to my day with your positive attitude and insight.

Loved this vlog! Enjoyed the snapshots of all the lovely bookshops and the cake shop you visited:) Daunt Books is definitely on my bucket list of places to visit!
Miss Austen sounds amazing, that Waterstones edition is beautiful.
I'm currently awaiting two books in the mail which I'm very excited to read.
The Woman in the Mirror by Rebecca James, which is gothic novel set in Cornwall that's been compared to Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier and The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, and The Mystery of Three Quarters by Sophie Hannah which is a brand new Hercule Poirot novel.

Thank you so much! I'm very glad you enjoyed this vlog. I've read The Turn of the Screw, but not the others you mention. The Rebecca comparison definitely intrigues me, and I've been meaning to try Hannah's Poirot books for a while, so will have to add those to my list. Thank for the recommendations! xxx

I've only managed to find one book by Dorothy Canfield, A Twig is Bent, and enjoyed it so am searching for more.
Pine sounds excellent...also have a passion for the Scottish Highlands!
The Lost Pianos of Siberia sounds like my wheelhouse as well. What a lovely channel discovery! Feel like I've found treasures. Thank you for a beautiful vlog. 😊

I preordered Miss Austen from Book Depository (as it’s not available in Canada yet) and it’s currently on its way to me now. Yay! I so enjoyed following along with your lovely book shop. ❤️

Would you do a video on your favorites of these “Austen spinoff” books? I’ve been rereading Austen and would love some extra reads to go along with it!

    • @MirandaMills
      @MirandaMills  Před 4 lety

To be honest I don't generally read that many spin-offs as I often don't think they're that great, but having said so, I do realise there are probably enough JA spin-offs I've read to make a video, so I'll definitely try to do one sometime soon!

I too love going to Daunt books when I am in London. However, I don’t think it’s possible to confine yourself to a single purchase!

This was lovely. Is it possible to have too many editions of Jane Austen's novels? I don't think so!

Lovely books! I just ordered my first Persephone (I’m in California) as a birthday gift for my mother (One Woman’s Year). I’d love a video on your book wishlist and titles you’re looking forward to.
