I went to town with Foundry. Dungeondract maps, sound, animation, automated rolling, spell and attack effects. Custom recorded dialog and sound bites, landing page, character journals, forgotten adventures tokens- the works.
Annnnd on my first intro 'session zero' my player insisted he wanted to go somewhere that wasn't prepped at all.
(He's a technophobe, and was trying to 'prove a point', just for the sake of it. No, obviously this set up is not as flexible as theatre of the mind, but during covid, this was pretty awesome to have).
Couple that with a few other players trying to run foundry on a potato, and it crushed my enthusiasm.
Audio is awesome. Even using fireplace, or shuffling behind a door. Foundry is just so good.
Couldn't agree more! Using it to give real time contextual clues to hidden things is one of the ways I'm most excited to use it!
Especially with the module that muffles sound behinds walls and doors (and lets you adjust such muffle for different thickness and material). That module with base sound abilities makes foundry really great, had a monster that was set to make a slithering sqelchy thump whenever the token moves (via sequencer module) and the players were sleeping in an inn when it came through the halls. So they just heard this muffled distant step now and then in the middle of the night, and as they got closer to the door, less and less muffled, was a great time!
That's SUPER cool!
NGL that's really cool
It is! There's so much juicy potential there to heighten tension and drama.
Some awesome ideas here. Using music/sounds is the easiest way to set the mood I've found.
I'm very excited to see what kind of interesting things I can do with sound.
Noice! I use Encounter+ on iPad and am looking forward to when they get a similar feature.
That's awesome application's of sounds. I've been trying to use audio more as it is very immersive. I'm also trying not to over use it, and reserve it for setting tone, like you did here.
As soon as one of my players heard the first audio effect, they wanted to hear sounds all the time :P
Awesome use of sounds. Where do you farm for your sound effects?
I used freesound for most of them, and then recorded some myself with audacity.
can you connect that audio bubbles to a token, and move it around freely? Sounds fun to do to a gibbering mouther..... Even better if you can save a default token for a monster with sound.... Make an orc sound like an orc peon from warcraft would be funny.
I just had a look and it doesn't seem as though you can connect sounds to a token directly, but there is a module which allows you to do it, which is the wonderful thing about foundry. There's almost always a module for it!
@@IcarusGames Thanks, Yeah me and the group have been debating what VTT to move to after we wrap up our last game in R20. Been so disappointed with R20 lately but you dont move VTT's mid campaign. It does look like foundry will be the one to go too, I run too many house rules and it seems like foundry has the most options to handle them. IE I need to reconstruct my homebrew psionocist class in the system and I dont think Fantasy grounds can handle it.
how would foundry work in person, as in my group plays together in person, we use minis, battle mats, dungeon tiles etc. But was thinking of doing a projector pointed down on the table to speed things up. So is there an option to show all of the players on the screen so it projects down on the table but not show the full dm controls? how would that work with line of sight, fog of war etc?
Hot seat module will let you do ths
I really like ambience sound, but finding good sounds are so hard
I always use freesound.org as a starting point!
Is there a way to make add a sound that only one player can hear? I mean all of them in the same area only the selected one can hear
I don't *think* so, but there could be a module which adds that functionality. That's one of the best things about foundry is there's almost always a module that does the thing you want.
it is really a cool feature. Unfortunately you have to upload those mp3s to use them in this way. So no adding ambient noises from CZcams Spotify or even Ghelfi Free sound modules
Yeah! There may be a module that lets you do it?
I've been using freesoud to find my ambient sounds for the most part.
@@IcarusGames This is a module called Bellows which does exactly what you said. Unfortunately it's removed from the official module list due to some weird CZcams copyright issue. However by spending sometime online you can find it pretty easily. And then use the url to install the module.
With Moullinette, it adds the BBC sound lists and more as a searchable archive within Moullinette's interface as normal, so you can get pretty much any sound with a search, the sounds are listed as like 300k or something stupid. So there is that too. Can also just download CZcams vids as MP3s if you don't wanna get Bellows or the easier to get Moulinette.
