I'm very impressed 👏 👌. I'm an electrician for over 20 years and there's not too many contractors who understands what to and not to do with wiring. Keep up the great work you're extremely informative 👍 👏 👌
Great channel. You show the "real deal" of renovating bathrooms. Excellent information, workmanship and no arrogance. Thanks for sharing your work with us.
Nice job. i couldnt do it better myself. Finally somebody talking about how BX is worse than knob and tube. Everybody makes a big deal about knob and tube when BX is the real danger. Good job on the video. Keep it up .
Never again will I mess with BX, 😆 way too time consuming. Thanks
Steve . You gotta be one of the very few who aren't working on "cookie cutter" Bathrooms. Man you get to work in some really nasty gutted bathrooms. Big stones man . Keep it up. Great work
😆 that’s because these kind of bathrooms are a lot tougher to do 😆 plus filming it all is a crazy amount footage and time to put together. But it’s important to document. This is why a bathroom like this would be $25-30k to do 👍
To add to that, I’m grateful for your work, I work in Pittsburgh and a lot of stuff on the internet is from other parts of the country where houses are newer. Here houses can easily be 100+ year old
Love your stuff man. You’re knowledgeable, friendly, and mindful. Watching you work is both satisfying and informative.
Thank you for sharing your skills with us.
Another great video. I just completed renovation of my bathroom and wanted to share a quick electrical lesson learned. During final building inspection to close my permit, the inspector informed me I failed because my shower light (same recessed LED that Steve uses) was not GFCI-protected. Apparently that requirement is specific to our city code (above and beyond NEC) and I had missed it in the fine print. Easy enough to wire the shower light and switch from the GFCI "Load" terminals to add the required GFCI protection, but much harder to run that new Romex once the drywall was finished. My mistake and I guess the light is safer now. Just make sure and check your code about that nuance.
That’s a great tip Brian 👍 that’s a bit overkill for an enclosed led like this to need gfi protection. But if it’s code, it’s code 👍 another option is to gfi protect the entire circuit with a gfi breaker. They are pricey, but would work with little effort in changing things in bath
Thanks 😊
GREAT work Steve!!!
Thanks
Excellent video
You are pretty good.
Knob and tube stopped being used in the late 30s-40s i think. Had it throughout my house.
If you’re unsure of what size box you need to meet code, you can find a box fill calculator online
I am not sure if I missed it, but why do you have two power(supply) wires for the box? Do you need two for that?
Really liked this video,GOD BLESS
I have a sub panel being fed w old circle wire 8x3 BX (not woven cloth) no separate ground…I know the sheathing acts as a ground but should I be concerned? It controls 3 bedrooms, bath and attic.
You won’t be able to properly isolate your ground. This is only a problem if you ever lose your neutral wire.. many old sub panels are this way.. it’s not correct but… to be code, it needs to have an isolated ground.. separate neutrals and separate grounds.
You actually got me to open a code book. BX can be considered a ground if it is a max of 6.. article 250. 118.. make sure the connections are tight. Lock nut etc.. good question by thee way.
@@krakenwoodfloorservicemcma5975 a max of 6 gauge? Looks like Circle Wire brand was used between 1935-55. Thanks for the info!
Is this your house? Looks like a flip
